As a series this is vastly under sung. Lumley is good but the support she gets from Nadine Gardner and John Bowe is fantastic. Richard Vernon is classic as Sir Horace and John Gaddas a good further support. Each episode has enough variety to be good stories in their own right and the support cast as visitors are excellent in their performances. It is sad that this series gets very little acclaim and even only minimal entries about it. I eventually found a copy of the series via a Canadian source. I strongly recommend this to anyone with a sense of humour who enjoys Joanna Lumley and the sort of humour which she can perform at her best.
The film explores the problems of getting old and forming relationships in a very real and touching manner with excellent performances by Joss Ackland and Jean Simmonds. It has a very good story line and a very happy ending that could teach all elderly people a lesson in remembering to enjoy life and that they are never too old to take risks.
Well worth seeing.
I also spotted it on German TV before the BBC on the same day - so truly considered international.
