Well done all round. Intelligent, well-paced script. Tim Daly does a fine portrayal of a "regular, All American boy" about to crack up. There's no overblown emoting, no crazy movements - simply a darkening mood his face steadily adopts. It's a winner on cable.
A sharp "slice of life" film that never meanders (unlike many), and is very charming. The plots/character arcs are not unexpected, but the way the writer twists the scenes upon themselves is TERRIFIC! Just saw it on Cinemax, and wound up watching the whole film in spite of myself. "Certain Guys" is a fine way to pass a Sunday afternoon.
The only way to watch this is drunk/stoned/something/anything. On that, just take a cue from Carrie Fisher, who reportedly doesn't even recall making the special (nor singing, tragically). But please, for your own protection, do not be sober, lest you fall into what should have been called "George Lucas's Infinite Jest".
