The pacing of this sequel is different from the original-it starts with a bang and doesn't let up. While I would've appreciated a bit more breathing room between the intense scenes, the fast pace wasn't excessive. For those who've seen the first movie, the overall experience is familiar, as the writing maintains a similar quality-just slightly above average.
What truly elevates this film is its outstanding camera work. The variety of shots, including close-ups, continuous takes, and 180-degree reversals, was a visual treat. The cinematography keeps you engaged and makes every scene feel dynamic and impactful.
However, the standout element of the movie is Naomi Scott's incredible performance. Where did this come from? Her portrayal is simply mesmerizing, showcasing an impressive range of emotions and an undeniable dedication to her craft. She brings both physicality and depth to her role, delivering a performance that left me in awe. If I still cared about the Oscars, I'd say she deserves a nomination without question.
In conclusion, this is an above-average horror sequel. The strong cinematography and Naomi Scott's phenomenal acting add an extra layer of quality, bumping up my score by 1-2 points. If you like the first one, Smile 2 is definitely worth a watch!
