  • Great casting & look but gets everything else wrong

The story in the games is far better than this story. The film flat-out isn't scary. It's not creepy. It just walks you from locale to locale and trots out monsters from the games, but doesn't at all deliver on the feel. And the entire ending is just terrible. Where was all the subtlety and downright horror of the games? It's been replaced with just gore and unnecessary CGI, such as the unnecessary bugs. Plus, apart from Cybil shooting one monster, no one fights back in the entire movie. Especially disappointing was Brookhaven Hospital, which could and should have been terrifying but turned out to be just another place. If they do make a sequel, let's hope someone else writes and directs it.

  • Come on, 10/10? Really?

Why can't people just be honest on this site? Why does everyone have to give it 10s to try to throw the average off? The movie had several pretty major flaws. The characters were really poorly thought out and the dialog went on forever with very little of the wit of Wes's prior films. There were some enjoyable moments but I'd never rate the movie any higher than a 6. The score wasn't nearly as strong as Wes's prior movies, and most of it was comprised of Portuguese acoustic versions of David Bowie songs which got pretty old after about the 17th. Owen Wilson also had a pretty poor Kentucky accent that didn't take long to get too annoying. Altogether a disappointing effort from a good director who has done better and will probably do better again.

  • Brilliant, hilarious and fearless

With liberal humor dominating television and print, it's a testament to the strength of the material that Dennis Miller was able to drop this bomb in the heighth of the anti-war protests it mocks. Drawing on his experience as the 10-year host of his Emmy-winning HBO show "Dennis Miller Live" and his frequent appearances on political and talk shows, Miller fashions an eloquent, insightful and dangerously edgy monologue as hilarious as it is brilliant. Miller's humor is very intelligent, but he speaks from a very common-man perspective, and it's about time someone thew back what the liberals were dishing out. Soon to be launching a political talk show on CNBC later this month, Dennis Miller is sure to be a fixture for common sense political humor for years to come.
