  • Still Better Than Most

Sure, The Simpsons may have lost a step over the years, but it is still better than 95% of the tripe that makes it to the airwaves. Want a viewing tip? - Look for Conan O'Brien's name in the beginning credits. If he is the producer, it will always be a superior episode. However, post-Conan shows don't suck either. I'll keep watching as long as they keep making them.

  • Let's Face It...

...sometimes this movie is truly a crapfest. There are times when I just want to look away, but I can't because it is so horrifyingly bad.

But there are too many high points to ignore: *ONJ could be reading the phone book and I'd be interested. She looks babetastic throughout. *ELO's soundtrack is outstanding. *The big band / Tubes scene is very cool. *The scene when the muses come to life is not bad either. *Xanadu is a great snapshot of post-punk/pre-Madonna culture. Creepy gender-neutral mods abound, especially in the fashion scene. And it was one of the first movies to reflect the influence of music videos. *And Gene Kelly. Sure, he sometimes looks like he just accidently stepped into the ladies room, but ONJ seemed more interested in him than that cheeseball Sonny guy, and who could blame her?

  • One Big Line

Sure, nobody watched this crapfest, but it must have been big with 12-year-olds. For some reason, my whole seventh grade class repeated the insipid line "Football, you bet" for one entire day. I later learned that it was used the night before on this miserable program. Sure, it was yanked after a very short run, but the producers can take comfort in knowing that one line had a huge impact on a bunch of pre-pubescent punks. Must have been a hell of a funny line - sorry I missed it!
