The one written and directed by todd stephens. There are a zillion films with the same name. What an odd, zany cast. Udo kier, linda evans, jen coolidge, michael urie. Pat is a retired hairdresser, and lives in a nursing home. So when an old client requests his services, he refuses at first. But the money was just too good! Of course, pat has no car, so he'll have to hitch and walk to get there. An adventure, just getting across town. Some good experiences, some not so good. Will he ever get there in time ? It's very well done! The story unfolds and we learn more and more about pat, his life, his relationships along the way. Really good! Written and directed by todd stephens. He also made gypsy 83, back in the day.
Trouble ... in sweden, it's strul. Con is installing a television in someone's house, when intruders break in to rob the joint. When the owner is murdered, the cops are sure he did it, and con is off to jail. But now, even the wife of the dead guy doesn't believe con did it. This is a remake of the 1988 version. Can he get the evidence to someone who can help clear him? It's all done with a bit of tongue in cheek. Some things are so over the top, they had to be done as a joke. Including the english language dubbing... gets pretty silly. Was the swedish language version that goofy ?? A whole lot of swearing. It's quite good, once you realize it's part comedy. I think the translation kind of interfered with my coming to realize how fun and silly the script is. Or maybe i'm just slow! Directed by jon holmberg.
1908. A greek island is currently under the control of turkey. Ben kingsley is pascali, who seems to have been lost in the bureaucracy. He has been quietly documenting foreign visitors to the island, but isn't sure where he stands any more. When mister bowles arrives on the island, and wants to study some ruins, pascali helps him get permission from the pasha. Pascali warns him several times to stick to the terms of the contract. There's a cloud of danger in the air already, as the ottoman empire is losing its hold on many of the cities it rules. Bowles is playing some game with the officials, and pascali is more involved than is good for him. What will happen to pascali as bowles gets more and more daring? Helen mirren is lydia, in a small role. It's predictable, but very well done ! Directed by james dearden. He was oscar nominated for fatal attraction. Novel by barry unsworth. His other novel was also made into the film "the reckoning".
