Wow! This is the most absurd, most contrived home makeover show concept ever! Honestly I don't think anyone can top this. The obviously faked rush, the obviously faked surprise.. Family intro videos are clearly recorded very meticulously by the production crew but we are supposed to believe they are just candid videos taken by the family? The charade of "we're not gonna make it" and then bam! Everything is ready and pristine once the family arrives.. Waaay over the top, extremely cringey antics of the host. Nothing makes sense. Even the team doesn't make sense. Of course the most ridiculous aspect is that "we've got 12 hours" nonsense just to make it exciting, which makes everything ridiculous.
I had fun watching the show. It was a welcome distraction despite the fact that the hacks were mostly BS. I mean more than half of the hacks the team came up with were either impractical or dysfunctional or downright dangerous. And the useful ones were mostly very pricey for regular folks. Still it was fun to watch interesting/weird solutions implemented and find some inspiration here and there. But if they make a new season, they should at least avoid hacks moving vertically (and oh my god moving slowly at that). Also, I should say it just hurts to see stools provided as dining chairs, come on team!
I love musicals and yet I stopped watching this show in Episode 2. I honestly don't know what kind of a mindset is required to find this show funny because for me it just plainly sucked. So much so that it didn't make me smile even once. And I love comedies. Moreover, the songs are bad too. As in unremarkable and extremely boring. Ironically, I empathized with the Keegan's character in hating the songs. Was that the point? I mean 1-2 boring songs to make this point would be understandable but what would be the idea in making all song sequences so boring to the point that makes the viewer go uurggggh. Uh to think that I was so looking forward to see this show. Stellar cast and production crew, doing a musical comedy series. But unfortunately it sucked more than a bad local theatre production.
