This movie was good on almost every level. It would stand on its own simply as a period piece. Acting, set decoration, locations, script, all top-notch. And... Not a bunch of politically correct Hollywood leftist propaganda but actually showed respect for family values, marriage, the sanctity of life, etc. It's hard not to compare this to Superman, which was absolutely dreadful. A two hour video game sequence that typified everything I hate about superhero movies these days.
This movie typifies everything I hate about most superhero movies these days. Endless video game action sequences that become utterly boring. No character development. And what's with Superman swearing now?? I gave it 2 stars instead of a one because Superman does make a speech at the end about what it means to be human that was somewhat insightful and there was a semi poignant father-son scene, but other than that you're just pretty much watching a two hour video game sequence... Again, go see Fantastic 4!!!
The premise of this film had potential. But as is often the case, Hollywood took an interesting premise and destroyed it. This film is Hollywood filth from beginning to end. Well, maybe beginning to halfway because that's about when I walked out. I can count on one hand the number of films I've walked out on in my life. I expect the critics to love something like this, but I'm deeply disappointed that users gave this as good a rating as they did. Such a sad commentary on the collective moral compass of our society.
