...and failed badly. Maybe I'd have liked it better without that terrible sludge of 'music'! Endless endless sentimental plink plonk with some cheese fiddle added - and never stopping until the very end the when our here rides into the sunset - a long way, any least 5 minutes riding into the sunset - after that, the director, the DP and the editor hugged each other, they were so happy. Talking about the editor, the m misfitting cuts were also quite annoying - one shot being in the bare plains, the reverse suddenly in a lush river valley - and that happens again and again. It's all a little but asleep at the wheel. That endless over the top sentimental 'Gone with the wind' vibe did them in.
Every freaking episode consists of endless and stupid bloodshed. And because the writers/directors/producers also get tired of it, every 15 minutes there's some kind of 'erotic' scene. It all really is utterly annoying. There is no story! It's made for 10 to 14 year olds.
So-called production value is fine, but again, it all is empty.
And why do all those Viking warriors never wash the blood of their faces - even when they camp next to some lake with the cleanest water.
Acting is generally ok, nothing really special but OK.
The problem is that after hours and hours of watching one is left with nothing ....

June Squibb as the lead is the best part of this production, Parker Posey the worst and all the others are somewhat in-between bad acting and overacting alas, the director didn't seem to be on top of it. It's neither 'charming' nor 'cute', it's just trying to milk a genre, and well, it's not working.
So it's supposed to be a fairy tale and I don't quite understand for what audience..?
For elderly people who might take it as a 'romantic comedy' - alas it's more like a film for maybe 10 year olds, bordering as being insulting to so-called 'elderly' people.
Well, as I said, trying hard, way too hard to milk something out of it.
