that's all. it's quite incredible his only bad movie (Mission Impossible) was such a smash hit and nobody cared about this masterpiece. DePalma' s Cinema is all here (well, maybe not. there are no ESP characters that can lift knives and make 'em fly...).
Brian Yuzna's "The Progeny" is outstanding!!!!!!!!! His best effort since his classic "Society"! Maybe it will only come out on video, but don't miss it. It's an alien abduction/insemination horror/sci-fi hardcore movie, and a brilliant metaphore about the responsibilities of fatherhood which also strongly reminds us that pregnancy is ALWAYS an Alien invasion. Hats off.
So bad, it's even hard to review! Two questions: why the hell did Toho allow this mess? And: are we sure they
did spend more than 100M $ to craft this below average piece of moviemaking? SFX were crappy, acting poor (and no Big Buck names were involved), and the entire Madison Square Garden Velociraptor-like sequence stinks. Furthermore, there's
too much advertising and in-Jokes like major Ebert (thumbs down!) are silly beyond forgiveness. American audiences should be angry with Emmerich. He's a heavy teutonic iconoclast revanchist: it seems he only gets pleasure out of destroying the country. At one point I thought the Army was going to defeat Godzilla with another 1,000 H-Bombs like they did in ID4! can you imagine the sequel? The lizard's carcass slowly rotting in the background and Matthew Broderick as well as millions of new yorkers slowly dying of cancer.....
