As a big Predator fan, I have to say that this wasn't my cup of tea. The idea was good, but the execution was rather poor. It's an animated video game. No atmosphere, no suspense, no character development. I found the last 15 minutes to be the worst; it just doesn't make any sense. Yes, it's supposed to come across as great, but in reality it distances you even more from the subject matter. If you liked Alien Romulus, you might want to give this a try. The film was also built on speed rather than atmosphere. The high score of 7.5 made me curious, but I can't give it more than a 4/10 at best.
The film is not really a rebirth. The story and the actors are actually uninteresting. We didn't have any great expectations and took it rather calmly. The dinosaurs are great but not all of them. The monster dino is totally implausible and really out of place. We went to the Imax and the sound is great, the score fits in well and it was really fun. It's such a shame that this IP is just being used so lovelessly as a money-printing machine. Why can't you just have a good story, a main character who is believable and a few dinosaurs? It can't be that difficult. Unfortunately, the film is no more than mediocre. I have to add 5/10 points to get to 600, even if nobody cares.
Yes, the film is a bit older, but compared to many current films, it has a real story. Plus the "handmade" action feels just as real as in the Terminator films 1 and 2, so if you like this kind of film, this is the one for you. The "fictional" plot or message is, as in the Terminator 2 film, always topical and will remain so. There is a common thread in the plot and this is carried through to the end. You also find something like this less and less in current productions. The actors, whether they are the good guys or the bad guys, are all very believable. The fact that the stunt scene where Kate drives the car on two wheels only is now missing makes the film better and more serious. I like the film better without this scene and I absolutely understand why it is no longer in the film. So if you've seen all the modern action films, you should give this one a try. I can only recommend it. I had previously only rated the film 7/10 on imdb and I don't really give it anything like a 10/10. In the meantime and many action films later, I have revised my opinion and it gets a 10/10 together with Terminator.2. Groundbreaking and timelessly good. Hopefully there will be another film like this one day.
