I think this is undoubtedly Shannon Tweed's best film performance. It's a serious role with real acting skill displayed. The other actors are less known but are cast well. The dialogue was especially interesting, combining moral themes and the genre of sex/cop thriller. Anybody who likes "Law & Order" or other tightly written TV series will enjoy seeing this film. It's probably pretty low budget, but compared to a lot of the slick, expensive, but meaningless stuff out there, it's a solid film.
"Romero" is about injustice in the world but presents this theme without "preaching." It draws in the viewer through the excellent performance of Raul Julia (rest his soul! he is missed!). "Romero" is also about class differences and the intolerance of the powerful towards social change. It's a great film for teaching Americans about what life is like in the rest of the world. It's a Hollywood film that managed not to go Hollywood.
The beauty of Casablanca is it's respect for the English language. The writing is near perfect and fits the actors wonderfully. It's an education in the evolution of the language and the paucity of the American style. Besides the writing, Bogart makes the film. He too is a quintessentially American character. This is a film about American culture and values.
