It was a lot of fun. It was very well-acted and written, except the end. I didn't like the ending, a little hokey. Still, it was more honest than most romantic comedies, and it was short. I like the documentary style, and the switching back in time. They almost overused the latter, but they restrained themselves just enough. All in all, not bad. Was it ever released in theaters?

Let's start with the technical aspects. The scene construction is clumsy, the cinematography is uninspiring and the story wreaks of condescension. I know Native Americans are a much maligned group, particularly in film, but surely they should demand better than this piece of drivel. This film's story defines contrived. Isn't it convenient that Costner, the only decent white man on the prairie, just happens to find the only white woman (decent or otherwise) on the prairie? What? Couldn't he fall in love with an Indian woman? That did happen back in the Old West on a regular basis. But I guess that was too much for Mr. Costner's sensibilities. It also smacks of racism. Costner is exploiting Indians, not illuminating them. Back in the 70s, Tom Laughlin made a series of Billy Jack films in which Laughlin played the white knight, schooled in the martial arts, taking up the defense of downtrodden Indians. This movie is just Billy Jack without the karate. What really gets me is the critical response to this worthless film. Have critics lost their minds when they fall for this? I've never trusted them since this movie came out. The critics' reaction to this film so soured me against them that I now go to movies that are panned by critics. There is nothing redeemable about this movie.
