The acting in this movie was absolutely horrible. Worst movie I've seen since Gene Hackman's The Heist and perhaps Jurassic Park 2. The characters are not believable... including Bruce Campbell and the emotional whore. To even mention this in the same sentence as Hitchcok's Rope is an embarassment to fine film making.
Like many other people who have had the benefit of watching this fine piece from Kurosawa, I was touched and found that alot that goes on is still true in our society. It's pathetic to see how much bureaucracy there is in this world today and how much time is wasted doing nothing. This happens everywhere you look. People filling out forms, following absurd procedures, following the status quo. This film will make you want to make a change in your own way and perhaps put a little more effort into helping others. This film is about finding happiness... the ultimate goal in life. I give it 9/10.
