for those who were offended by the movie and those who thought the movie was overdone, and especially those who didn't get the humour at all and thought it was boring, they totally missed the point of the movie.
i know people like the ones in this movie. they are real. there are people who believe exactly like (pick any character) in this movie. satire only works by holding up a mirror to a part of society. it doesn't condemn it, it doesn't praise it. it just shows how people are.
this movie shows what happens when people are so into being Christian, they forget how to be a good people in the process. they think they are teaching love, when in fact, they are practicing intolerance and forcing everyone to live by a specific set of guidelines.
i thought the message of the movie was clear, and that in no way, was God misrepresented. if you believe he is a loving God, then you have to accept that doesn't just mean the upstanding, cookie-cutter citizens, who follow the letter of what YOU believe to be right and good. it means Everyone.
special kudos to the entire cast who i thought did a great job.

i thought this movie was excellent. the take on what stigmata is, the 'miracle' of it, the historical and religious views of stigmata are brought together within the plot of the movie.
it is definitely anti-church, or rather, anti-establishment and anti-church politics. but it is not anti-god. the movie points out what many people believe already, that you do not need a church building to believe in god.
yet, it's not a religious movie. it's not really a horror movie. there are parts that are horrific, and it will make you think. don't watch this if you're in the mood for mindless entertainment. see it, and make your own judgements on what it's about. even if you don't agree with the premise, the acting and the storyline are well worth it.

i loved this movie. it was fun, humorous, entertaining, and witty. the play was first performed in 1732 but i think the plot meets (and excels) today's standards. Mira Sorvino did a great job as did all of the other cast members.
if you liked Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest" or any Shakespearean style plots of mistaken identity, deception, lies, love, comedic betrayal, and that sort of thing, you will enjoy this movie.
(of course it is supposed to take place in France, but as everyone knows, they apparently all speak with English accents there. ha ha.)
