This movie is basically something you want to avoid.Unless you're a die hard cheap horror fan.And event then the movie is still not enjoyable. The film is as one would expect overloaded with bad acting, ridiculous scientific explanations, and annoying stereotypes. Its a good film to bypass.Instead see 'They Bite' or 'Humanoids from the Deep'.
Like all entries in the Gundam universe, this is set far in the future with people living on earth and in space colonies. The story goes that earth has been rather messed up by pollution and so each country makes itself a colony in space(which look like floating islands). To determine who will rule the earth the gundam fight is held.So each country sends a gundam that is repesentitive of itself and a style of fighting unique to itself to be entered in this tournament. The mech designs were pretty cool although a few of them seemed somewhat stereotypical like Neo Spain's Matador Gundam. The show offers some relatively decent charecter developments but not all that much intricate plot. This should please gundam fans and some non gundam fans since its not that hard to follow and can simply be watched just for the heck of it.
Once the title creature shows up you're instantly going to compare this to 'E.T.'.Which is basically right the plot is all very similar to 'E.T.'If not a total clone. What makes it fresh is the way it opens and how the story comes into play. One would think this movie has nothing to do with aliens and that this is a tender story about the relationship between a father and son.But once the alien shows up it becomes to predictable and leaves one wondering just how this alien is supposed to fit into Japanese history and mythology.
