If you didn't get it the first time
the premise of this movie is a resurrected, 3000 year old mummy. Now, how realistic do you want this movie to be? If you go for intelligence then ask yourself first: could you really reawaken a man 3000 years dead? That being said: the movie lives up to it potential. Sit back and enjoy it for what it is. Get away from reality for awhile. Don't let these snobbish reviewers ruin a good time. I think this should be noted for the parents: although the movie does have it's violent moments, you wont find the carnage you see in movies like Saving Private Ryan or Braveheart. I think it's pretty safe for the kids. Enjoy.
This movie should be forsaken. In a word: awful. I was embarrassed to be sitting in the theater (which was almost empty). Have you ever seen Near Dark? Yeah, the really good modern vampire movie. Have you seen John Carpenter's (pretty bad) vampire movie? Have you ever seen the poorest excuse for a vampire movie rip-off? Then you can save your money. Don't even wait for this on DVD. Skip it all together. Rent Near Dark if you haven't seen it, or even if you have, the money and time will be much better spent.
Of course the special effects are great. Beyond that it's a good film. OK, it's not the greatest film ever made but it is a really well done tribute to the people that lost their lives in one the most remarkable storms in history. I read the book and although there are discrepancies in the film, the feeling of loss and caring for the ones left behind is strongly conveyed. I must admit I didn't expect a lot from the film, I was wrong. It took me back to the emotions I felt after reading the book. I appreciate the compassion the filmmakers obviously felt for these people.
To the people that find the story and the characters in this film 'unrealistic': IT'S A TRUE STORY. If you missed the first words that popped-up on the screen, you are excused for not paying attention (perhaps you should have seen something that isn't too taxing on your since of observation).
