  • Worst Danish movie ever?

To say that 'Kærlighed ved første hik' is the worst Danish movie ever might be a little exaggerated - but the only two movies that actually can compete in horrible dialogue, dreadful actors and unbelievable story are `Walther & Carlo i Amerika' (1989) and `Under overfladen' (1999).

The synopsis of this movie is adapted from the book and Thomas Villum Jensen has succeeded in turning this quite amusing book into an 85 min. embarrassing mishmash of tacky clichés and unrealistic events. To line them all up would be a waste of time so I simply must conclude that this film is not suitable for anyone what-so-ever.

  • Simply horrible.

These is film is a horrible mix-up between an old fairytale and modern horror movie. For a start the plot seems rather unconvincing and the effects and the actors are just as dreadful as you could expects for this type of movie.

The main character is very poorly played by Kim Ulrich Johnston, who by all means should have taken at least some acting lessons. Max Grodénchik, who seems to be an actor that even Ed Wood would have turned down if he applied for a role in any film, plays Rumpelstiltskin so poorly that it makes you cry. The effects almost convince you that this movie was made in the 70s instead of '96. I've seen far better effects in 50s movies, e.g. ‘Santa Claus conquers the Martians' and I can't imagine that the special effects people at the set of ‘Rumpelstiltskin' even convinced themselves that they were doing a decent job.

This movie is not suitable for viewing for anybody what so ever - man or freak.

  • Tacky and cheap

This movie is a showcase of poor directing, writing and acting.

In several sequences in the movie the director seems to forget whether it was day or night when he started shooting the scene. In addition the main character John Larkin (Timothy Hutton) wears a white tank top, which he somehow manages to keep spotless during the entire movie.

The plot seems like a pitiable version of RoboCop, with a bit of sex put in it. The sex makes this film even worse as it seems it has been in for no particular reason non other that the pleasure of the viewer. There are simply too many unexplained things in this film and combined with very poor acting this movie probably wins the first prize for tackiness and clichés.
