Sperry23's rating
Recommended by several streaming, the show doesn't live up to the hype. The only saving grace for the show is the episodes are a blessedly short 11 minutes.
Ballyhooed as a dark fantasy, it's really just a weak pastiche of half-developed ideas. The fever dream of a storyline is weak and more apt for a single, 90-minute film. Another shortfall is the variety of plot holes such as how did the characters get from point A to point C without going through point B. And why?
The voice acting is good, with several well-known actors. Sadly, their talents seem wasted.
The musical "numbers" in every episode appear to be simply time-fillers and are not at all entertaining.
I suppose if one is a fan of the overrated, and extremely dismal Series of Unfortunate Events, Over the Garden Wall will be OK, but for me, I'll take any Studio Ghibli film.
