The first time I ever noticed Sean Bean was in this TV drama. The small screen was barely big enough to hold his charisma. When the world discovers an actor who smoulders and turns in a gripping performance, then you know they will be going a long way.
The story itself unfolds with surprising twists in the tale. Right up until the final moments you are left wondering who is that masked man.

A superbly balanced cast portray a story of love and loss in northern England. Excellent period piece that conveys the atmosphere of a rugged pre-war industrial town. Passions run high as love tries to cross the class divide. Performance which particularly stands out is that of a young Jane Horrocks.
