This movie is great to watch, especially late at night with a cup of tea and a blanket. This is a fabulous example of the haunted house genre of its' time. An art that is sadly lost in todays world of cynics, cliches and too many special effects. There is humor, charm, and lots of style found in The Uninvited. Although it is a spooky movie, there is also wit. Anyone who appreciates its romanticism needs to read The Lamorna Wink by Martha Grimes. It is a first rate mystery novel set in an old sea side mansion with the same winding staircases, ghostly visions etc and actually refers to this movie directly many times.
I love the apartment in this movie. It is so fifties, in a very good way. The song is good too. This is a cozy movie to watch anytime. Debbie Reynolds is cute and funny, the dialogue is witty, and even the kind of creepy age gap thing has its charm! I've seen this a few times on turner classics, but missed taping it. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys stylish witty comedies with a twist of the surreal.
