Not for everyone, but a tremendous film.
Exceptional performances by the entire cast, a perfect soundtrack, the pacing is good, writing and directing are first-rate.
To call it original is to put it mildly. Rent or watch it on cable - you won't be disappointed.

A largely forgotten classic, Muggable Mary is shown regularly on Eastern European television. I saw it when I was staying in Warsaw some years ago and again in Budapest this past summer. Don't ask me why.
But it's not bad - made me go out and read the book. Makes you remember what NYC used to be all about, and speaks of the dangers of working undercover, and issues of police entrapment.

Of course, it's an obvious thing to say, but, ugh, this is a classic case of "the book was better."
The casting, the awful blue-bleak cinematography, the strained, over-the-top attempts at re-creating moments from the book - a sad fate for a great story.
