This is a bit overrated. I don't know why - there are much more compelling movies about AI (even very old ones). The next "Ex Machina" it is not.
"Companion" fails to establish depth of characters, while taking too long to finally take off. However the second half has some redeeming qualities that touch psychology, and some nice plot twists and scenes.
Cinematography is not very original most of the time, acting is ok to very good. Sophie Thatcher shines as the companion.
This movie is only recommended to AI completists, it's inferior to brilliant entries in the genre, like Ex Machina, Upgrade, and even M3gan (which is more campy but also much more entertaining). Even the still underrated Zone 414 is ultimately more interesting.
If you're into teen horror/slasher movies, Companion may be a nice one time watch.

I feel this is a hard limited series to review.
But let's try it this way: I thoroughly enjoyed all of it, was emotionally invested in all of the characters (acting was superb), and fascinated by the technical brilliance of the one take concept.
But I did not check how many episodes there were. So I was quite shocked when it just stopped. No court room scene, no conclusion of the interesting case.
Everything that had been built up is now left to the guesswork of the viewer.
I assume, that was the goal of the writers - to concentrate more on the characters and their coping mechanisms.
Still, I felt the ending was quite frustrating, because everything else was SO GOOD.
It felt like a letdown. Honestly I also was expecting some plot twists, after some weird scenes in the school episode.
Anyway, I highly recommend watching this, it is a great series, technically and acting-wise. Don't expect anything to be tied up in the end and you're good.
Warning: Can be emotionally taxing, especially for people with bullying experience and of course parents whose kid had commited a serious crime.

Found this in a thrift store, thought I'd give it a chance.
It turned out to be a very low if no budget movie. However, the story was pretty captivating in terms of suspense, and motive of the perpetrator. The script was certainly well written with some intelligent dialogue.
The acting was shaky at times though, the sound quality of the dialogue was murky at times. Cinematography was good, the lighting was excellent.
The movie lives through the unclear characters and developments throughout the story, though some suspension of disbelief is needed.
I think the message was the best thing about it.
Watch this if you have no problem with no budget productions, and hate social media and superficial influencers - it's certainly a concept that hadn't been done, and had to be done.
