  • Disappointing!

As a "Jane Eyre" fan I was excited when this movie came out. "At last," I thought, "someone will make this book into a movie following the story actually written by the author." Wrong!!! If the casting director was intending to cast a "Jane" who was plain he certainly succeeded. However, surely he could have found one who could also act. Where was the tension between Jane and Rochester? Where was the spooky suspense of the novel when the laughter floated into the night seemingly from nowhere? Where was the sparkle of the child who flirted and danced like her mother? Finally, why was the plot changed at the end? One wonders whether the screenwriters had actually read the book. What a disappointment

  • What a come-down from the earlier versions!!!

The only thing that really recommends this movie is the scenery--it was beautifully filmed. However, the hammy acting and seemingly constant yelling of Ciarán Hinds & Samantha Morton spoil much of the beauty of the story. One of the things that attracted Mr. Rochester to Jane Eyre was her serenity. I saw none of that restful quality in this performance. This being one of my all-time favourite novels, I do enjoy watching all versions but I must admit this one was a disappointment. The British versions of the classics are usually better.

  • If you have read the book this movie will disappoint you.

Agatha Christie is a Master of Mystery and her writings are classic. "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd" is one of her best and should have been a great movie. However, this movie bears very little resemblance to the book, especially at the end. I suppose the writers thought her ending would be too tame for today's audiences. Just once I wish someone would make an Agatha Christie movie that is faithful to her writing
