I was 17 when I first watched this movie and I had never seen a lesbian film before which treated the lesbian characters with such respect. Also, I had never seen such a passionate love scene between two women, needless to say after that scene I could no longer deny my own lesbianism. Great use of Patsy Cline's music.
I was quite disappointed in the movie after reading the novel. It was disappointing that Idgie's and Ruth's real relationship never came through in the movie. They were obviously lesbian lovers, which the movie swayed away from. It was quite annoying, and left me unsatisfied. Also, in the book Ruth is not Buddy's ex-girlfriend.
This is perhaps the best movie I've seen this decade or last. It moved me. I've seen it about 3 times, and each time I cry. It is very violent and graphic, but these scenes were definitley needed. Grace was played wonderfully by the young actress
