This is one of the most beautifully filmed movies I have seen. We learn a lot about coffee plantations in Brasil and how Brasil came to have the largest population of Japanese outside of Japan (more than even the U.S.).
The actors in this movie speak the language of whatever country they represent, so it is filmed in Japanese, Portuguese, Italian and English and the SUBTITLES are critical to the plot. Anyone who watches this movie dubbed will miss the whole point of it at the end.
I cannot recommend this movie too highly. It is one of the best foreign films I've seen.

This is about the funniest movie I've ever seen. Billy Crystal is perfect as the psychiatrist and DeNiro does wonderful comedy. I don't often laugh out loud in movies--I laughed heartily all through this one. DeNiro's parodies of his own previous movies is wonderful. It's wonderful fluff and I highly recommend it.
I first saw this movie when I was in grammar school, in 1954. I fell in love with it. I have probably seen it (conservatively) more than 100 times, have both the original video and the restored videotape. It is Judy Garland at her finest. Though I like Barbra Streisand very much, what she did in the remake was criminal.
