  • Surprisingly not bad

Rented this one expecting it to be some throwaway "bachelor weekend" trash, but was amazed at how deeply the script delved into the couple's marital problems. The beautiful Jennifer Sommerfield also brought more than a couple of dimensions to what could have been a cliche hooker role. The last line of the movie--read from a letter written by her character--was actually quite moving. This movie was undoubtedly marketed as a low-budget titillation feature, but it's much more mature than that.

Course, there are some pretty hot scenes in it, too.

  • Horrible

Remember National Lampoon's 1964 High School Yearbook Parody? It's a work of absolute genius, a laugh-out-loud example of the Lampoon in its glory days. Well, back in the early '80s, I read somewhere that the Lampoon was going to produce a movie based on the yearbook parody. With the hilarity of Animal House still fresh in my mind, I was beside myself with excitement--I couldn't wait for a movie based on the '64 yearbook.

Unfortunately, the next Lampoon movie to be released was Class Reunion, a witless mess that looks as if it were edited with a dull hacksaw. I remember seeing it and thinking "They made THIS instead of a movie based on the yearbook parody?"

And after that I was afraid they thought Class Reunion WAS a movie based on the yearbook parody. In any event, it's horrible.

    Showgirls Q & A

    Q. What possessed Kyle MacLachlan to be in this film?

    A. "Hey, they're going to pay me AND I get a lap dance from Elizabeth Berkley? What the hey!"

    Q. Why was Elizabeth Berkley constantly groping herself?

    A. She was originally groping for some motivation, since a close reading of the script would have given her no clue whatsoever about why her character acted the way she did.

    Q. Did the filmmakers actually think that Nomi Malone's transformation into the G-Stringed Avenger after the incredibly gratuitous rape scene would fool us into believing Nomi had some real redeeming qualities?

    A. Evidently.
