Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been getting regular updates as part of Next on Netflix, an opportunity to see what’s coming to Netflix in 2025 from around the world. One of the countries participating in the live event for journalists was Netflix Italy, which previewed its upcoming slate for 2025 for local journalists. The year has already started strong with Public Disorder (or Acab as it’s known in other regions), but what else is coming up? Here’s a rundown of what we unveiled.

Imagine an acerbic love child miraculously spawned by Addison DeWitt of “All About Eve” and Waldo Lydecker of “Laura,” with John Simon serving as midwife, and you will be prepared for Jimmy Erskine, the viciously witty and mercilessly demanding title character played with utterly delicious flamboyance by Ian McKellen in “The Critic.” Directed by Anand Tucker (“Shopgirl”) and written by Patrick Marber (“Notes on a Scandal”), the film is a heady brew of period thriller, compelling melodrama and jet-black comedy, and the second most remarkable thing about it is how seamlessly these diverse elements gel.

Djimon Hounsou has once again discussed his discriminatory pay in Hollywood. Despite starring in major studio productions like the MCU, DC, and Fast & Furious, Hounsou shared that he was struggling to make a living financially. Hounsou concluded that systemic racism still exists in the film industry.

He had earlier shared that some of the studio execs’ vision of him was very limited when he went to meetings with these studios. He shared that he had to prove to them why he needed to be paid for a particular role. Hounsou was recently seen in Zack Snyder’s two-part Rebel Moon films.

Djimon Hounsou is one of the most prolific actors working in Hollywood today. In the comic book movie realm alone, he's starred in Constantine, Guardians of the Galaxy, Aquaman, Captain Marvel, Shazam!, Black Adam, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

He also received "Best Supporting Actor" Oscar nominations for his roles in Blood Diamond and In America. Despite finding that level of success, the actor recently looked back on his career in an interview with CNN and revealed he's "struggling financially to make a living."

"I am still struggling trying to make a living," Hounsou admitted. "After 30 years...maybe the first 10 years was trying to acclimate myself to the industry, to establish myself. But I’ve been in this business making films now for over two decades and with two Oscar nominations and been in many blockbuster films, and yet, I’m still struggling financially to make a living. Terrifier 3's returning star Lauren Lavera is landing more co-stars for Paramount's next big monster movie. Among these is a famous rapper making his feature film debut along with a horror genre star taking on her first on-screen role in nearly a decade.

Per Deadline, Paramount's Republic Pictures has officially acquired worldwide rights to The Monster from director Darren Lynn Bousman and writers Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer. It was previously reported that the film is set to star the Terrifier franchise's Lauren Lavera alongside The Wilds' Mia Healey and Academy Award winner Djimon Hounsou. For starters, Paramount’s Republic Pictures label has boarded worldwide rights on the film. Additionally, Gina Philips (Jeepers Creepers) has signed on to co-star in The Monster.

As Deadline notes in their report, this will mark Gina Philips’ first on-screen role in eight years. In addition to playing Trish alongside Justin Long in Jeepers Creepers, Philips’ horror credits also include Deadly Invasion: The Killer Bee Nightmare (1995), and Dead & Breakfast (2004).

Dakota Fanning and The Strangers director Bryan Bertino are teaming up for a horror movie called Vicious, which is coming our way from Paramount Pictures, and Deadline reports that Fanning is being joined in the cast by Devyn Nekoda (Scream VI), Mary McCormack (The West Wing), Rachel Blanchard (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Kathryn Hunter (Poor Things), Klea Scott (Millennium), and Emily Mitchell (Ordinary Angels). The film is heading toward an August 8, 2025 theatrical release.

Scripted by Bertino, Vicious sees Fanning taking on the role of a young woman who is left a strange present by a late-night visitor, and quickly realizes she is fighting for her life after slipping down a disturbing rabbit hole contained inside the gift.

Jacob Elordi is involved in a police investigation in his native Australia after allegedly assaulting a radio producer on Saturday.

As first reported by Australia’s Daily Telegraph, the “Saltburn” and “Euphoria” star was at a hotel in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs when he was approached by Joshua Fox, a producer for “The Kyle & Jackie O Show” on Kiis FM. According to Fox’s account of the situation on the show Monday morning, he asked Elordi if he could have some of his bathwater for Jackie O for her birthday — a reference to a viral scene in “Saltburn.” Elordi asked Fox to stop filming and delete the footage, and then the situation allegedly escalated.
