When I saw Maxim Genchev's Levski I was disappointed and I wanted this film to be over as soon as possible... I can't say I hated it, but I can't say I loved it or enjoyed it. While I was watching it I didn't feel anything... I didn't care about this film. The only positive thing I can say about this film is that they tried to make a film about Levski which is a positive thing, but after those 3 and a half hours I was so empty. I just wasted my precious time... There were a lot of unnecessary scenes which just didn't felt that they were in their places.

This movie has BOLLYWOOD written all over it. An embarrassment, it makes a complete mockery of Bulgarian history. Factually inaccurate, it requires a Phd in history to follow the hundreds of characters that drift in and out of focus, but what's worse is that the even its delusional message is poorly delivered. Fragmented, with too many ideas presented in too few scenes, awful lot of tangents and the director is part of the cast. Do you need more? The soundtrack is tacky and over the edge. Far worse than the cheapest Bollywood production. Please, do not form any opinions on Bulgarian history or culture based on this absolutely awful movie.
Just watch this movie today and i couldn't stay in silence.First of all i was looking forward to see that movie since it came out.But it end up being one BIG and FAT JOKE. I was watching this movie in pain. All the directing(if i can say this is directing) was awful. Too much jumping from one story to another. When you watch it, you getting so confused. They jump from one year to another from one place to another and they are not even connected.Too many point of views. You don't know who is who in this movie and you cannot follow the story, because THEY'RE NO STORY. Its no screenplay to follow. ITS JUST AWFUL!!! I feel like if i give camera and some money to my nephew, he will do way better than all the Directing team in this movie. Its so bad that iam in shock. Its not even about the history and which side is better. This movie just didn't show anything. But also i feel like this movie is joking with Bulgarian history!!! I feel like that the director was just practicing his effect skills with slow motion and drones. I hope he doesn't make any other movies! Please do yourself a favor and don't watch it.

I have only heard about this movie and when I got the oppurtunity to watch it today on television I was glad. BUT I didn't expect to be that bad, seriously I stopped it after 15minutes. It was so hard to follow the storyline, not to mention the sound was alwful a could barely understand what are the actors talking. It's a shame a movie about the life of Vasil Levski is that bad, but I am not surprised after I saw who is the director, although the main actor obviously was putting a lot of of efforts and the begining seemed to be promising. Overall I wouldn't recommend it to anyone and seems like a waste of money and time,

A horrible film in every aspect. A joke with Bulgaria's greatest national hero. A film with no artistic value. A film with untalented actors, who don't know how to be naturally in front of the cameras. An absurd argument that doesn't tell the real story. A parody of Vasil Levski's personality. Attempted Bollywood-style action scenes, mixed with western, but without the cawboys because there's Levski shooting with two pistols in both hands - Neo style in The MatriX. And finally, Levski using cynical language.
In short, horrible director, horrible plot, Horrible editing, horrible writing, horrible dialogues, actors who think it's a play or are just lousy and can't contribute more.
Far from the historical figure of Vasil Levski, he does not tell of his merits, his knowledge, his contributions, the cause for his worldwide recognition and the magnitude of his activity. In that film, Levski is nothing more than a village jerk, who in the end even surrenders and surrenders to the few soldiers who come and hang him, as if he were a chicken thief.

If you think of it as a parody of patriotic historical films This is one of the best Bulgarian comedy I've ever seen.
Truly a masterpiece of humor. And a pioneer in new eastern European parodying, which is very rear in are society nowadays. Most memorable of all characters are Plachkov's Levski and Genchev's Moham Bey really fun and demented personalities. I think they represented well the director's vision that He probably doesn't have and He probably did it only to capitalizing from the shared patriotic view of many Bulgarians who donated 1 500 million to his great cause. Or maybe He is just a shitty actor. Everything is plausible. None the less this is a hilarious movie in my eyes.

This story is really hard to tell. It is a part of the history of Bulgaria that is a very sensitive matter to all Bulgarians. So I started watching the movie with a bit of fear that the director and actors might have not done a good job on it.
The main character Vasil Levski is the most sacred person in the whole history of the country. He was a man who was pure in heart and lived his life and died for one goal only, the freedom of the country. Thus, in my opinion, it is the greatest challenge to any director as well as the actor portraying Levski to make a movie adaptation of the story.
But i am proud to say that the actor Veselin Plachkov has connected so well with the character that I couldn't believe it was even possible. Great job to all actors, director and all other people responsible for making this movie! Movie soundtracks were great, too.
Emotional, heartfelt and heartbreaking! Truly, the best movie I've seen in a long time! Thank you!
