Let’s get this out the way: Nobody titles their film “Eel” if they don’t want critics to reach for the adjective “slippery,” and Chu Chun-Teng’s woozily gorgeous first feature invites it from the off. Its story, slender but charged, is in a constant state of retreat, repeatedly darting into psychological and existential alleys just out of view. Its images, too, are often as elusive as they are beautiful, symbolically layered but accommodating of uncertain, Rorschach-style intuition. The chase is the thrill in “Eel,” an open-ended love story in which an atmosphere of suspended summertime yearning is sometimes cut through with gestures of brazen, unambiguous, horny human need — like a head-clearing pang, or pain, amid lapping waves of more inchoate feeling.

This new installment aims to capture the raw intensity and horror of that fateful day through the eyes of a younger Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, with John Dimaggio and Carlos Ferro reprising their iconic roles.

Despite its popularity, Gears of War is a video game series that failed to keep up and had a terrible downfall. This happened when The Coalition took charge as series developers with Gears of War 4 and introduced a new storyline involving Kait and Jd as central characters.
The storyline was interrupted by the recent announcement of Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel set 14 years before the first game. However, the third instalment in the Kait and Jd trilogy could hold something exciting for fans.
Enthusiastic Fan Asks a Question Which Might Very Make the Plot for Gears of War 6
While long-term fans were incredibly excited to see Marcus Phoenix and Dominic Santiago in the trailer for E-Day, some were also confused. That is because the series had already begun a revamp, eventually leading to the strange ending of Gears 5.

Gears of War: E-Day has set everyone’s expectations high by promising to explore Emergence Day’s chaos while potentially reshaping key elements of the Gears lore. While little is known about what players will experience in the storyline, there is certainly a buzz about who will be the main antagonist.
There are several possibilities regarding the potential villain of the upcoming game. Since the storyline will take place just at the beginning of E-Day, The Coalition has a blank canvas on their hands. However, it might be better to focus on the overwhelming threat of the Locust Horde itself rather than introducing a single primary antagonist.

Fans on Reddit are imagining a scenario in Gears of War 3 where you had to choose between saving Cole or Baird. The community was equally divided on who they would pick, and both of these characters had great arguments presented by the fanbase.
Gears of War 5 did actually have this choice, forcing players to choose between the last game’s protagonist, James, or Kate’s new bestie, Del, in the third act of the game, barely an hour before the credits rolled.
The Hypothetical Choice Between Cole and Baird
This idea, posed by a user on the subreddit r/GearsofWar, led to some intense debate among fans. The user asked if the studio behind the game, The Coalition, had implemented this choice in Gears 5 instead of the one between James and Del, or if Epic Games had done so all the way back in Gears of War 3, whether or not...

From what we have seen so far of Gears of War: E-Day, The Coalition will take the game back to its defining qualities: grit and gore. But there is more to these games than simply pulling a trigger and watching things evaporate in a crimson mist.
The overarching story of all the games shows how humanity has been pushed to the brink. However, the oppressors changed in the series, with the first three games featuring the Locusts and the fourth and fifth featuring the Swarm. But this has caused a shift in player sentiment for the game too!

Gears of War: E-Day brings back Marcus and Dom for a prequel on Emergence Day, but risks further repeating old themes. Gears of War 4 and Gears 5 added interesting twists to the series, but ultimately retread old ground. E-Day is similarly stuck trying to recapture the heights of the original trilogy by bringing players back to the Locust War, which the series never really left in the first.
Gears of War: E-Day is one of my most anticipated upcoming games. I adored the series' original trilogy, but I'm just now getting around to playing its more recent entries after skipping the Xbox One generation. Gears of War 4 and Gears 5 haven't quite reached the same heights as the series-best Gears of War 2 for me, but roadie running around and chainsawing grubs has a sort of base appeal that hasn't ceased to be entertaining. As the world eagerly awaits the release of Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel that promises to take us back to the harrowing origins of the Locust War, a tantalizing question has emerged: could this classic Xbox exclusive find its way to the PlayStation 5?

It will cover the first emergence of the Locust, when humans were still unprepared to face these terrifying creatures. As a result, many fans have various theories and suggestions about what should happen in this title.
For instance, a discussion arose on Reddit about how good the main character Marcus Fenix is, as he has made quite questionable decisions in the past but always ends up in a favorable light, unlike his son in the last two games. Perhaps this prequel should emphasize even more that he is a character with many nuances.

The official unveiling of Gears of War: E-Day at the Xbox Games Showcase earlier this month has every Gears fan chomping at the bit for more information about the most awaited prequel. While the gritty, action-packed trailer gave us a tempting glimpse of the Locust War’s brutal origins, it’s what the game might include that has fans truly excited: the return of Overrun!
For those who never had the chance to experience the adrenaline-fueled mayhem of Overrun, imagine a mode that takes the best elements of Horde and Beast, throws them into a blender, and cranks the dial up to eleven. It was a mode that kept players coming back for more—even when Judgment‘s multiplayer failed to hit the mark.

What did five of the most critically acclaimed Asian movies that premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival have in common? They all were edited by rising Taiwanese studio Cutting Edge Films.
Formally established only in 2022, the company comprises a small group of film professionals who have worked together for over a decade. They are co-led by French editor Matthieu Laclau (Touch of Sin), known for his long-running collaboration with Chinese auteur Jia Zhangke, and Taiwanese producer Justine O. (The Chinese Mayor, Black Dog), whose work has nabbed a succession of festival prizes in recent years. The company says its recent successes point to the maturity and expanding reach of Taipei’s post-production sector, which has been buoyed by steady government support and a growing reputation for high-quality work at globally competitive prices.
“Taipei’s post-production scene is definitely having a moment,” says Laclau. “For VFX, editing or color grading,...

The best Gears of War game is Gears of War 2, which features innovative additions like Horde mode. Gears of War has a loyal fanbase, with each entry retaining a similar feel despite slight tweaks. Gears 5 is a solid entry in the series that expands the gameplay formula with open-world sections, hinting at a larger future for the franchise.
The best Gears of War game will always come down to player preference, but it's inarguable that Gears has always been a reliable hit for Microsoft's line of consoles. The third-person shooters feature football-sized men crouching down behind an inexplicable number of knee-high barriers and firing off weapons at glorified mole men who want to take over the surface, and somehow, lead designer Cliff Bleszinski made that premise believable and emotionally resonant, turning out a trilogy of great Xbox titles and leaving new developers The Coalition a blueprint for success when...

The Gears of War franchise is taking a bold new step with its latest installment, Gears of War E-Day. The developers have promised a unique experience that will follow the characters through ‘every single minute’ of the Locust invasion.
This is a big departure from previous games, which have focused more on the big events and major objectives than the day-to-day lives during a certain time period.
Gears of War E-Day Will Feature a Closer Look at Daily Survival
The character development between Marcus and Dom in Gears of War E-Day will be a big focus.
In past Gears of War games, the campaigns typically spanned several weeks, and they were all about major missions and the bigger picture. Things would only happen that moved the plot forward, you wouldn’t follow a character through an entire day and see what they’ve been doing.
You’d jump from one epic battle to the next,...

As the Cannes Film Festival celebrates its parties and standing ovations, audiences in Hollywood and New York prepare to wallow in despair. And they’ll enjoy it (almost).
The festival called Bleak Week this week will deliver 43 films to an expected audience of 10,000 at theaters including the restored Egyptian in Hollywood, the Aero in Santa Monica and the Paris in New York.
Created by the American Cinematheque, Bleak Week will feature celebrities and Q&a sessions explaining why their projects deal with existential dread, nihilism and “uncomfortable truths,” as Bleak Week creative director Grant Moninger puts it.
Not surprisingly, there surely also will be post-screening alcoholic consumption for filmgoers seeking to ease the pain.
As the Cinematheque details it, Bleak Week was not prompted by Gaza, student protests, geomagnetic storms or the possible loss of yet another studio (Paramount).

Code of Silence: Keff Revisits Time of Turmoil
For his directorial debut, Keff revisits the pinnacle of turmoil during the 2019 Hong Kong protests as a backdrop for a pseudo gangland thriller and romantic drama in Locust. Much like its protagonist, a mute young man in-between two distinct worlds, it’s a film set in the eye of this storm. But those who stand for nothing fall for anything, which seems to be the moral code threaded between these themes in a country wobbling on the precipice of political erosion. The story takes place across the strait in Taipei, when, in June of 2019, a thin membrane between these realms suddenly erodes, and the disastrous energy out of Hong Kong touches down in this other house which has inherited the wind.…...

After languishing in development purgatory for years, the ‘Gears of War’ movie is finally getting its time in the limelight, thanks to Netflix. This film adaptation of the iconic video game series is stirring excitement among fans, especially with whispers about potential castings and direction. Cliff Bleszinski, the genius behind the game, voiced his endorsement for Zack Snyder to take the director’s seat in a chat with ComicBook.com. He’s confident that Snyder’s knack for molding existing IPs would work wonders for the adaptation.
However, Bleszinski’s praise for Snyder has its caveats. While he appreciated Snyder’s classics like the ‘Dawn of the Dead’ remake and ‘300’, he wasn’t particularly taken with ‘Army of the Dead,’ a recent Netflix endeavor by the director. Lanterns on the Lake have announced that their new album, Versions of Us, will be out June 2nd via Bella Union. Featuring Radiohead’s Philip Selway on drums and percussion, it’s the band’s fifth studio album, and their first since the departure of their former drummer, Ol Ketteringham. Alongside the announcement, the group unveiled the album’s lead single, “The Likes of Us.”
Versions of Us is the follow-up to 2020’s Spook the Herd. The album’s nine tracks serve as a platform for the English quintet to explore subjects ranging from new motherhood to destiny to the meaning of life itself. Self-produced there is a sense of intimacy embedded in the songs.
“Writing songs requires a certain level of self-indulgence, and songwriters can be prone to dwelling on themselves,” songwriter Hazel Wilde said in a statement. “Motherhood made me aware of having a different stake in the world.
