A new DC Universe report reveals how long James Gunn's Superman movie may end up being when the film hits theaters this summer. While the Man of Steel hasn't had a solo film in several years, DC Studios is changing that with the arrival of Gunn's Superman movie in a couple of months. With Superman being one of the most highly-anticipated movies of 2025, many are waiting to learn as much as possible about Clark Kent's cinematic return.
In a new report from The InSneider the outlet claims that the upcoming Superman film with David Corenswet currently has a runtime of 2 hours and 2 minutes. This would make Gunn's Superman movie the shortest of the hero's roster since the sequels to the Christopher Reeve films. At the time of this story's publication, DC Studios has not commented on the Superman runtime report.

Jenna Ortega’s Marvel past might be one of Hollywood’s best-kept secrets. The 22-year-old, before she became a horror queen in Scream and stole the show as Wednesday Addams, had a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment in the MCU, one that even die-hard Marvel fans probably overlooked.

Take a walk back more than a decade, in 2013, when Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 had just hit the theatres with its insane action, plot twists, and star-studded cast. It was around the 90-minute mark in that movie when a young Jenna Ortega appeared amidst the chaos—briefly, silently, and without a character name.

While the role of Hannah Montana is now known as the role that launched the career of superstar Miley Cyrus, in another reality, it would have been the big breakout role of Pretty Little Liars starLucy Hale. From the mid-2000s to the early 2010s, the names Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus were inescapable as they were a cultural phenomenon. After 17 years, Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert still remains the highest-grossing Super Bowl weekend opening and Hannah Montana: The Movie grossed $155 million worldwide in 2009. It is hard to imagine anyone else in the role of Hannah Montana, but it turns out the role could have been very different if she had looked like Katy Keene's star.

For years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has enthralled audiences around the world on the big screen. But in recent years, it has taken the adventures to the small one too, entertaining us from the comfort of our own homes with cutting edge adventures that are still worthy of the biggest screen imaginable.
With the launch of the Disney Plus streaming service back in 2019, major franchises like Marvel, Star Wars, and Disney itself were able to produce multi-episode adventures to appeal to both the established audience of each brand and new viewers along the way. It was a new way of reaching people - or, rather, an old way of reaching people via a new method.
This isn't the first time that Marvel has turned to television, with various iconic shows over the years on both network TV in the US and Netflix around the world, but the new shows are...

It began with 2008’s “Iron Man,” a film that introduced the world to Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark with the hint that he could be part of something greater. Over 30 films later, the story of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still being told, albeit with various tributaries and detours that introduce new characters and new worlds that may or may not cross paths one day. Each film in the MCU stands on its own to some degree, but like building blocks, they all connect as part of one interconnected universe. And in that way, watching the Marvel movies in order tells one grand story.
There are a couple of different ways to watch the Marvel movies in order, but below we run down how to watch the MCU in chronological and release date order. Indeed, some films like “Captain Marvel” and “Captain America: The First Avenger” are full-on prequels...

Florence Pugh recently described the tone of Thunderbolts* by comparing it to a certain popular movie studio – which will likely excite some, confuse others, and make others even more skeptical. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had an interesting start to 2025, with the mixed reaction to Captain America: Brave New World balanced out by the overwhelmingly positive response to the first two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, which premiered this week. Thunderbolts* is the next installment in the MCU and will kick off the summer movie season on the first weekend of May, the same weekend that Marvel previously released Iron Man, Thor, The Avengers, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Vol. 3.
While speaking with Empire Magazine, star Florence Pugh compared Thunderbolts* – a movie that collects various assassin characters from across the MCU into a team – to a movie released by A24.

Vin Diesel has suggested that he may return as Groot in a new Marvel project separate from the Guardians of the Galaxy series. The actor shared the update in an Instagram post outlining his schedule for 2025.
“Disney wants their Planet X! Which some say is Marvel’s most anticipated movie, haha. The film where Groot returns to his home planet,” Diesel wrote.
His statement has led to speculation about a standalone film focused on Groot’s origins and home world. Planet X, known as the home of the Flora Colossus species, has appeared in Marvel comics but has yet to be explored in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Diesel has voiced Groot since Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), continuing the role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019). He returned for Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023). He also voiced the...

As is so often the case, we've now heard good and bad things from Superman's early internal test screenings. It's always best to take chatter like that with a pinch of salt, though we perhaps shouldn't be surprised that the reboot is drawing mixed reviews.
While filmmaker James Gunn has a great track record, the Man of Steel isn't a character it's easy to make relevant in today's world. The hero is viewed as overpowered and old-fashioned by some, meaning even the best Superman movie is unlikely to strike a chord with them.

Car-jackers beware. Hannibal Lector himself is administering a new brand of punishment in the upcoming thriller from producer Sam Raimi. Locked is directed by David Yarovesky, who has collaborated with James Gunn on the film Brightburn and also directed the disco-centric music video for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 titled “Guardians Inferno.” Yarovesky directs from a script written by Michael Arlen Ross, who penned Turistas. The thriller is small-scale and only features Bill Skarsgård and Anthony Hopkins in the cast.
The official synopsis reads,
“From producer Sam Raimi comes a relentless horror-thriller where luxury becomes deadly. When Eddie (Bill Skarsgård) breaks into a luxury SUV, he steps into a deadly trap set by William (Anthony Hopkins), a self-proclaimed vigilante delivering his own brand of twisted justice. With no means of escape, Eddie must fight to survive in a ride where escape is an illusion, survival is a nightmare, and justice shifts into high gear.

While discussing the possibility of McU-style post-credit scenes in Dcu projects, Gunn was pensive thanks to his past experiences. As he explained, he found firsthand that post-credit scenes can be a difficult narrative device when he was writing "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" and realized that he had forced his own hand when it comes to one particular "Guardians" character, Adam Warlock (Will Poulter). The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had its major ups and downs over the course of more than a decade in theaters. Although the critical responses to recent films have seemed faulty, the world can't ignore just how major of a box office draw it has been. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is Marvel's newest animated series and has reintroduced the character to audiences all over the world. Originally planned to be an animated origin show starring an early version of McU's Peter Parker, the show quickly grew into its own idea, including characters like Norman Osborn and Doc Oc. With all these brand-new, exciting ideas came a lot of opportunities for different versions of characters, particularly heroes.

The scrutiny around the new entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues. Anthony Mackie made his debut in his first standalone film, Captain America: Brave New World, taking over the shield from Chris Evans' Steve Rogers as Captain America.
The new movie, which is the first out of three MCU movies to premiere this year, had a lukewarm reception. Although the film was under scrutiny and received negative reviews from critics, it has also received more than passable scores from the audience and exceeded expectations at the box office. At the same time, Forbes reports Captain America: Brave New World has set an unfortunate Cinemascore record for the MCU.

Even before meeting Peter Tothpal, one senses that he will be effusive and buoyant — you don’t repeatedly work with as many A-listers as he did throughout his career as a hairstylist without bringing a certain ebulliency to set.
“I’m just a happy camper,” he told IndieWire regarding his recently announced Lifetime Achievement honor from the MUAHs Guild Awards. “I’m always looking at the bright side, and it worked out for me. I feel very lucky to be able to work with the people who I really like.”
That attitude isn’t just the side effect of being feted for his career; Jennifer Garner singled it out as one of the main reasons she always requested Tothpal for her projects. “ It’s hard to talk about Peter without talking about his affable, easygoing, warm [personality],” she told IndieWire. “He has an Eq of about a million. I’m distraught that he’s retiring.

Love it or hate it, Rotten Tomatoes is now more important than ever when it comes to whether film and TV fans decide to check out the latest releases at home or in theaters, and it's not uncommon for studios to tout scores as proudly as star ratings.
Marvel Studios Animation has proven to be a big part of the Multiverse Saga with What If...? kicking things off in 2021. Since then, we've had a spin-off of a hit movie, a new take on the McU's Spider-Man, and a revival of one of the most beloved animated TV shows ever.
To mark the release of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, we're taking a look at how each of these shows compares based on their respective Rotten Tomatoes scores. There are no "Rotten" titles but where each of these sits is bound to be a point of contention.

Brown, played N’Jobu in the first Black Panther film. He was the father of Michael B. Jordan’s N’Jadaka and uncle of Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa. He appeared in a flashback scene in the film.

Michelle Yeoh's Hollywood debut was Tomorrow Never Dies, the film that marked a milestone for her career. The actor explains why she passed on a chance to reprise her role in a James Bond sequel.
Michelle Yeoh would have been the third Bond Girl to reprise her role in the franchise (Eunice Gayson and Lea Seydoux each appeared in two James Bond films). Yeoh played agent Wai Lin in Tomorrow Never Dies and was offered to return in Die Another Day; she declined due to scheduling conflicts. "I was asked one time, to come back to do a cameo," she told Radio Times. "But unfortunately I was filming, I was producing my own movie. Sometimes life throws tough choices at you."

Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars look set to be vastly bigger than even 2019's Avengers: Endgame. The ramifications for the wider MCU will be huge, with the former likely to end with the creation of Battleworld and the latter supposedly meant to reboot the franchise.

Back in the 1970s, the world was very different than the one that we are currently living in. Racist stereotypes were often cheered and people were expected to behave a certain way due to the stereotypes surrounding them, but no one seemed to mind it.

When Guardians of the Galaxy debuted in 2014, it was a breath of fresh air for the MCU, but years later certain aspects have not stood the test of time. James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy depicted the eponymous team’s adventures in the MCU timeline. Its irreverent humor, stellar soundtrack, and colorful characters made it an instant fan favorite. However, as time has passed and audience expectations have evolved, certain elements of the Guardians trilogy haven’t aged as gracefully as others.
The first Guardians of the Galaxy movie is widely considered one of the MCU’s best movies to date. It took a group of obscure Marvel characters and turned them into household names. The combination of retro aesthetics, heartfelt storytelling, and ensemble cast dynamics propelled the films to massive critical and commercial success. It was promptly followed by two sequels. However, as with any cultural phenomenon,...

Filmmaker James Gunn was one of the freshest voices to come out of the indie scene when he helmed the runaway MCU hit Guardians of the Galaxy. With his signature humor and unique vision for films, Gunn delivered blockbusters not just in the Marvel universe but also with The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.
His work on the two films got him the job of co-chief of DC Studios with his producing partner Peter Safran. As the head of the Dcu, Gunn has been crafting the direction of the rebooted franchise, beginning with the Max animated show Creature Commandos, which he wrote, and the upcoming film Superman.

Eternals created an issue for a Marvel Cinematic Universe villain who debuted eight years ago, yet a clever theory rectifies these problems. By the time of Eternals' cliffhanger ending, the film had established a more cosmic side of the MCU by introducing the Celestials. The many MCU Celestials were expected to play a bigger role in the franchise than they admittedly have, with Eternals' lackluster critical reception causing Marvel Studios to pivot away from the giant cosmic entities. Now, upcoming Marvel movies will focus on villains like Doctor Doom rather than Arishem and the other Celestials.
Interestingly, though, a Celestial was introduced to the MCU long before Eternals. One of the McU's strongest villains was dubbed a Celestial, yet was not linked to Eternals in any way. As such, Eternals' release caused somewhat of a continuity issue with this MCU villain as their story clashed with the reveal of the...

The Avengers roster is still unconfirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, but Marvel needs to consider bringing back a powerful Phase 5 hero who deserves a larger role. So many new characters have been introduced since Avengers: Endgame and the Avengers roster is uncertain after Black Widow and Iron Man's deaths, and Steve Rogers' retirement. Marvel has confirmed that The Fantastic Four will as part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast after their 2025 film, but many characters remain on the table.
Some likely candidates for the team include veterans like Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Captain Marvel, and Captain America, along with newcomers such as Shang-Chi and Ms. Marvel. Marvel introduced many new characters in Phases 4 and 5, and an Avengers project provides an opportunity to bring back many of them if they're not getting another solo project. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of powerful characters, though not all of them are celebrated for their strength by the fanbase as much as they should be. Many characters are often unfairly left out of the never-ending conversation for the MCU’s strongest heroes, whether due to a lack of awareness or being in too many losing fights. Some characters in the franchise are measurably more powerful than they might seem at first glance.
There are several factors at play that might obscure the true strength behind many of Marvel Studios' beloved characters. Some have subtle powers that aren't given enough time to shine in the limited screen time they're given, falling by the wayside in the busy cinematic universe. Others only grow into a powerful force over a longer amount of time, coming into their own as top tier superheroes in the latter stages of their personal journeys.

My favorite animated film of 2024, The Wild Robot, is getting a streaming release on Peacock on Friday, January 24, 2025. Imagine Matthew McConaughey as Bruce Banner. The guy who crushed it in Magic Mike and won an Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club almost played the Hulk. But Marvel didn’t have it. He spilled the rejection on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, saying, “Wanted it.” He threw his hat in the ring, but Marvel passed with a “No, thank you.” Ouch.
By the time the MCU hit, McConaughey was at the top of his game—A Time to Kill, rom-coms, then the “McConaissance” in Magic Mike, Killer Joe, and Interstellar. With superhero films everywhere, he thought, why not him?
McConaughey’s love for the Hulk goes back to the classic The Incredible Hulk TV show. So when Marvel was casting, he figured he was the guy. But nope. Marvel went with Edward Norton in The Incredible Hulk (2008), and by The Avengers (2012), Mark Ruffalo was the one smashing it.

Idris Elba McConaughey Young Odin (Photo Credit – Instagram/Facebook)
So, here’s a fun throwback: Idris Elba once pitched Matthew McConaughey as the perfect young Odin for the MCU. Yep, Thor’s dad. Elba, who killed it as Heimdall in the Thor movies, was all in on the idea after working with McConaughey in The Dark Tower. He even said, “He could be Thor’s dad. Play a young version of him. Smash it.” Bold, right?
Now, if you’re thinking, McConaughey as Odin? Seriously?—same here. But let’s not forget, this was post-McConaissance. The man had left his rom-com era in the dust and was straight-up slaying in Dallas Buyers Club, Interstellar, and True Detective. By then, McConaughey wasn’t just back in the A-list club—he was running the show. Marvel even tried to reel him in for Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

James Gunn wanted to add a crucial Gamora moment in Avengers: Infinity War ( Photo Credit – Flickr )
“I begged them to have that kiss in the movie, because it was necessary to really cement their relationship,” James Gunn revealed in an interview with The New York Times.
It wasn’t just a smooch; it was about making their relationship official. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 laid the foundation, but Infinity War needed that kiss to show the couple was no longer just flirty banter – they were a thing. James wasn’t focused on the kiss itself; he was focused on making sure the couple was cemented before the heartbreaking hammer dropped.
And boy, did it drop. Gamora’s (Zoe Saldana) death hit hard, especially after that kiss. Her death at Thanos’ hands was a blow to the chest for fans. Gunn had already played with the idea of killing her off in Vol.

The MCU has created unique superpowers with no comic book precedent for some of its characters. Superhuman abilities and sci-fi technology have evolved a lot throughout the McU's history. Phase 1 launched the MCU with an armored millionaire, a Gamma monster, a Super Soldier, and a Norse god, and Phase 3 ended with Avengers: Endgame's dozens of wildly different characters from all corners of the universe, including sorcerers, witches, aliens, and monsters. Tony Stark's Iron Man armors alone displayed an incredible evolution, from a pile of scraps to state-of-the-art nanotechnology.
The MCU has generally been pretty faithful to the source material when it comes to superpowers. Even difficult abilities to explain on screen, like Scarlet Witch's Chaos magic and Vision's density-shifting powers, or outlandish abilities like Ant-Man's size-shifting suit, have been translated to live-action as realistically as possible. However, Marvel Studios has also taken creative liberties with several characters' abilities,...

Praised for its relentless pacing and taut direction, the film has become a standout entry in the thriller genre,...

The supporting actor race at last year’s Oscars was a contest between Iron Man and Hulk actors, Robert Downey Jr. for Oppenheimer and Mark Ruffalo for Poor Things, with the former proving victorious. Sterling K. Brown was also in the mix for his liberated portrayal of an openly gay surgeon in American Fiction – he had a small yet pivotal part in Black Panther. Will top tier Marvel Cinematic Universe actors go head-to-head this awards season? There are a number of thespians, who have appeared in MCU content in the past, that have been turning heads for their 2024 performances.
Jude Law sneakily played villainous Yon-Rogg in Captain Marvel, and now the former Oscar nominee headlines as an FBI agent hunting White Supremacists in The Order; his role is reminiscent of Gene Hackman’s unwavering determination in The French Connection; the latter won Best Actor in 1971. While The Order is an undeniable force of a film,...

Universal’s Wicked has been performing well at the box office, even on Christmas Eve, which is usually a quiet time for movies. The film made over $3 million on that day, which marked its 33rd day in theaters.
This has helped the movie break into the top 50 highest-grossing films ever in the U.S. with over $392 million domestically; it has surpassed two major Marvel films — Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Far From Home — and now sits at number 49 on the list. The movie has become a major success, especially in North America, where it resonated with audiences.
However, it hasn’t done as well internationally. This could be due to the source material, the Broadway musical Wicked, not being as well-known in other countries as it is in the U.S. Despite this, Wicked has grossed over $580 million globally, making it one of the biggest hits of the year.

The McU's newest release just explained an unusual mystery surrounding Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 seven years after the movie itself first released. As a franchise that has now existed for close to two decades - and that looks set to continue on for even more - some lingering mysteries showing up in the MCU timeline are perhaps inevitable. Not every release can get a follow-up right after its debut, and some mysteries are created entirely by accident, making them more challenging to solve.
However, this isn't to say the MCU hasn't addressed its fair share of these mysteries over the years, sometimes even explaining things it seemed like they'd never address - with some upcoming Marvel movies like Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* teasing they're about to do the exact same in their stories. However, the franchise's most recent release has managed another example of just that,...

The McU's newest and most intense new power upgrade has left me relieved that one Marvel character is currently dead. 2024 was a fascinating year for the McU's power levels, as the franchise has introduced a range of characters who change the way we can look at this topic, with figures like Cassandra Nova and Death herself changing the landscape of the franchise. However, not every character needs to be a universe-shattering deity-level being - and indeed, some characters arguably work better in the MCU timeline when they're not at this power level.
Marvel's newest release reinforces this idea, as it shows one character at their absolute most powerful, and absolute most threatening - in fact, perhaps a little too threatening. While a power boost is often the most entertaining look we get at Marvel's heroes and villains - as evidenced by moments like Captain America using Mjolnir towards the end of Avengers: Endgame,...

Zoë Saldaña wants to see Star Trek 4 happen soon and feels like it should have happened years ago. While Star Trek has remained consistently on the air through various television series on Paramount+, it has been eight years since the last Star Trek movie hit theaters, marking the longest gap in the franchise's film history. Star Trek 4 has had a lot of starts and stops since it was first announced in 2016. Many fans are wondering if and when the film will happen, a sentiment that seems to be shared by many of the stars.
In an interview with Deadline, Saldaña touched on the status of Star Trek 4. “I wish we were able to do it sooner rather than later," said Saldaña regarding the film's long development cycle. Saldaña jokingly said the cast of the 2009 reboot is starting to get too old to play the parts, saying, "I...
