Plot

Tragedy Girls

Edit

Summaries

  • A twist on the slasher genre, following two death-obsessed teenage girls who use their online show about real-life tragedies to send their small mid-western town into a frenzy, and cement their legacy as modern horror legends.

Synopsis

  • McKayla Hooper and Sadie Cunningham, high school seniors in Rosedale, run a true crime blog called Tragedy Girls. Obsessed with murder and fame, they capture serial killer Lowell Orson Lehmann, but he refuses to help them. They decide to commit murders themselves, using Lehmann as a fall guy. Their friend Craig goes missing, and they try to convince the town there's a serial killer on the loose, but only anger Sheriff Welch. When McKayla's ex-boyfriend Toby gains more Twitter followers, they kill him, and his death is ruled an accident.

Next, they kill cheer leading captain Syl and dismember her to ensure her death is ruled a homicide. At Syl's memorial, firefighter Big Al vows to catch the killer. Lehmann tries to turn McKayla against Sadie, but the girls plot to kill Big Al at the gym. They narrowly succeed, and Jordan reveals he has stolen the serial killer case files from his father.

Mayor Campbell calls an emergency town meeting, and McKayla and Sadie turn the townspeople against local law enforcement. Lehmann escapes and kills Mayor Campbell. Jordan falls out with McKayla and Sadie, stealing McKayla's phone with videos of the murders. Lehmann breaks into the Welch residence and stabs Jordan, but Sheriff Welch saves him. Sadie destroys McKayla's stolen phone.

Two weeks later, Sadie is honored by Welch, ignoring McKayla. At prom, Sadie goes with Jordan, while McKayla teams up with Lehmann. After killing their teacher, McKayla confronts Sadie, revealing they murdered Jordan's mother as children. Jordan tries to flee with Sadie, but they are cornered by Lehmann and McKayla. McKayla kills Lehmann, and the girls reconcile, hanging Jordan and starting a fire that kills 124 prom-goers. Lehmann is blamed for the murders, Welch resigns, and McKayla and Sadie head off to college as if nothing happened.
