Too little too play with

The antagonist was too easy thanks to the camera man. I called it and don't appreciate being right. I have it four stars just because movie making isn't easy. The script wasn't good and far too weak

Whodunnit/horror

Likeable low budget fare that works well within its limits. 9 of the usual teenagers are gathered for a cabin in the woods party when a harmless game turns deadly. The cast play up the usual stereotypes instead of taking them seriously which leads to quite a witty and amusing first 20 minutes before the action begins. Standard enough from there but this smartly keeps things short and moving fastly. Acting/script a bit below par at times but nothing too bad. Overall if you are looking for something short, sharp that you don't have to think about this is a good fit.

Who's next(?)

When a game is not a game anymore, the consequences are real. The reason this happens? Ah well, better not ask, better not care. Overall this was refreshingly short. I did not bother to read all the praises on the cover of the disc, because it was clear what I was going to watch. I didn't expect too much and the movie overall kind of "delivered".

There is some blood and the violence is depicted quite nicely for a low budget movie. But it is not the selling point I reckon. But as I mentioned, do not hold your breath for the resolution. You'll find it to be quite weak and shallow to say the least. But you should be able to guess - well let's call it predictable

Better than the rating suggests

The only other review has this movie at a 1. It definitely does not deserve that. If you are a horror fan and/or a who done it fan you will probably like this. Is the acting Oscar winning? No...But does it keep your interest and have some decent gore? Yes...Besides a few dull moments this is a hidden gem on Amazon Prime. Check it out if you get the chance.

Better than the other reviews say it is

Good movie all around, has people drinking and partying. Some cussing, kissing, no nudity. Lots of blood and some gory moments. Kids and I really enjoyed it, not the best but far from the worst.

Oh! It's You

The "Oh! It's you" 80s horror trope got annoying fast (SEE: mainly, Happy Birthday to Me,) but my horror-friend at work and I love to say it to each other all the time, followed by laughter.

No spoiler, although...this movie begins with a version of that phrase and then dives right into a fun and funny weekend getaway beginning 12 hours earlier. Nothing original yet, but the party at this cabin in the woods felt real and I was totally invested in the characters. These actors truly portrayed old and new "friends."

Then, as with the night, it gets dark and darker once the Movie's Title comes into play.

One thing bad with streaming movies and me, I get distracted and distracted bad. In fact, I must've seen this incredibly short 80-minute movie 3-4x all the way through with starts, restarts, pausing, refreshing over a course of 3 days. And yet, when they explain the rules of Movie's Title (a scene I probably saw 4x) I still don't get it. Eh, it's just an excuse for the gang to avoid playing PlayStation 2 and wander around in the dark so Oh! It's You can hunt them down for real.

I liked the movie despite the shift in tone from a fun and witty opening (which was better than the actual plot.) The ending might be laughable to some, but I gave it a pass. Or passes? Saw that a few times. And it was wildly predictable.

So, when I said in the beginning "No spoiler, although..." in reference to the Oh! It's You killer, it totally gave it away to me. That wasn't much of a surprise, especially with their weak ways to red herring us.

Still, it's genuine up front, brutal for horror fans following and yeah, I did like the ending. It certainly swayed from most of these kinds of movies. Definitely recommended.

***

Final thoughts: One of my distractions, in the opening, I thought this was going to be a horror-comedy. So, my mind wandered into making a top ten best horror-comedy list off the top of my head and without research. This movie wouldn't fall under it, since it never ended up being a comedy, and this list is irrelevant to this film...but since, I took the time to make it...

Top Ten Best Horror-Comedies:

10. Planet Terror 9. Bride of Chucky 8. Young Frankenstein 7. The Babysitter 6. Shaun of the Dead 5. Tucker & Dale vs. Evil 4. The Cabin in the Woods 3. The Final Girls 2. Scary Movie 1. Student Bodies

Not as bad as the know-it-all reviewers say.

Short and sweet.

There is nothing prophetic or Uber original about this film. Bunch of kids up at a cabin in the woods, yada yada yada.

But, I enjoyed the (short) run time of about 75 minutes. The reviewers panning this all have similar issues:
  • they say it has nothing new to offer, then
  • they compare it to other films, then
  • they take issue with the acting, or direction, or some other facet...as if they could do it better.

So yeh. There's nothing really new to the genre. But who cares? If every film that didn't offer something new was the sole reason for disliking a movie, then it would be a bummer of an existence. Sometimes 75-90 minutes of escapist horror is just what the doctor ordered!

Comparing films to random others is my pet peeve. Why? Unless you want to show off your tremendous wealth of knowledge, the only time comparing films works is when there is a red thread (eg same director, same actors, sequel, etc). Otherwise, there is simply no basis for comparison, and personally, it makes people appear ignorant if they can't understand that fact.

Taking issue with specific facets of a film is the most rational explanation for disliking a movie, and while this was not an Oscar worthy horror, it was definitely not worthy of any hate. The acting was average to good (for a big budget film), as was every other facet in Dead Body.

Do yourself a favor and watch this if you enjoy this type of horror - slasheresque, cabin in the woods, mystery who dunnit kinda thing. You will likely not regret it, especially considering that it is a (quick) 75 minutes run time.

Parental content:
  • there is a fair amount of profanity. They're high school graduates for crying out loud.
  • no real nudity, but plenty of sexual innuendo and discussion about sex, as well as the sounds of a couple doing the deed.
  • some intensity and jump scares, but not what I would consider a scary movie, per se.
  • alcohol and cigarette use, one scene of drug use, and discussion of drugs.
  • there is a fair amount of bloody violence and a couple of moderately gory scenes. Nothing over the top, but more than just slit throats and other common kill devices. Two scenes in particular that might make folks with light constitutions a bit queezy, and couple lesser scenes that offer some decent on-screen blood and ick. Definitely not a gore flick, but a couple of good scenes for those who enjoy that.

I could have easily given this a 6, but went with the 7 for no real reason other than it could have gone either way, as both ratings (for me) signify an average to above average film. And besides...it was enjoyable.

Wasn't Oscar winning, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Fun little movie to watch if you get a chance. The acting wasn't amazing, and I guessed who the killer was like 10 minutes into the movie, but there was some good gore effects, and it was fun to watch. Definitely doesn't deserve to be rated so poorly.

Watchable for what it is.

Entertaining bad horror film. The whole plot of what person is killing their friends is over played and the conclusion of why is really bad. If you are in the mood for decent kills and blood its worth a look.

What annoying play ._.

The movie already starts wrong, show us what will happen in some time on the movie, and after that starts normally, with cliches characters and bad actors, and with time you understand that doesn't have a story, so let's go start a (strange) game, and (super fake) bad real deaths appears, so they try to find who is the killer, but everything is too weak, although the plot twist been almost good, and some deaths been well done, this don't save the movie, so you just hope that the game/movie over as soon as possible.

Better Than Average.

I was pleasantly surprised by this film. While obviously on the lower side when it comes to budget, this movie has its feet firmly planted in the 80's. You could do much worse when watching on Amazon Prime for free..

Typical who's the killer

This was a decent enough film. It's nothing new and it's been done 100 times before but an okay watch. I rated it a 4 because it's obvious from the beginning of the game who the killer is. If you've watched enough horror, it shouldn't take you long to figure that out. It has the same old kill scenes you've seen time and time again. They attempt to try to throw you off with fingers pointing at everyone else but again it's completely obvious who the villain is. There wasn't depth to any of the characters. The set was done well but again, I couldn't get past the the big reveal and surprise! It's exactly who you thought it was.

Fun Murder Mystery

I'm not sure why this movie is rated so low. Horror movies in general tend to be rated lower than other genres and that's something I will never understand.

Dead Body is an interesting, tension-filled, slasher meets murder mystery. It has an interesting premise for a plot in the form of a game that becomes real. The fun part of this movie is in the guessing of the murderer and your guesses will constantly change as the movie goes on. Admittedly, even though I correctly guessed who the murderer was, it was a twist not many people would see coming and I was still doubting my predictions up to the very end.

If you want to see a slasher that's a cut above the usual, give it a watch.

Slasher Whodunnit

A single location slasher murder mystery in the vein of the classic Clue. A group of friends spend the night at a cabin in the woods but when a parlour game turns serious and the bodies stay to pile up you'll be puzzling along with the characters to work out well the killer is and why.

Deserves better rating

Good effort, nice idea. Could be better, yes. The plot was original, but predictable. Should've worked on that. Other than that, good camera, editting, acting, etc.

"No! No! No! No! I Found Him Like This!"...

In DEAD BODY, a weekend in a deep-woods cabin, playing the titular game, turns into a nightmare of paranoia and murder. Someone in the group of players has taken the game literally, plunging everything into chaos and panic.

Then, the lights go out.

A very good horror / mystery / thriller film, it boasts some disturbing -practical FX!- death sequences.

Doubt everything. Suspect everyone.

Gruesome, grueling entertainment from start to finish...
