The House With A Clock In Its Walls Trailer Is An Enchanting And Frightful Delight
When author John Bellairs first delivered the elevator pitch for his 1973 novel, The House With a Clock in its Walls, the genre mash-up was hailed as something of a gothic horror story designed specifically with child readers in mind.

And nowhere is this family-friendly plot more apparent than in the spooky first trailer for Universal’s big-screen adaptation, which comes to us by way of Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Hostel) and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment – therein lies the intersection between shock horror and light-heartened fun for the whole family.

In saying that, you’d be forgiven for thinking that The House With a Clock in its Walls was actually Guillermo del Toro’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning efforts on The Shape of Water. Starring Jack Black (Goosebumps) and Cate Blanchett (Thor: Ragnarok), Eli Roth’s delightful adaptation tells the story of a young, recently-orphaned boy, played by Owen Vaccaro,...

[Trailer] Eli Roth Delivers Kid Friendly Horrors in ‘The House with a Clock in Its Walls’
Nadine Crocker and Samuel Davis in Cabin Fever (2016)
“There’s a clock in the walls. We don’t know what it does… something horrible.” With films like Cabin Fever, Hostel and The Green Inferno, Eli Roth sure hasn’t established himself as a family-friendly filmmaker, but he stepped outside his comfort zone with this year’s Death Wish and he’s doing the same for his seventh feature. […]...

Movies New to Netflix in April: ‘Seven,’ ‘The Iron Giant,’ ‘Scarface’ and More
April showers might bring May flowers, but what to do during the rainy season? Why, modern movie-lover does when the weather outside is frightful, curl up with some Netflix. (Maybe get some chill in there, if you’re lucky). While not the most romantic of movies, classic crime lovers can enjoy Brian De Palma’s “Scarface,” which lands on the platform next month. After you get your fix of an infinitely quotable and smoldering Al Pacino, you can jump ahead to the equally as disturbing David Fincher classic, “Seven.”

A few tear-jerking Oscar winners also head to Netflix in April, including the Nicole Kidman, Renée Zellweger-starring “Cold Mountain,” and Roberto Benigni’s WWII drama “Life Is Beautiful.” For lighter fare, check out “The Iron Giant,” or both live-action “The Flinstones” movies (for my Rosie O’Donnell die-hards).

Hopefully, that’s enough to keep you busy until May. Check out...

Death Wish Remake Review: Bruce Willis Serves Cold, Bloody Leftovers
Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, and Eli Roth in La Prophétie de l'horloge (2018)
Eli Roth's remake of the classic vigilante film Death Wish is surprising in several ways. The film is graphically violent, but thankfully devoid of the horrific rape scenes that made the original series so jarring. The script by Joe Carnahan (The A-Team,The Grey) takes a critical view of the gun crimes epidemic sweeping the nation. The update of the setting to Chicago is the perfect environment to address the scourge. The problem is that Roth and Carnahan bring up the issue, but they don't make any effort to answer it. The result is that Death Wish languishes. Eli Roth has delivered something that is really no different than a standard, bloody action flick. Some parts are devastating, others funny, but the overall film lacks the punch of the original.

Bruce Willis stars as Paul Kersey, a wealthy Chicago surgeon with an idyllic life. He has a beautiful wife...

The upcoming animated Spider-Man movie has its directors confirmed - and it'll centre on Miles Morales as Spider-Man...

It's official! Miles Morales will be the webslinger in Sony's upcoming Spider-Man animated movie. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are writing the treatment and producing the film. Miles Morales is the second Spider-Man of Marvel's Ultimate universe, who picked up the legacy from Peter Parker. Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, he first came on the scene in 2011, and has recently been integrated into the Marvel Universe proper. While some of his powers are similar to the classic Spidey's, he's also got a powerful 'sting' and camoflauge abilities in his arsenal,...

Spider-Man Animated Movie Casting Call Confirms Miles Morales?
Miles Morales
There is new hope for the Spider-Man franchise following the failed Amazing Spider-Man reboot at Sony. Now, with Marvel Studios in control, Tom Holland is set to reprise his role as the webslinger from Captain America: Civil War in Spider-Man: Homecoming next year. As much excitement as there is, there is maybe just as much disappointment, because many fans wanted to see the Miles Morales version of Spider-Man on the big screen. Well, it turns out those fans may still be in luck.

Even though the live-action version of Spider-Man is going to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity, Sony is planning a separate Spider-Man Animated Movie that is set to be released in 2018. A new casting call from Backstage seems to imply that this animated Spider-Man movie will follow Miles Morales and not Peter Parker. Here are a couple of character descriptions from the casting call that...

9 Horror Movie Sequels And Reboots Due In 2016
The Weinstein Company

Only a pessimist would write off 2016 after 6 weeks, but if you’re a horror fan, the year’s highest profile releases don’t inspire much confidence. Once again, sequels and reboots look set to dominate multiplexes, or if they don’t float your boat there’s always an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Cell. Yippee.

On VOD, things aren’t much better. Released on 12 February, Travis Zariwny’s remake of Cabin Fever (2002) currently holds a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was dismissed by the Los Angeles Times as “perfunctory and insipid.” Variety called it a “repurposed dud” while Nick Allen said it was “one of those questionably greedy, Xeroxed remakes, where its business is in restating, not just restarting or rebooting, what the original has done.”

Nobody believes that these films are going to be good, so pointing out that they’re not up to much feels like a redundancy.
