Shawshank Redemption - Hardcore edition

Always avoided this movie, found it too depressing, but finally I couldn't escape and gave it a try.

This movie grows on you as it captures all the hardship that humans faced during the construction of the Danube-Black Sea Canal. Even though they were prisoners, they did not commit the same level of crimes, for instance, people who wrote direct thoughts were treated like thieves and criminals. It shows how oppressed was the freedom of speech, also its power to change.

At some level, this kind of slavery and treatment occurs in the present, in a more subtle way than in this movie.

Regardless, avoid going to prison at any cost.
