The Emmy Awards are just one "whyyyyy?" after another. Nothing about this award show makes a lick of sense. Why does it take itself so seriously? Why are the categories so random? (As host Andy Samberg said, "Orange Is the New Black is now officially a drama and Louie is officially jazz.") Why didn't Broad City get nominated? Did the voters get their wisdom teeth pulled every day this year? Peg me gently with a chainsaw! In our golden age for award shows, not to mention for TV, why are...

Stephen Merchant on 'Hello Ladies: The Movie' and competing with pal Ricky Gervais (Exclusive Video)
While Stephen Merchant is delighted with the two Emmy nominations for “Hello Ladies: The Movie” (Best TV Movie, Best Movie/Mini Writing), he is disappointed that his pal Ricky Gervais is only nominated for Best Movie/Mini Actor for the “Derek” special. That means that the co-creators of the original version of "The Office" won’t be going head-to-head in any categories. During our recent webcam chat (watch below), Merchant vividly recalls the 2007 BAFTAs: “We were both nominated in the same category and he won. Unexpectedly they asked me to collect it on the night. Suddenly I’ve got to go up there and make an impromptu speech on his behalf for an award I was nominated for." -Break- Click here to see the updated list of all 2015 Emmy episode submissions To make this telefilm that concludes the story that he began in his HBO series last year, Merchant drew on his “expe.

Give the Emmys credit for at least trying to keep up with the current explosion of quality television.
This year, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences expanded the Best Comedy and Drama Series categories to seven slots each, and they made other minor changes (online voting!) meant to bring the awards into the 21st century. Still, there's more good TV now than even the Academy can keep up with, so the outrage and shock over the snubs and surprises in this morning's Emmy nominations is inevitable. Here are some of the most astonishing omissions and inclusions.
Best Drama Series
The biggest shocker here is the snub of "Empire," the season's breakout hit. Was it too soapy or guilty-pleasure-ish for the Academy to take seriously? Fellow newbie/Twitter sensation "How to Get Away With Murder" was also snubbed. Golden Globe fave "The Affair" got no love, here or in other major categories.

Anyone watching the ratings for their favorite new shows will remember that HBO’s Hello Ladies from Stephen Merchant wasn’t doing so well. While I enjoyed the first season, I had already come to terms with the idea of never seeing it return. Thankfully, all good things deserve a final chapter, and that’s what the show is going to get.
The eight-episode season of “Hello Ladies,” which debuted on HBO in Sept. 2013, tells the story of Stuart, a gawky 6’7” English transplant seeking excitement and romance in Los Angeles. Searching for the woman of his dreams amidst the city’s dazzling nightlife, Stuart’s romantic aspirations far outstretch his looks or appeal. Half as charming – and twice as desperate – as he thinks he is, he’s obsessed with infiltrating the glamorous world of beautiful people, who won’t let him in.
