"Stargate Atlantis" didn't last as long as "Stargate Sg-1," the original show from which it was spun, but it did manage a full five seasons between 2004 and 2009. Still, when "Atlantis" was canceled by the Sci-Fi channel, fans were let down. The show simply didn't have a chance to wrap things up in a satisfying way, and a planned "Stargate Atlantis" film was not ultimately abandoned too. Unfortunately, there was simply no getting around the fact that escalating budgets and a global recession made any sort of "Atlantis" continuation an impossibility.
The Sci-Fi channel sort of made things worse by cancelling "Atlantis" and green-lighting a new show, "Stargate Universe," which only lasted two seasons in the end. As such, fans were dismayed to say the least. But it wasn't just "Atlantis" adherents that wanted more from their favorite show. One actor, who played six different versions of the show's Wraith Queens throughout the first four seasons,...

Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced with a trailer all the way back in 2019 and very little has been revealed by Team Cherry since. After the slow-burning success of the original Hollow Knight in 2017, the title has become one of the most recognizable faces of the indie game scene. It also helped with a renaissance of the Metroidvania genre, spawning dozens of Hollow Knight clones that have tried to capture the essence of a proper sequel, but no one can quite do it the same way Team Cherry did in 2017.
Still, despite how brilliant the game ended up being, and how revolutionary it was for the Metroidvania genre, Hollow Knight didn't release as the game that Team Cherry originally intended it to be. Its development is both well-documented and a fascinating yet rocky story that began with a game jam project called Hungry Knight, which actually had the original design for the Knight in it.

Alien: Romulus is the number one movie this weekend and estimates have it at $41.5M, the second highest opening ever in the 45-year old franchise, and a global take of $108.2 million (Deadline).
Audiences have been frightened, compelled, and thoroughly scared out of their wits.
“My ambition is for the generation who saw the original movie to love this film and for those who have never seen an ‘Alien’ movie to be introduced to this incredible universe through our film,” says director/co-screenwriter/executive producer Fede Alvarez. “With any horror movie, you want the people to be terrified and have an experience that leaves them breathless.”

The score for “Alien: Romulus” is coming to digital platforms, to be followed by a physical release in November.
Composed by Benjamin Wallfisch, the music for the Fede Álvarez film — which takes place between the events of Ridley Scott’s 1979 “Alien” and James Cameron’s 1986 “Aliens” — arrives digitally on August 16. Golden Globe and Grammy-nominated Wallfisch drew upon the well-known scores for those two films from Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner, as well as Marc Streitenfeld’s music for Scott’s 2012 prequel “Prometheus.”
The digital release includes 20 cues. The vinyl edition, to be released by Mutant on November 15, features alternate artwork and six bonus tracks. It’s available for pre-order Friday, August 16. Check out the cover art below:
After composing the scores for “Annabelle: Creation,” “Blade Runner 2049” and “Twisters” just this year, Wallfisch has established a pedigree for absorbing themes from famous films series and lovingly reimagining them for new chapters.

Ten years after “The L Word’s” cancellation, Jennifer Beals is ready to make her return as the ever-so-professional Bette Porter. She’ll not only star in the continued story, but she’ll also executive produce alongside original co-stars Leisha Hailey and Katherine Moennig, and creator Ilene Chaiken.
Beals has been hard at work in front of and behind the camera. In addition to the highly anticipated show’s premiere, Beals has made headlines recently for her work as an executive producer on “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” as well as her book “The Hive.”
Her first mention in Variety was on Oct. 20, 1982, for her star-making role as Alex Owens in “Flashdance.”
Have you seen your first mention in Variety?
Can I be honest? I had never seen it before and it’s because I was at a point in my life where I didn’t even have a career.

The universe of the Men In Black expands this year with the franchise’s first spin-off, Mib: International. The fourth Mib movie sends the ambitious newcomer Agent M (Tessa Thompson) and the goofy ass-kicker Agent H (Chris Hemsworth) on a globe-trotting mission to stop The Hive: a dangerous race of shapeshifting aliens that conquer every world they come across.
But like the vast and mysterious universe that the franchise is set in, the Men in Black’s return to cinemas leaves a lot of unanswered questions in its wake. While the spin-off movie’s plot is straightforward and easy to follow, it still leaves a lot of details and implications unaccounted for. Here are just 10 questions that Mib: International doesn’t address, whether accidentally or otherwise.

“Men in Black: International,” Sony’s reboot of the ’90s Will Smith sci-fi comedy franchise, earned $3.1 million in its Thursday box office previews starting at 4 p.m. from 3,472 locations. It opens on over 4,200 screens this weekend.
“Thor: Ragnarok” stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are putting on their best black suits and sunglasses as they hope to keep the franchise alive despite the absence of mainstays Smith and Tommy Lee Jones across the three films dating back to 1997.
It’s a big risk for Sony, which is projecting a $30 million opening opposite a $110 million budget, which is still less than half the previous “Mib” film’s budget. Independent trackers say the film could go as high as $35-40 million. However, all three previous “Men in Black” films managed to open in the low $50 million range. A good comparison is Sony’s own reboot of “Ghostbusters” from 2016. That film opened to...

The M.O. of familiarity, convention and rushing-to-get-started desperation in “Men in Black: International” is made abundantly clear from the opening credits and an opening 20 minutes that feels like a frantic car chase and collision. Beginning with the familiar chalkboard-style franchise font, instead of introducing anyone, it only details the production companies and the title before elevator-slam-dropping you, in media res, into a clunky and noisy prologue with Agents H (Chris Hemsworth) and T (Liam Neeson) fighting an advanced alien race called The Hive.

Director David Yarovesky’s obsession with horror movies puts a unique spin on Brightburn.
While James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) is the big filmmaking name on the new superhero/horror hybrid Brightburn -- he produced the picture, which was written by his brother Mark and cousin Brian -- the person actually behind the camera on the movie is director David Yarovesky. A longtime friend of Gunn’s, Yarovesky cut his teeth on videos, commercials and short films before making his feature writing and directing debut with the micro-budget horror movie The Hive.
Yarovesky is still working with a relatively modest budget on Brightburn, but that’s part of the movie’s charm: in many ways it’s a bit of a throwback to the sort of mid-level horror sleepers that dominated the late 1970s and 1980s. The movie stars Elizabeth Banks and David Denman as a...

What if Superman was not a benevolent hero, but an evil being with no regard for human life? BrightBurn takes the classic origin story and gives it a fairly entertaining horror, sci-fi spin. The film is produced by Guardians of the Galaxy creator James Gunn and written by his brothers, Mark and Brian Gunn. Their clever premise is used strategically to overcome several shortcomings. The end result is a dark, lean film with bursts of horrific violence and gore. Brightburn doesn't fully maximize its potential, but is good enough to be a crowd-pleaser.

What if baby Superman crashed onto the Earth and turned out to be an evil bastard instead of a do-gooder? That’s the idea behind Brightburn, a horrorshow that doesn’t have a clue about what to do with a clever premise. Produced by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), who unfortunately left the screenwriting to his less-talented brother Brian and their cousin Mark — it’s not a good day for nepotism — this superhero/scary movie mash-up never catches fire. Director David Yarovesky (The Hive) doesn’t just demand audiences to suspend disbelief.

Originally announced as an “untitled James Gunn horror project,” shrouded in mystery, and then finding itself caught in the crosshairs of the filmmaker’s controversial firing from the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” by Disney (since re-hired), the dark, deconstructive superhero film, “Brightburn” has been through the wringer on its way to the screen. Actually directed by frequent Gunn family collaborator David Yarovesky (“The Hive”), it’s a shame all this baggage hangs over “Brightburn” because the film is a gem, especially for anyone yearning for a superhero film that gleefully torches the familiar “good versus evil” formula and introduces far more sinister sensibilities.

“Superman” meets “The Omen” in “Brightburn,” a watchable but super-silly mix of superheroics and evil-child horror that mashes together singularly uninspired ideas from both. Offering R-rated fantasy competition to “Aladdin” this Memorial Day weekend, it should do Ok with undiscriminating audiences seeking familiar, forgettable genre thrills. But the franchise prayers that an open-ended fadeout dangles seem unlikely to be answered, unless they’re heard in the realm of cheaper, direct-to-streaming sequels.
Not that this hopeful kickoff is exactly deluxe, though it does rep a modest budgetary leap from helmer David Yarovesky’s prior feature, 2014 sci-fi horror “The Hive.” The advertising for “Brightburn” prominently bills James Gunn, “visionary filmmaker behind ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’” That it turns out he’s just a producer here (relatives Brian and Mark Gunn are the scenarists) may lead to some annoyance among those expecting more than B-movie-level spectacle.

Sony Pictures has released the final trailer for BrightBurn. This comes from producer James Gunn, the filmmaker behind the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. In this instance, he's taking on a character that has a lot of Superman-like qualities. Only this movie is posing the question, what if a superpowered alien being like Superman decided to be evil instead of a force for good? It's a question that has nothing but horrific answers, based on this final trailer.
This trailer, though relatively short, is easily the most terrifying of the bunch. This one really plays up the horror on display and showcases the hopelessness that would come along with just such a situation. Humanity isn't prepared to fight a being with Superman levels of strength and power. We're left to beg, plead and fight ever so hopelessly, armed with nothing more than guns and sheer terror. Even a mother's love...

After the firing (and since rehiring), of director James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy 3, his writer brother Brian and cousin Mark Gunn crafted this dark Superman-like origin/ spin with Jg on board as producer. In many ways, Brightburn could be interpreted as a twisted manifestation of Gunn’s burnt feelings for superhero cinema after the Disney debacle. With his family writing and director David Yarovesky (The Hive) behind the mic, Brightburn sears like a great flaming bird flip: a sit, swivel and spin on superhero franchises, crafted with an energy, ironic venom and flair to make it timely, fun and electrifying.
The film starts in Brightburn, Kansas, on the farm of thirty-something married couple Tori and Kyle Breyer (Elizabeth Banks and David Denman), who have been trying for a while to fall pregnant. Cue the mammoth fiery meteorite/ space capsule (conveniently carrying a baby) that comes crashing down into the forest near their farm.

Sony Pictures has released a brand new clip from BrightBurn. Last year, we got word that Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn was producing a very mysterious horror movie of sorts. Eventually, we found out this little project of his is actually a horrific take on a Superman-esque character that essentially asks, what if Superman was evil instead of good? This clip on its own is enough to make anyone wonder just how bad such a situation could get, and it's not for the squeamish.
The clip sees the kid in question who is clearly discovering that he actually has some powers that people don't have. We see an overturned lawnmower, blades still running at full speed. The kid slowly approaches the lawnmower and, without any dialogue, it's clear what he's thinking; "what happens if I put my hand in it?" Not to spoil it, but there are surely...

James Gunn has returned to Twitter in order to help promote his latest movie, Brightburn. The filmmaker behind Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has been largely absent from social media ever since he was fired from directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 last summer. However, Marvel and Disney recently decided to rehire him as director of the project and that has resulted in Gunn making more of a return to the public eye, which has continued with this latest poster and trailer reveal.
First up, James Gunn revealed a brand new poster for Brightburn, which has been positioned as an extremely dark take on a Superman-esque origin story. While they can't actually put it in the DC universe, it's essentially asking the question, what if that very same alien who crash-landed on Earth turned evil instead of a force for good? From The X-Files to The Umbrella Academy, geek TV keeps returning to the assassination of Us President John F. Kennedy...
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
Those of you who have been watching The Umbrella Academy know that a key scene takes place at the grassy knoll overlooking Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas, November 22nd, 1963. The assassination of President John F. Kennedy was a watershed moment in American politics and a major news story around the world, so it’s perhaps no surprise that it’s even more irresistible to time travellers and conspiracy theorists than attempts to kill Hitler or aliens at Roswell.
We won’t spoil the events of The Umbrella Academy for those of you yet to watch it (though we urge you to do so – it’s quirkily brilliant). However, we do want to point out that, with all the secret...

Prepare for potential zombie dogs, Netflix users, because a Resident Evil series is reportedly in development at the streaming service.
Deadline reports that a "scripted series" based on the Resident Evil franchise is in the works at Constantin Film, with the series planned to be a "Netflix global original."
According to Deadline, the Resident Evil series "will explore the dark inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus." The potential show would also "expand the Resident Evil universe and deepen the exiting mythology." Details on the showrunner, writer, director, and cast have yet to be revealed.
Capcom's Resident Evil video game franchise kicked off in 1996, and a new version of Resident Evil 2 was just released, taking gamers back into the zombie-infested streets of Raccoon City.

James Gunn's superhero/horror mashup, Brightburn, puts a terrifying twist on a familiar superhero origin trope.
You ever wonder what life would be like if Clark Kent weren't such a nice guy? Apparently so has director James Gunn.
Brightburn was announced as an "untitled James Gunn horror project" earlier this year, shortly before Gunn was forced out by Disney from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn serves as producer on Brightburn and his name is understandably all over the thing. But the movie is actually directed by David Yarovesky (The Hive), based on a script from Mark and Brian Gunn.
Elizabeth Banks is set to star as the monster superhero boy's mother, which is honestly kind of the role she was born to play...or slay.

James Gunn isn’t returning to the director’s chair just yet, but he is one of the creative minds behind the mysterious new movie “BrightBurn.” Sony Pictures has released the first official trailer for the genre mashup, and it looks like a unique horror spin on what is more or less a traditional superhero origin story.
“BrightBurn” stars Elizabeth Banks and David Denman as a couple who discover a baby boy and raise him as their own. The child happens to be an alien that crash landed to Earth as an infant, similar to Kal-El/Superman. But what if instead of growing up to be a superhero, the alien child turned into something far more evil? That’s the central question at the heart of “BrightBurn.”
Gunn produced the film along with his brothers, Mark Gunn and Brian Gunn, both of whom also wrote the film’s screenplay. “BrightBurn” is directed by David Yarovesky,...

The pair were part of the "Level Six" alliance that dominated most of the game as they challenged the other side of the house, otherwise known as "Foutte" and "The Hive."

Congratulations, Rockstar! You finally won something this season — sort of: 37 percent of our readers say you made dumbest move of The Hive on “Big Brother 20.”
We know, it was probably a Sophie’s Choice for many of you. The Hive did so much idiotic stuff this season you had to see to believe; they were like the walking embodiment of “Is this real life?” And really, you couldn’t have scripted Rockstar’s Otev blunder any better. She told Tyler the correct answer for some reason, allowing him to change his answer before Haleigh could find one. Why would you check your answer with the enemy — whose side just secretly put you on the block — instead of with your ally? We may never know. Rockstar had a chance to redeem herself in the final round, returning first with an answer, but ironically she brought back the wrong one, handing the Veto to Tyler.

Either Jc, Kaycee or Tyler will walk away with the $500,000 prize on Wednesday’s “Big Brother 20” finale. But as we all know, who will win and who should win are two completely different things. Sometimes they align, sometimes they don’t, and they definitely don’t on “Big Brother” when a bitter jury is involved. All three finalists have a case to be made for winning, so who would be the most deserving of them all?
Jc
On paper, Jc looks like a classic floater who was dragged to the finale as an easy goat to sit alongside. His comp resume is by far the weakest of the three, with just one victory, but it was a very big one. He won the final four Hoh to ensure a spot in the final three and save himself because he was definitely going to get cut had Level 6 won it. If...

Now that Kaycee hasn’t used the Veto, barring an epic turn of events, Haleigh will walk out the door on Thursday’s “Big Brother 20,” completing Level 6’s clean sweep of sending The Hive members to jury one by one. So it’s another straightforward week, but we do have one thing to look forward to Thursday: the double eviction. Who do you want to follow Haleigh to the jury house?
Whoever goes obviously depends on who wins Hoh, for which everyone is eligible except Kaycee. The houseguests are suspecting a double this week since they haven’t had one yet and they did the math to get to the finale date. Level 6’s initial goal was to get Sam out in the double, which is not a terrible idea but also would be a rather boring double eviction. They were keeping her around as long as Haleigh was there...

Hard to believe, but “Big Brother 20” will be halfway over after this week. But that also means it’s a perfect time to see how your feelings have or haven’t changed about these houseguests since the season began — and who is the frontrunner to win America’s Favorite Houseguest now.
Earlier this summer, Tyler was voted as your favorite player so far. And based on his gameplay and overall easygoing demeanor, he hasn’t done much to fall out of favor in the last month. He’s still the favorite to win the whole thing.
The same, however, cannot be said of Sam, who came in second last month. After charming us all as RoboSam, Human Sam has emerged to be, well, an emotional wild card. Her mood swings and wild rants and confessions haven’t been spotlighted that much on the broadcast show, but she almost self-evicted before...

The blindsides have been a hallmark of “Big Brother 20,” and thanks to them, we haven’t had a unanimous vote yet after seven weeks. But that streak looks very likely to end on Thursday.
After failing to win the Veto, Scottie, who is Faysal‘s target mainly because he wants him to stay away from Haleigh, remains on the block against Kaycee, a pawn Fessy put up after Veto champ Brett took himself off. Scottie, who has been the top suspect of houseguests for multiple vote flips, knew he was toast without the Veto and deployed a strategy not to save himself but Haleigh, to whom he had been getting close. He threw Haleigh under the bus to Fessy, calling her Kaitlyn 2.0, but later confessed to Haleigh that he did it to separate himself from her because he’s a “sinking ship,” and this way she could move forward without being associated with him.

Will The Hive ever do anything right on “Big Brother 20”? There’s a month left in the game, so there’s still time, but it doesn’t look likely. The Hive has made so many moves that are questionable at best and “Wtf are you thinking?!” at worst, like Faysal nominating Scottie, aka one of his two alliance members left, mainly because Jc told him that Scottie was after his girl Haleigh. Unfortunately he did this after we launched our poll asking what is The Hive’s biggest blunder so far, so, for now, 66 percent of you say Rockstar’s tragic Otev performance takes the cake.

James Gunn may not be returning to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but it doesn't look like his career otherwise is going to skip a beat. It's been revealed that the filmmaker has a new Horror Movie scheduled to be released by Sony Pictures' Screen Gems division. Luckily, we're not going to have to wait too long to see it, as the movie is slated for release this November.
Details on the project are pretty scarce right now. The news comes via a recently revealed release schedule from Sony, which includes an untitled James Gunn horror movie set to hit theaters on November 30. The studio has confirmed that the release date is accurate. Beyond that, no more details were divulged. We should expect that some concrete details will be released sooner rather than later, given that this movie will be released in about three months.

No, Beyoncé fans, that's not the Hive we're talking about.
The Hive consisting of Bayleigh and Rockstar (voted out), Faysal, Haleigh, and Scottie has to be one of Big Brother's most ineffective alliances in the history of the series.
At this rate, they have a snowball's chance in hell of winning the game or making it to the end.
Do you want to know the best part? Hive fans know that but still unabashedly root for them anyway. You know what's even better? The Hive knows they're perpetual screwups, too. They even joked about being the "Bad News Bears."
Every week fans watch as the lovable group of losers struggles to rub two brain cells together long enough to formulate a plan.
