Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy) is digging to get to the truth in a Collider-exclusive sneak peek of What We Hide. Today, ahead of the film’s digital and on-demand release later this month, we’re excited to give our readers a taste of the drama that’s to come from the latest project from writer and director Dan Kay (Pay the Ghost). It’s a powerhouse performance in the first look, as not only do we get a chance to see Williams’ character on a quest for the truth, but we also see Mckenna Grace’s (A Friend of the Family) do everything she can to hide it from him.

Sharks aren’t the only threat in Survive, a new shark thriller preemptively acquired by Amazon MGM Studios based on a feature pitch, Deadline reports today.
Screenwriter Ian Levy (Pay the Ghost) will pen the script.
In Survive, “a desperate mother and her 12-year-old daughter attempt to flee from her abusive boyfriend. Their escape turns into a harrowing fight for survival after a highway crash leaves them stranded on a coastal cliff, battling not only the violent man they tried to escape but also a group of sharks circling in the waters below.”
That premise seems to continue the trend established by the recent release Dangerous Animals, which sees a serial killer employ sharks as a weapon for his ritualistic murders. There’s plenty more shark horror on the way, too. Tommy Wirkola’s Shiver swims into theaters next summer, and Hatchet filmmaker Adam Green is returning to the director...

Exclusive: Amazon MGM Studios has preemptively acquired Survive, a shark-themed thriller feature pitch from screenwriter Ian Levy, which was brought in by Premeditated Productions.
In Survive, a desperate mother and her 12-year-old daughter attempt to flee from her abusive boyfriend. Their escape turns into a harrowing fight for survival after a highway crash leaves them stranded on a coastal cliff, battling not only the violent man they tried to escape, but also a group of sharks circling in the waters below.
The scenario here was unusual for Premeditated, a company with a first-look deal at Amazon MGM, which is better known for producing adaptations of existing material from its sister company, Entangled Publishing. Levy will adapt the screenplay, with Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark producing for Premeditated, and Director of Development Cayla Tyne overseeing the project for the company.
For Levy, the sale marks another achievement in a busy year of feature development.

Netflix has acquired the spec script and aims to fast track Out There, a new high concept sci-fi thriller described as in the vein of A Quiet Place and Cloverfield, Deadline reports today.
Out There will mark the veteran editor Stefan Grube.
Plot details remain under wraps at this time, but the sci-fi thriller “revolves around a fractured family who must face the most catastrophic day of their lives.” Which does fall in line with the comparisons to A Quiet Place and Cloverfield. Considering Grube’s work on the suspenseful 10 Cloverfield Lane, we can likely expect that same level of breathless tension here.
Grube’s credits also include Tully, The Front Runner, and Star Wars: Episode IX. As for the spec script that was picked up by Netflix, that hails from Shane Van Dyke, Carey Van Dyke and Ian Levy. The Van Dykes previously wrote Don’t Worry Darling, and Levy scripted Pay the Ghost.

Nicolas Cage's Arcadian earns 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, his second Fresh score in a row. Cage's career has seen long stretches of Rotten scores since 2000, but his 2020s movies are trending positively. With upcoming films like Longlegs and Lords of War, Cage may continue his Fresh streak.
The new Nicolas Cage monster movie Arcadian has continued the star's Rotten Tomatoes redemption. Cage's career is marked by long alternating stretches of Fresh and Rotten scores on the review aggregator service, with huge strings of splats encroaching more and more after 2000. Picking out the best Nicolas Cage movie can be fairly challenging, given the fact that the Hollywood star has starred in a diverse array of films of varying merit. Nothing short of a cultural tour-de-force, Nicolas Cage has managed to acquire a dedicated cult following over the years, whilst winning various accolades including an Academy Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Golden Globe. However, when it comes to Cage, a string of offbeat roles granted him a bad movie streak. Seminal among these is Deadfall, Left Behind, and Pay The Ghost, among which the first two can be deemed as downright unwatchable.
Having said that, it is important to acknowledge that Cage is no stranger to portraying strong, complex characters, as evidenced in his revenge-fueled, yet pathos-inducing rendition of Red in Panos Cosmatos’ heavy metal valentine, Mandy. Underwhelming performances aside, there is a plethora of Cage films that deserve praise and consideration,...

Nicolas Cage has had an illustrious decades-long career, though there have been some hits and misses, especially in the horror genre, which now includes his latest release Renfield. The horror comedy is a sequel to 1931's Dracula with a more gory, campy twist. Renfield tells the story of Dracula's familiar and assistant Renfield as he tries to escape Dracula's manipulations and start a life of his own.
Over the years, Nicolas Cage has starred in various horror films ranging from absolutely terrible to incredible and iconic. Cage is well-known for his eclectic taste in film projects, so it is unsurprising that some of his on-screen appearances do well while others flop completely. Interestingly, within Cage's slew of horror films, viewers can actually see certain patterns when it comes to the films' Rotten Tomatoes critics' and audience scores. In terms of his latest film, Renfield has scored both poorly but also surprisingly well.

Nicolas Cage has had enough of the press taking shots at him for his era of straight-to-vod movies. The Oscar winner had a string of theatrical flops around 2014, including duds such as “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” and “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance,” and so his career pivoted almost exclusively to VOD titles like “The Runner,” “Pay the Ghost,” “The Trust” and more. Anyone who claimed Cage didn’t care about his career during this era was dead wrong.
“People thought I didn’t care. I did. I was caring,” Cage recently told Rolling Stone. “I think that I did some of the best work of my life in that so-called ‘direct to video’ period. ‘Massive Talent’ was in that group. ‘Mandy’ was in that group. ‘Pig,’ ‘Bad Lieutenant: Port of New Orleans,’ ‘Joe,’ ‘Mom and Dad,’ ‘Color Out of Space’ — they were all in that group. ‘The Runner’ I thought was terrific.

Stars: Lauren Beatty, Greg Bryk, Katharine King So, Michael Ironside, Judith Buchan | Written by Wendy Hill-Tout, Lowell | Directed by Amelia Moses
We reviewed Amelia Moses’ Bleed With Me at Fantasia last year. And now her latest feature, Bloodthirsty, co-written by Wendy Hill-Tout and her daughter Lowell, is screening at Frightfest after a successful US festival run. Her first film was a take on vampirism, the second takes on lycanthropy. Can she go two for two in updating classic monsters?
Grey is a singer with a hit debut album. She also has writer’s block and nightmares about becoming a wolf. Dr. Swan gives her pills but they aren’t helping. She might have a cure for her writing issues though. Vaughn Daniels a reclusive producer whose career is equal parts successful and controversial has offered his services. Grey and her girlfriend Charlie (Katharine King So; Transplant) take up residence at his isolated studio.

Nicolas Cage has been named the hardest working actor in Hollywood over the last five years. This, according to an analysis of some of the biggest names in the business and looking at their output. It's important to note that it counts work as a producer, which helped to bolster quite a few names on the list. But in the case of Cage, it was purely grinding it out as an actor.
According to the report, Nicolas Cage has starred in 27 features over the last five years. In 2015 Cage had a relatively modest two movies released with The Runner and Pay the Ghost. But in 2018, for example, Cage put in a ton of work with Mandy, Looking Glass, 211, Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, Between Worlds and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse all hitting theaters. Quiver Distribution dropped the trailer for the Nicolas Cage-led thriller Running with the Devil today. The National Treasure actor stars alongside the Matrix's Laurence Fishburne in the drug trafficking flick where, "From the fields to the streets, everyone is running with the devil."
When a cocaine shipment is compromised, the drug cartel's CEO, known as The Boss (Crawl's Barry Pepper) orders his most trusted henchman, Cage's The Cook, to audit the company's supply chain. Or as Nicolas Cage says in the trailer, he has "administrative issues [he has] to attend to." Joining him on the dangerous journey is a master drug trafficker known as The Man (Academy Award Nominee Laurence Fishburne).
The drugs are making their "perilous trek across international borders past gangsters, refiners, and couriers," but they're also being tracked by Federal Agents under The Agent in Charge played by Leslie Bibb (Iron Man) who, the trailer tells us,...

One of my favorite up-and-coming horror directors out there is David Bruckner, and today we have word that he is attached to helm Entertainment One's high concept sci-fi flick Out There. Details are scarce on just what the project is about, but sources say the thriller centers on a family struggling to survive following a mysterious event that changes the course of the world. Sounds like fun to this guy! Even better still is that we hear the movie follows in the vein of Stephen King's classic novella The Mist.
Stephen King's The Mist, for those who somehow might not know, was adapted into a film starring Tom Jane, Marcia Gay Harden, and Laurie Holden back in 2007 from The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile writer-director Frank Darabont. The stars of yesterday now are making three films a year you never knew existed until they show up on Netflix.^ Real Movie ^
In my prior life as a script reader, I certainly read a lot of bad scripts, but at times, an even more common occurrence was a script that seemed to do a great many things right, but somehow fell just short of being something you wanted to champion as a movie. As draining as the terrible scripts were, there’s something pure about clear-cut bad. It takes little effort to explain why they’re unfit.
The real challenges were the scripts that had kind of a decent premise, kind of an okay twist or two, and a lead character who wasn’t bad so much as he or she was just… there. The raw materials are there for what Could be a script. They just happen to be assembled in the least compelling way...

You know, of all the Nicolas Cage disasters that have been coming out the last few years (looking at you Stolen and Pay The Ghost), this seems like it would be one of his least disastrous. The plot of his new movie USS Indianapolis: Men Of Courage is actually a good one. It tells the story of the USS Indianapolis that was shot down in open waters by the Japanese in WWII,... Back in August, Fox confirmed that their beloved series Prison Break is coming back for a new event series, with original stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell returning as Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows. In January, Fox president Dana Walden teased that "some of the iconic characters" will be back, but he didn't mention any specific characters that would return. Today, Deadline reports that Sarah Wayne Callies has signed on to return as Dr. Sara Tancredi, with other casting additions being finalized.
The site reveals that Robert Knepper (T-Bag), Amaury Nolasco (Fernando) and Rockmond Dunbar (C-Note) are finalizing their deals to return, but nothing is official quite yet. During the TCA winter tour in January, Dana Walden said the series is "a bit of a sequel," taking place several years after the last season of the show. Probably one of the more overlooked aspects of the filmmaking process is sound design, which can be a crucial element to any movie, but especially when it comes to genre projects. Sound can elevate a mood, hint at impending dangers, set the stage for the unusual and so much more.
Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to catch up with one of the busiest sound designers out there, Katie Halliday, who recently worked on The Strain, Alleluia! The Devil’s Carnival, Pay the Ghost, as well as Antibirth, which is set to make its world premiere later this month at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.
Check out what Halliday had to say on the inspiration to pursue a career in sound, some of the earlier projects she worked on, and her thoughts on the misconceptions of sound design.

New on DVD & BluRay this week are three films which awards season completists will need to see...
Mr Holmes in which 76 year-old spry Sir Ian McKellen is aged up to play the world's most famous detective at 93 years of age as he mind begins to deteriorate. Mr Holmes was a leggy arthouse hit this summer but can that be converted into an awards run for Sir Ian? We shall see... Tangerine, one of the year's best films, follows Sin-Dee (Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) & Alexandra (Mya Taylor), best friends & hookers, as they search for Sin-Dee's boyfriend/pimp (James Ransone) who cheated on her "with real fish!" during her latest prison stint. It's the most unexpected and awesome Christmas comedy ever. It's already snagged multiple Gotham nominations but pray for Golden Globe, Bfca, Spirit nominations and top ten lists because this Sean Baker gem deserves them. Trainwreck, or The Coronation of Amy Schumer as 2015's It Girl.

Bone Tomahawk: It’s a horror film, but it’s mostly a western. Add Kurt Russell, some cannibals and basically point me in the direction of the movie theater because I’m sold. “Bone Tomahawk” is an impressive film, one of the best of the year so far; a mix of unusual humor, touches of thoroughly effective and satisfying horror, a beautifully rendered western era composition, and stunning performances from an impressive cast. Richard Jenkins, known to horror fans as one of the operators of horror in “The Cabin in the Woods”, is amazing. Mr. Jenkins constructs a character that is both too old to banter with the mindset of those younger than him but also too old to not share whatever wisdom he can conjure up through insufferable anecdotes. Matthew Fox, from televisions “Lost”, plays a prideful and somewhat despicable hired gun. Mr. Fox might be at his best here,...

Is Nicolas Cage chasing a ghost?
Where do films begin? Sometimes they’re just an idea, a discussion between friends, something that gets gradually rounded out and is always intended for the screen. Sometimes they’re screenplays created out of whole cloth and touted round the studios for years in the hope that somebody will bite. Often, they’re independent works of fiction – novels or short stories – and that’s the case with Pay The Ghost, which stars Nicolas Cage and Sarah Wayne Callies and is released on DVD this week. We spoke to Tim Lebbon, the original author, about the experience of having his work adapted for the big screen.
“I wrote the short story about 15 years ago for an American anthology,” he says. “Then some time later I got a call from Ian Levy at Midnight Kitchen Productions. It did come out the of blue. He said he was interested in it so.
