5 Out of 10, But 1 Star Extra For The Performance By Ila Arun as "Santo Bua"

2014's project being released in 2020 has obviously & already lost its charm as things have changed since then. The movie is surely struggling when it comes to its sensibility. Apart form that the screenplay is scattered and seems very disjointed followed by very poor & I repeat very very poor editing. Despite going all wrong the performances by the seasoned casts is just watch worthy, undoubtedly the star of the movie is Ila Arun aka Santo Bua she was sympathetic, funny and totally natural hitting the bulls eye. Nawazuddin as Ghoomketu, A not so young aspiring writer struggling & exploring Bollywood, writing and narrating different genre including Horror, lovestory, discussing item numbers sometimes breaking the fourth wall and interacting directly with the audience can only be pulled-off by the actor of his stature he did that very naturally. Lastly I like the brief appearance of Anurag Kashyap as Inspector Badlani the 'Chai Pani Cop' he was funny and lit but his character left incomplete which again may be due to the flawed editing. I wish I could see more screen presence of Badlani.

scene-by-scene nice take that don't comply with story...

Tone, Script & Story: It's a story of a struggling writer who leaves for city. It supposedly is comedy. The thing is even portrayal of great scenes after scenes it lacks a concrete story line up.

Do u like Taarak Mehta ka ulta chashma or other light serials. It feels like something on same path is trying to be constructed but with inclusion of adult language. I thing if the beep factor was included it would have taken movie more far.

Again visuals are nice.

Final Verdict: If unlike me you very much like the lightness of a particular streaming. You may like it.

Absolute Misfire

Seeing Anurag Kashyap, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Ila Arun, Raghuvir Yadav, and Swanand Kirkire all in one movie seems like a dream come true. On top of it, director Pushpendra Nath Misra (of the Taj Mahal 1989 fame) adds to the list. While the trailer might seem impressive, I must say I am utterly disappointed with this movie. The weakest link of the movie is the story and therefore the stellar starcast can do no better. Anurag Kashyap and Ila Arun both stand out in their performances. If you think I'm one of those SRK and Salman fans, well let me tell you I'm not. I love offbeat films but this one just doesn't fly. Even if you're looking for time pass you might want to skip this one and let it disappear in the universe. I hope Choked is going to live up to the expectations.

Perfect mismatch of capability and script. Such film should come with warning that Beware it can cause headache.

Watching this literally caused headache. I don't understand what writer and director thought about while making movie. Such a waste of talent. Even in a place how such actors took the role in weak script without any freshness, comedy was missing and characters were not up to the mark.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Raghuvir Yadav And Ila Arun Shines In This Comic Caper

Everyone has a dream which basically creates a purpose in life in order to achieve it. You need to believe in your dreams, cherish and protect it and make sure nobody takes it away from you. After a waiting period of 5 years, the Nawazuddin Siddiqui aspiring story writer drama Ghoomketu finally makes to Zee5 platform. Is it worth watching ? Let us find out.

Ghoomketu tells the story of an aspiring story writer (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who runs away from his home owing to a consistent nagging father, an over-sized-always-hungry spouse whom he accidentally marries and a careless step-mom. The only saving grace is his aunt (Ila Arun) who encourages him to follow his dream and make it big in Mumbai.

Directed by Pushpendra Nath Misra, Ghoomketu rest on a very simple plot but it is the performances of the star cast, quirky and catchy dialogues and hilarious comic scenes which makes it an enjoyable ride. For the first few minutes, Ghoomketu goes as a passable flick but the plot becomes interesting after 20 minutes with funny scenes involving the anger management of Dadda (Raghuvir Yadav). There is an amazing scene where Raghuvir Yadav refuses to go home and eat food with his brother but the moment he realizes that his favourite dish is prepared, he just stands up without uttering a single word.

There are couple of flashback scenes which takes you to the black and white world describing the past stories where the director does a good job in narrating them. Ghoomketu becomes more interesting when Nawazuddin uses genres like drama, comedy, sci-fi and horror to tell his stories about the real-life characters (agelast, Overzealous, grouch) whom we see around us in our daily life and it will certainly bring down the house.

The script loses the steam towards the end and I wish the comedy-drama could have maintained the momentum it built initially. The art direction is pretty simple but nice with no glossy sets. Cinematography is decent while the background music is just about okay.

As a first time director, Pushpendra Nath Misra does a fine job in sketching the characters of Ghoomketu, except for Anurag Kashyap's cop role which could have been made better. Coming to the performances, there are three principle characters in Ghoomketu without whom the film would have been completed.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is the heart-beat of Ghoomketu. The supremely talented actor fits into a role of a struggling write without putting much effort. After Panchayat, Raguvir Yadav gives yet another splendid performance this year. However, the best dialogue delivery is done by Ila Arun who will surely win your heart with her electrifying performance. You will love her in scenes where she is prays at a temple wishing well for Ghoomketu and the scene where she pretends to get scared when Ghoomketu tells a horror story. Other actors like does part well.

Ghoomketu boast off special appearances right from Chitrangda Singh, Ranveer Singh, Sonkashi Sinha and Amitabh Bachchan which goes well with the theme of a Bollywood struggling writer.

So overall, Ghoomketu turned out to be better than expected. It is a good watch if you are looking for light-hearted comic scenes. Enjoyable 3/5

Unbearable

This movie starts with a list of really good actors but the script is so underworked that these same actors are left with nothing to perform .... Editing and Direction is so pathetic that in few scenes you can make the performances of the actors are abruptly chopped off in editing. This movie exactly what we didn't needed in lockdown. So guys it's safer to watch this movie post lockdown so that you can at least go out and feel the fresh air and let your mind relax ....

Decent humorous movie

It is a realistic movie. There is good amount of authenticity in the background-setting and the presentation of characters. The comedy genre is not conventional, it is rather tending towards dark comedy. The humour is good and the narration is pretty impressive. I am surprised by the beating this movie has received at the hands of many critics for not being up to the mark. I don't know which world these critics live in, as this movie is far better than the 95% Bollywood trash out there.

Anurag Kashyap going the RGV way

There was a time when RGV was the torch bearer of kickass Hindi movies. Then he started surrounding himself with yes boys and living in his own echo chamber leading to his downfall. Any project involving RGV started becoming unbearable.

Same is happening with Anurag Kashyap. He has surrounded himself with yes boys and yes girls. All projects he gets associated with are unbearable. He is just going the RGV way.

Coming to Ghoomketu, it is humorless and completely flat. 1* maybe a bit harsh but after the hype Anurag Kashyap makes on his projects, his projects which miss the mark deserve a 1*

Loved it...ignore the overall rating

I do not know why the overall rating is so low. I loved everything about the movie. Direction, storytelling, acting, everything. The bollywood movie mafia never appreciated good movie and this is an example. This is ahead of time. I am sure it will be appreciated more in future.

Slapstick comedy. It's different.

It's a very different role than the ones which Nawaz usually plays. Ending is abrupt. Feel good movie.

Missing storyline

Except the brilliant on screen presence of Nawazuddin Shidique, the move offers very less. The story line is flawed however, other supporting actors did a good job to make the movie watchable. Only watch the movie if you are fan of Nawazuddin Shidique, which I think most of us are.

Extraordinary piece of acting

Big Bollywood should learn acting from this one. All the character were amazing. Use of Awadhi language was just good.

Special mention to Ila Arun. Her acting was way better than most of today's actresses in Bollywood.

Ghoomketu: the web of fun created by Ghoomketu, Santo Bua and Dadda

Along with it's comedy, satire and Ghoomketu's funny action-reactions, the movie highlights the fact that just aspiring to be something in Bollywood is not enough. One has to have enough talent and luck to make it there. Also, that at times even though the movie honchos desire and attempt to give due credit to the concerned artists, but fate doesn't let them.

The movie is funny in parts and well made. But it lacks innovation in depiction of different genres of film making. Also, the line between the actual happenings and the scenes playing in the protagonist's mind while writing, is quite thin.
