How Did Chris Hemsworth Ruin John Krasinski’s Chance Of Being Captain America?
Image
Here’s why John Krasinski couldn’t become Captain America (Photo Credit – Instagram)

The MCU looked a lot different. John Krasinski—yep, Jim from The Office—was this close to landing the role of Captain America. But instead of donning the star-spangled suit, he walked away from his shot, all because of Thor.

Back in the day, before Krasinski was all jacked in 13 Hours or running through Jack Ryan, he auditioned for Steve Rogers himself. Marvel was still pulling together its Avengers, searching for the perfect guy to take on Captain America. So, Krasinski stepped into the suit, which didn’t go as planned.

Krasinski shared the hilarious story on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, revealing how Chris Hemsworth, already Thor by then, accidentally crushed his Captain America dreams. “I was putting the suit on,” Krasinski said. “And right at that moment, Chris Hemsworth walked by, and he was like,...

‘A Quiet Place’: The Blockbuster That Almost Joined the ‘Cloverfield’ Universe
Emily Blunt in Sans un bruit (2018)
In an unexpected revelation that connects two of the 21st century’s most successful horror franchises, it has come to light that “A Quiet Place,” the 2018 sensation directed by John Krasinski, was initially conceived as a potential entry in the “Cloverfield” universe.

The “Cloverfield” franchise, which began with Matt Reeves’ 2008 found-footage monster film, has spawned three movies to date. Known for its innovative approach to the monster genre and its expanded universe concept, “Cloverfield” seemed like a natural fit for Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’ script about sound-sensitive aliens.

In a 2018 interview with Slash Film, Beck and Woods revealed that they had pitched their concept to Paramount executives as a possible “Cloverfield” crossover. However, the studio saw greater potential in the script as a standalone project.

This decision by Paramount proved to be a masterstroke. “A Quiet Place,” under John Krasinski’s direction, became a critical and commercial juggernaut, grossing...

“Is it because you don’t think you are a good actor anymore”: Don’t Blame John Krasinski, Emily Blunt is the Reason Why He is So Focused on Directing
Image
John Krasinski has led a thoroughly successful career as an actor, with The Office, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and A Quiet Place film series being globally considered some of his best performances to date. But despite being such an awesome actor, the 44-year-old has been focusing more on creating and taming projects lately; even more than starring in them in iconic roles.

John Krasinski in Doctor Strange 2. | Credit: Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

As it turns out, the real reason behind this is the love of his life and the fan-favorite Hollywood actress, all in one: Emily Blunt. Apparently, it was Blunt who told him to jump into the directing field as well, and ever since then, Krasinski has been sticking to it more than he has been to acting. That said, it sounds like the real reason he is so focused on directing is actually his wife!

How To Watch John Krasinski's If At Home
Image
John Krasinski has had bit of a lopsided directing career. His first two feature directorial efforts, "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men" and "The Hollars," came and went with almost no real notice. Then Krasinski helmed the sci-fi horror film "A Quiet Place," which became a smash hit and got everyone's attention. He returned to helm the sequel "A Quiet Place Part Two," and then handed the franchise over to "Pig" filmmaker Michael Sarnoski, who is directing the upcoming prequel "A Quiet Place: Day One." While he might not have a "Quiet Place" film this year, Krasinski did direct another 2024 title: the family film "If" (you can read our review right here).

"If" opened to so-so box office numbers, but has held on surprisingly well. However, if you've avoided seeing it in theaters for whatever reason and are instead planning to watch the film at home, here's some good news: it's...

John Krasinski Completely Changed 'A Quiet Place's Monsters at the Last Second
Image
John Krasinski could have easily been comfortable with being best known as the lovable Jim Halpert on The Office, and while that would have been a great legacy, we are grateful that he wanted more, both in front of and behind the camera. This year, Krasinki helmed If, but early in his directorial career he made the smaller films Brief Interviews with Hideous Men and The Hollars. Everything changed with 2018's A Quiet Place, which he also co-wrote with Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, and starred alongside his real-life wife, Emily Blunt.

If's Rotten Tomatoes Score Has Critics & Audience's Divided Over John Krasinski Movie
Image
Audience and critic scores for John Krasinski's If on Rotten Tomatoes have a 38% difference. Critics find If confusing with a lack of tonal balance, while audiences praise its enchanting and emotional elements. The division in reception for If may stem from different expectations regarding its sophistication and quality as a family-friendly film.

John Krasinski's If is dividing audiences and critics on Rotten Tomatoes. While Krasinski has directed comedies like The Hollars and the horror film series A Quiet Place, this marked his first foray into family-friendly entertainment. The movie follows a young girl named Bea (Cailey Fleming), who realizes she has the ability to see everyone's imaginary friends (IFs). Her neighbor Cal (Ryan Reynolds) boasts the same ability, and the pair soon team up to find new homes for all the IFs whose children have outgrown them. Surprisingly, the imaginative film has caused division among critics and audiences.

On Rotten Tomatoes,...

Before If, John Krasinski Directed This Anna Kendrick & Charlie Day-Led Dramedy
Image
The transition of John Krasinski from one of the most likable characters on The Office to the filmmaker behind the A Quiet Place franchise is one of the most remarkable career pivots in recent Hollywood history. While many actors eventually become directors, Krasinskis aptitude for lighthearted comedy made him more than a little bit unusual as the innovator behind one of the scariest science fiction thrillers of the last few years. The difference in genres was striking, but Krasinski had proven himself as a director before A Quiet Place with his heartfelt dramedy The Hollars.

If Review: Ghost Town Meets A Monster Calls In John Krasinski's Whimsical, Messy Therapy Session
Image
Some of the best movies for kids have a powerful emotional core that pulls at your heartstrings. Whether it's reconciling grief, legacy, and coming-of-age in "The Lion King" (not the "live-action" disappointment) or the tale of an outcast talking pig in "Babe" who learns that being true to yourself is all the world needs you to be, kids movies have the power to teach everyone something about life, no matter how old they are. Writer and director John Krasinski has attempted to step into this arena with "If," hitting theaters this weekend, and it's quite the departure from his sci-fi horror hit "A Quiet Place," though it fits more in line with his sophomore directorial effort, the family dramedy "The Hollars."

"If" follows 12-year old Bea (Cailey Fleming), a girl who doesn't really consider herself a kid anymore. Having dealt with some traumatic pain due to the passing of her mother,...

If - Andrew Robertson - 19072
John Krasinski
If might not entirely have a question for a title, but it raises them throughout. Not, sadly, because it's all that thought-provoking, but more about questions of intent.

John Krasinski writes and directs, and while it's a fifth for him in either seat it's only the fourth where he's filled both roles. The exceptions are The Hollars and Promised Land (screenplay credit) for those in the big chair for any quizzes. There are some immediate and obvious shortcuts in the story: a dead mother for emotional heft, an adolescent girl for access to discussions of emotion, and occasional cut-aways to Krasinski to maintain tone and balance expenditures.

Does that last seem cynical? Krasinki's alternate-reality Marvel colleague Ryan Reynolds is running on screensaver mode, and while he's charming as default in a film whose credits include 9 Adr locations, he seems to be the only one actually...

Why If Feels So Unsatisfying as John Krasinskis Follow-Up to A Quiet Place
Image
"A Quiet Place" set a high bar for Krasinski, showing his directorial prowess and creative vision in atmospheric horror. The reunion with Steve Carell in "If" isn't the one fans were hoping for. Releasing "If" weeks before "A Quiet Place: Day One" invites comparisons, even if unwarranted.

While John Krasinski may always be best known for playing the role of Jim Halpert in NBCs generation-defining sitcom The Office, he has also managed to make a name for himself behind the camera in recent years. His directorial debut came in 2009, in the form of the comedy Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, which was made up of a collection of short stories, though it wasnt particularly well received.

While he made another directorial effort in 2016 with The Hollars, this movie once again failed to connect with critics and audiences. However, Krasinskis fortunes changed in 2018, when he decided to change everything with his latest film.

Director John Krasinski gets his first rotten rating since 2016 with the debut of his new movie If on Rotten Tomatoes.

Krasinski's live-action/animated family film If is about to hit theaters, and critics so far are not very high on the movie, as it debuts on Rotten Tomatoes with a 56% fresh rating, making it the first rotten film for Krasinski since 2016's The Hollars.

‘If’ - Everything We Know About the John Krasinski and Ryan Reynolds Film
Image
Since appearing in the successful nine-season run of The Office, John Krasinski has worked hard to diversify his portfolio with strong lead roles in projects like Michael Bay's gritty war film 13 Hours and his titular role in Prime Video's hit Jack Ryan series, but his most impressive feat has been his pivot into a directing career. Krasinki had previously directed the comedy-drama film The Hollars and adapted David Foster Wallace's Brief Interviews With Hideous Men for the big screen, but it was 2018's breakout hit A Quiet Place that shot him straight into the upper echelon of directors working in Hollywood today. The unprecedented success of the sci-fi horror film, has already spawned a sequel, with multiple spin-offs in development, and led to a first-look deal for Krasinki with Paramount. If, or Imaginary Friends as it was first titled, will see John Krasinski team up with Ryan Reynolds...

‘A Quiet Place II’ Trailer: The People That Are Left Are Not The Ones Worth Saving
John Krasinski had an established and respectful indie filmmaking career, but it wasn’t until the Hitchock-ian horror, family drama, “A Quiet Place,” that his directorial career launched into the stratosphere. “A Quiet Place” was a massive worldwide hit and in doing so has spawned its own sequel and potential ongoing franchise.

“Imaginary Friends” will follow a man who can see, and talk, to people’s imaginary friends. However, some of these friends don’t always mean well, and Reynolds’ character has to save the world from those friends that turn evil.

John Krasinski Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop Making Noise About ‘A Quiet Place’
John Krasinski
Nine months after John Krasinski debuted “A Quiet Place” at SXSW to the best reviews of his career, eight months after opening in the number-one slot at the box office, seven and a half months after crossing the $100M threshold, and six months after Paramount Pictures confirmed a sequel, he can’t believe he’s still talking about the thing.

The reason, of course, is a good one: distributor Paramount Pictures is giving the film a full awards campaign, one that has recently been bolstered by top 10 designations from AFI and the National Board of Review. Still, this is not how the actor-filmmaker (who has also found the time to start filming his second season as the star of Amazon’s “Jack Ryan” series) expected to spend his December.

“Absolutely not, unequivocally no,” Krasinski said. “I’ve never done the awards season thing for anything. This is very new to me.

‘Office’ reunion at the Oscars? Steve Carell and John Krasinski could be redeemed after all those Emmy snubs
Steve Carell, Jenna Fischer, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, and B.J. Novak in The Office (2005)
Emmys — who needs ’em? Though “The Office” won Best Comedy Series from the television academy in 2006, Steve Carell never won Best Comedy Actor for playing bumbling manager Michael Scott, and John Krasinski was never even nominated for Best Comedy Supporting Actor as sensitive salesman Jim Halpert. But they’ve both moved on to bigger and better things. This year Carell and Krasinski could reunite at the Oscars and trade in the TV academy for the motion picture academy.

Carell has already made an impression at the Oscars. He earned a Best Actor nomination for going against type as homicidal millionaire John du Pont in “Foxcatcher” (2014). This year he has a few chances for additional kudos. He stars in “Beautiful Boy” as real-life writer David Sheff, whose son struggles with drug addiction. He also appears in “Welcome to Marwen” as a man recovering from a brutal assault with help from a unique art installation.

Oscars spotlight: ‘A Quiet Place’ deserves a Best Picture nomination for its refreshing originality
John Krasinski
Horror genre fatigue? Nowadays, a lot of horror movies rely on unnecessary jump scares, gratuitous violence and predictable storylines. But if there’s one horror flick this year that defied the odds and subverted tropes, it was John Krasinski‘s “A Quiet Place,” which opened on April 6. On the surface, it’s a simplistic story about a post-apocalyptic world, but at its core, it’s a story about the strength of family bonds. Could “A Quiet Place” be this year’s “Get Out” and get a Best Picture Oscar nomination?

Krasinski directed and starred in “A Quiet Place,” and co-wrote it with Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. Set in 2020, the horror-thriller follows a family that is forced into hiding after the Earth’s population has been wiped out by giant sightless creatures with an acute sense of hearing. As these creatures will attack anything that makes even the slightest sound,...

Why John Krasinski Took A Stab At The Horror Genre With ‘A Quiet Place’ – The Contenders London
Peter White in À la Maison Blanche (1999)
“It’s a love letter to my kids,” said A Quiet Place director and star John Krasinski on what drew him to direct what has become the year’s hit horror film.

Speaking with Deadline International co-Editor Peter White, Krasinski explained that he was never a horror fan, but quickly realized upon reading A Quiet Place, which tells the story of a family, hiding on a remote farm from a horrific extraterrestrial presence, that “it was the best metaphor to parenthood.” And as parents to a three-week old, that hit a nerve with Krasinski and his wife/A Quiet Place star Emily Blunt.

While Krasinksi wasn’t completely absorbed with horror films, he did see Alien, Jaws and Rosemary‘s Baby to know there’s something about creating “tension and not showing what’s coming” to make scares on screen work. His friend, Martian screenwriter Drew Goddard advised after reading...

‘A Quiet Place’ Blu-ray Review
Stars: Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, Cade Woodward | Written by John Krasinski, Bryan Woods, Scott Beck | Directed by John Krasinski

Imagine a world where making even the tiniest noise could get you torn to pieces by a scary alien monster. That’s the killer premise behind A Quiet Place, an original and utterly terrifying creature feature from actor-director-co-writer John Krasinksi.

The film begins 89 days after an invasion of vicious aliens has decimated the Earth’s population. Aside from possessing razor-sharp teeth, the creatures are equipped with phenomenal hearing abilities, which they use to hunt their human prey.

The opening scene establishes just how far the film is willing to go to terrify you, as a family – father (Krasinski), mother, deaf teenage daughter (hearing-impaired actress Millicent Simmonds) and two young sons (Noah Jupe and Cade Woodward) – experience a horrific tragedy after one of their number accidentally makes a noise with a toy plane.

Emily Blunt in Sans un bruit (2018)
Shh! John Krasinski’s ‘A Quiet Place’ is so far the only original blockbuster of 2018
Emily Blunt in Sans un bruit (2018)
If you’re a sequel or a comic book movie, there’s a good chance you’ve made a ton of money in 2018. But so far only one original film — that is, not based on existing material — has earned more than $100 million at the U.S. box office: “A Quiet Place.” In fact, John Krasinski‘s apocalyptic horror movie about a family that must live in silence to escape sound-hunting creatures is nearing the $190 million mark domestically. That number is quite impressive for any film, but it’s the all the more important when you consider that “A Quiet Place” is a wholly original story.

See‘A Quiet Place’ scares up tons of money at the box office, but will it make noise at the Oscars like ‘Get Out’?

Moviegoers tend to open their wallets en masse for films that seem familiar to them. That’s why “Black Panther” ($700 million...

Review: A Quiet Place (2018)
Sometimes people first entering a genre can bring something truly special to it. See how directors like Patty Jenkins, Scott Derrickson, Taika Waititi and soon James Wan have brought their influences and ideas to the superhero genre. Sometimes, minds outside of a certain field can really find that they have a knack for it and in the case of writer/director John Krasinski (best known perhaps for featuring in the Us Version of The Office) I think this will prove to be very much the case. As A Quiet Place really does show that – like Jaws, Halloween and The Blair Witch Project – the simplest of ideas in horror can be the most blood-curdlingly effective.

Krasinski has directed two feature films before but with A Quiet Place the self-professed newbie to horror has brought an anxiety to the genre that has all the makings of a future auteur. Like Alfred Hitchcock or John Carpenter,...

John Krasinski’s Disruptive Determination To Turn ‘A Quiet Place’ Into 2018’s Horror Hit — Deadline Disruptors
John Krasinski
If it’s the job of a Hollywood filmmaker to realize imagined worlds where the bounds of everyday reality are cast aside, then John Krasinski has a claim for delivering above-and-beyond his brief. Ever since A Quiet Place sailed to a surprise $50 million opening weekend, everyday realities are shifting, even off-screen. The munching of popcorn has ceased. Chattering cinemagoers have been silenced. Even bathroom breaks have been cautiously tiptoed.

As Deadline inducts its 2018 class of Disruptors, there can be few candidates better suited to a place on our list than Krasinski. Seizing on a deliciously simple idea first drafted by Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, Krasinski crafted A Quiet Place into an instant horror hit, casting himself and his wife Emily Blunt as the heads of a small family in rural America whose lives are upended when otherworldly monsters invade the planet. As it becomes apparent that these blind beasts...

Peter Bart: Inspiration Or Anomaly? What Studios Can Learn From John Krasinski’s PG-13 Sleeper ‘A Quiet Place’
Peter Bart
It’s come to this: The only picture that will finally bump A Quiet Place from its perch atop the box office is a new Avengers. With some online critics calling the latest Marvel entry “a hurricane of carnage”…”a movie tornado”…”a blockbuster of noise,” will audiences miss the sounds of silence?

The majors supposedly were going to detonate a series of hits in the first quarter of 2018, but Pacific Rim Uprising and A Wrinkle in Time both fizzled and Rampage lost its top rung after one week. That left gurus scratching their heads, trying to figure the lure of quietude.

A Quiet Place fits the odd profile of a Hollywood “sleeper.” No one seems to know who gave it a green light. It emerged between studio regimes, so no one claims credit for genius marketing strategies. The movie had no Dwayne Johnson-like champion on social media. Paramount’s new CEO,...

John Krasinski's Next Directing Project is a Sci-Fi Film Called Life On Mars
Who would have thought that John Krasinski would be the next hot director in Hollywood!? As his horror film A Quiet Place continues to have success, Krasinski has found his next directing gig. According to THR, he will be taking on a sci-fi film project called Life on Mars. The full producing team behind A Quiet Place is also attached. Those producers include Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller.

Life on Mars will be an adaptation of a short story written by Cecil Castellucci titled We Have Always Lived on Mars. Krasinski found this story and brought it to his Platinum Dunes to produce.

The story centers on a woman "who is among a handful of descendants of a Martian colony long-abandoned by Earth following a cataclysm. The woman one day finds she can breathe the air on Mars, upending her world and that of her fellow colonists."

As of right now,...

‘A Quiet Place’: How ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ Remake Laid the Groundwork for a Surprise Box Office Hit
Emily Blunt in Sans un bruit (2018)
“A Quiet Place” executive producer Brad Fuller is still startled that the film had a $50 million opening weekend, taking the top box office spot from none other than Steven Spielberg. “Something magical just happened,” he told IndieWire during a Monday afternoon call. “The tracking on this movie was never very impressive until the last week…It felt anemic.”

When the post-apocalyptic thriller opened Friday, Fuller — who produced with his Platinum Dunes co-founders Michael Bay and Andrew Form — said all involved were expecting the movie to earn about $20 million to $25 million in the next three days, per estimates from Paramount. Yet Platinum Dunes titles, which range from “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” to “The Amityville Horror” and the soon-to-be four-part “Purge” franchise, have consistently bested ticket sales predictions.

“We have made a lot of these movies,” said Fuller. “Unless the movie’s a bomb, most of the time the tracking is not reflective of our audience.

‘A Quiet Place’ scares up tons of money at the box office, but will it make noise at the Oscars like ‘Get Out’?
Emily Blunt in Sans un bruit (2018)
It’s still only the spring, but might we already have another year-end awards contender on our hands? “A Quiet Place” opened on April 6 to rave reviews, and it has now topped the box office with $50 million dollars in its opening weekend against a mere $17 million budget. And it bears a few striking similarities to another horror movie that earned plaudits from the academy, “Get Out.”

The stories of the two films don’t have much in common besides sharing the horror genre. “Get Out” was an allegory about racism in America, while “A Quiet Place” is about a family that lives in silence to escape the detection of creatures that hunt by sound. But there are eerie parallels behind the scenes. Both films were similarly acclaimed: “A Quiet Place” scored 82 on MetaCritic and 97% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, while “Get Out” rated 84 on MetaCritic and 99% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. And...

‘A Quiet Place’ Has The 2nd Biggest Opening Of 2018; ‘Ready Player One’ Scores Overseas [Box Office]
Maybe should stick with genre films? Up until this point, John Krasinski’s directorial career wasn’t much to speak of with the unremarkable David Foster Wallace adaptation, “Brief Interviews With Hideous Men,” and the “The Hollars.” The latter might be the poster boy for when someone describes, you know, a Netflix film. All that has changed, and Krasinski’s filmmaking career has essentially been minted this weekend with the success of his suspenseful horror movie, “A Quiet Place,” starring his wife Emily Blunt.

‘A Quiet Place’ Opens To $50M: How Paramount Turned Up The Volume On The John Krasinski-Emily Blunt Pic
Sunday Am Update: Paramount’s A Quiet Place is headed past $50M, according to industry estimates this morning ($50.4M), after a Saturday of $19.2M, which is $200K higher than Friday’s take. Note Friday included $4.3M Thursday previews, so what this means is that A Quiet Place isn’t front-loaded like your standard horror movie, and that’s a fantastic sign for business. Paramount is calling the weekend at $50M, with another $21M from 40 overseas markets, for a $71M global debut.

‘A Quiet Place’: John Krasinski Wasn’t a Horror Fan, But He’s Resetting His Directing Career With An Ambitious Scary Movie
John Krasinski
John Krasinski gets it. With his third directorial outing, the high-concept horror film “A Quiet Place,” the actor and filmmaker has gotten about as far away from his previous films – including an ambitious but flawed David Foster Wallace adaptation and a feel-good family dramedy seemingly made to debut at Sundance – as creatively possible.

That wasn’t entirely by design, though, because Krasinski did not enter the genre space as a way of acting out some childhood dream. Krasinski didn’t even like horror movies as a kid, shoring it up to the eight-year-old who still lives inside of him, terrified of seeing anything scary on the big screen.

“I am among the large group of people who would look at my name and by like, ‘What? That guy is going to do a horror movie?’,” Krasinski said in a recent interview with IndieWire. “But what I realized was that I...

Is A Quiet Place Too Scary For A PG-13?
A Quiet Place is a PG-13 horror film about a family hiding from creatures who attack based on sound. As the film’s tagline states, “If they hear you, they hunt you.” It’s an intriguing premise, but does it live up to its potential as a 21st-century evolution of horror?

It’s fair to say John Krasinski’s third film as director is a far cry from his earlier works – the indie drama, Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, and the family dramedy, The Hollars – with the <a href="https://screenrant.

A Quiet Place Review: Don’t Scream During This Great Monster Flick
The third feature-length film directed by John Krasinski (aka. Jim from The Office), A Quiet Place is an excellent example of how to take a simple premise – monsters that hunt using sound – and flesh it out into a lean, mean creature feature with solid human drama at its core. A Quiet Place may seem a far cry from Krasinski’s previous work as a writer/director, but it shares the same concerns for the working class as 2012’s Promised Land (which Krasinski cowrote and costarred in) and builds on the concerns about parenthood from 2016’s The Hollars (a film Krasinski headlined and directed). The movie further establishes Krasinski as a true budding talent behind the camera, after his first two features earned his props for ambition but an otherwise lukewarm reception. A Quiet Place lives up to the ambitious challenge that it sets for itself, taking audiences on a compelling...

Daniel Kaluuya in Get Out (2017)
‘A Quiet Place’ Review: John Krasinski’s Almost-Silent Film Is About Terrifying As Movies Get
Daniel Kaluuya in Get Out (2017)
Horror films might have not lost their popularity, but a vast majority of them these days prove the well-worn genre is losing its mojo. Heightened sound effects and music cues are all-too-predictable ways to try to scare audiences, but truly innovative or classic contemporary examples — with the occasional exception of a not easily defined hybrid that comes along to break the mold like Get Out — are not easy to find. Well, I have found one.

A Quiet Place is a genuinely effective, brilliantly executed piece of horror, a truly terrifying movie that earns its screams by essentially turning off the sound. Not since a blind Audrey Hepburn turned off the lights in Wait Until Dark a half-century ago have I had this kind of anxiety watching a movie. Director John Krasinski — who also co-wrote with Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, co-produced, and co-stars with wife Emily Blunt — has delivered an...

'A Quiet Place' Review: 'Stay Silent, Stay Alive' Says This New Horror Classic
Bryan Woods
Did you ever think that quiet – the hush in which no talk is above a whisper – could scare the hell out of you? A Quiet Place does just that, raising the stakes on terror until no one can hear you scream. As director, star and cowriter (with Bryan Woods and Scott Beck), John Krasinski hits on a killer hook: What if a family of four, among the few left alive after a monster apocalypse, can survive on their upstate New York farm as long as they don't make a sound?...

John Krasinski Crafts A Dread-Inducing Horror Thriller With ‘A Quiet Place’ [SXSW Review]
Actor/filmmaker John Krasinski has kept audiences guessing and made quite the transformation over the years. Starting out as the nebbish, mild-mannered Jim Halpert on “The Office,”over the years, Krasinski has evolved into a screenwriter (“The Promised Land,” co-written with Matt Damon), a writer/director of comedy and drama (“Brief Interviews With Hideous Men,” “The Hollars“) and even beefed up as a tough guy action star (Michael Bay‘s “13 Hours,” and his upcoming turn as the star of “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” for Amazon Prime).

SXSW 2018 Preview: 15 Must-See Films
The 90th Academy Awards have come and gone (after what felt like a longer than ever Oscar season) and we’re upon yet another one of our yearly film festival markers. The annual music and film industry hybrid festival SXSW – celebrating its 25th year- begins this week and, as per usual, there’s plenty of variety in the full lineup to choose from. The popular festival will be the stage for the debut of “A Quiet Place” as the Opening Night film, a chance for director/actor John Krasinski to redeem himself from the uniquely bad “The Hollars“.
