I was surprised by how much I did actually like this movie. I was a little concerned that length and dual languages might deter my attention a little but not at all. The movie was very well done. The story moves along at a good pace and though you may see a little of the path there is still good creepiness along the way. Definitely worth the time and much better than many of the possession/horror movies out there and especially with a not very well known cast, to me anyway, other than Tobin Bell.
This movie has been on my watchlist for a while. I was so happy to finally see it come to Shudder! You think this movie is going to be one thing but it totally switches gears the second half. With a much bigger picture type of story. The last 10 min were a little cheesy but overall decent movie. I don't want to give anything away but if you like possession horror you'll like this one. Partially in subtitles but mostly in English.
Most Christ child/possession movies have a particular formula. Christ is here and demons try to stop him. You can figure out pretty quick who's on what side from the start. This one though kinda keeps you guessing until the last 10 minutes. All I watch are horror movies and I was surprised with this. You think it's dropping a hint one way then it turns it on it's head and makes you question that hint you just saw. It's really interesting and I highly recommend it!!
This was just the type of horror demonic movie I've been waiting on! I really don't watch too many foreign films but have this a try. Needless to say I was pleasantly satisfied. The lead actor could have been better but I could overlook that and still enjoy the film. I highly recommend you give this a watch.
Initially I wasn't really expecting much from the 2017 movie "Belzebuth", but still as it is a horror movie, of course I gave it a chance. I am a big fan of the horror genre after all.
Turns out that "Belzebuth" from writers Luis Carlos Fuentes and Emilio Portes actually turned out to be rather entertaining. You quickly get submerged into the story and director Emilio Portes takes you on quite a ride throughout the course of this movie.
The storyline is nicely constructed and there isn't really a dull moment to the movie. The movie quickly picked up its pacing and never really slowed down. I enjoyed how you are kept in the dark throughout most of the movie, not really knowing what is going on, which meant that the movie wasn't as predictable as you might have feared it to be.
The special effects in the movie were quite good, and that was a nice surprise. Especially since I wasn't really expecting that from a movie such as this.
There are aspects to the storyline which might not really fall in good taste with some viewers, as there is focus on child killings throughout the course of the movie. Luckily this is done rather delicately, I think, and it doesn't cross over the line where it becomes grotesque.
Joaquín Cosio really performed quite well and carried the movie phenomenally, and it was also nice to see Tobin Bell in such a role, and he definitely brought a lot of enjoyment to the movie also.
It should be said that "Belzebuth" doesn't really bring a whole lot of new material to the horror genre, or to the demonic possession movie as such, but it is still a rather enjoyable and watchable movie.
I am rating "Belzebuth" a sound and solid six, six, six out of ten stars.
