A Halloween Feast opens with a strange and bloody scene before a voiceover from Karen Long informs us that she’s worried about her mother Angela. Since she retired from teaching, she’s picked up some odd habits, such as sitting in the yard burning ants with a magnifying glass and killing the family pets.

Six months later it hasn’t gotten any better, and she goes as far as cutting off her husband Richard’s finger and feeding it to him after he mentions it’s the twelfth night in a row she’s served meatloaf for dinner. That gets her committed to a mental hospital.

Independent filmmaker Patrick Rea has let Bloody Disgusting know this week that post-production is nearing completion for his next movie, a found footage-style LGBTQ vampire feature titled The Night Is Young.

The film tells the story of Nora (Sarah McGuire), an influencer, who along with her brother Jake (Jake Jackson) are filming her failed dates for a video blog. Through a turn of events, she ends up on a date with Emilia (Valeri Bates), a female vampire.

Soon they find themselves in the crosshairs of a group of murderous vampire hunters.

Rea tells us, “I think we’ve made a fun and original found-footage feature that we hope pleases fans of the sub-genre. We are planning for a festival premiere possibly in the late summer.”

French filmmaker Leos Carax discussed the sacred nature of the image and the challenge of retaining its power on the big screen in the digital age in an on-stage conversation at the Doha Film Institute’s Qumra event on Monday.

The filmmaker said he had transitioned to shooting in digital in his segment of the 2008 feature Tokyo!, one of his first works after the death of his beloved cinematographer Jean-Yves Escoffier, who died age 52 in 2003.

Carax revealed this move had changed his filmmaking process as he took the decision to stop watching the dailies from then on, which resulted in him ditching his habit of doing multiple retakes.

The director admitted that 15 years on, he is not a huge fan of shooting in digital.

The Berlin Film Festival has announced Juliette Binoche will serve as the jury president for the main competition at the 2019 event. Berlinale will celebrate its 69th year in 2019. Binoche has a long history with the Berlin Film Festival, with films such as “The Night Is Young” screening in competition, and others like “The Lovers on the Bridge” playing such sidebars as the Forum section. The actress won the Berlinale Silver Bear for Best Actress, as well as an Oscar, for her role in Anthony Minghella’s “The English Patient” in 1997.

“It means the world to me!” Binoche said in a statement, calling the role of jury president a “tremendous honor.” “I’m looking forward to this special rendezvous with the entire jury and will embrace my task with joy and care.”

With production set to begin later this winter, 20th Century Fox has found another new cast member for The Predator sequel. Trevante Rhodes, one of the breakout stars from last year's indie sensation Moonlight, has signed on to star alongside Boyd Holbrook and Olivia Munn. Interestingly enough, this report also ignites an older rumor that was previously shut down by director Shane Black just a few months ago.

When Olivia Munn signed on back in November, that report claimed that this movie would have a suburban setting. Just a few days later, director Shane Black said fans shouldn't expect The Predator, "lurking in rich, fancy swimming pools," debunking that report about the suburbs being used. The Hollywood Reporter broke that earlier story from November, and today's casting news, but, in spite of Shane Black's denial, it seems the publication is sticking with its claim that the movie will be set in the suburbs.
