As much as I wanted to convince myself that this would be a good series, unfortunately, it still falls short. The performances of the cast are amazing, and even the direction is commendable, but what disappoints me is the recycled material given to them. This is clearly a shameless rip-off of Sarah Paulson's Hulu hit "Run", and even the title itself is blatantly taken from the biopic "Mommie Dearest", where Faye Dunaway played the real life Hollywood Legend, Joan Crawford who's an abusive mother to her adopted child.
Katrina Halili and Camille Prats deliver an outstanding performances, but I just wish the series had taken a different narrative path, especially with its title! The creatives need to realize that we no longer live in the early 2000s when the internet was less accessible. These days, (thanks to streaming platforms), audiences are well aware of films and series from around the world. So please, make a better show with a fresh and unique take next time.
This series is still airing, so I hope it eventually takes a more unique path, something believable and less campy. Sure, people might talk about it over minor flaws or viral moments, but in the long run, that won't guarantee a lasting impact. At the end of the day, if the story doesn't hold up, no one will continue watching or remember its legacy and that's a painful reality for an artists!
