Invasive 2: Getaway

I didn't like anything about this film. It was so draggy I stopped the movie several times and watched something else. It wasn't until three days later, after I started to watch this, that I remembered I hadn't finished it, so I went back and finished. The first installment was thrilling, innovative, and the characters were well-developed. The writing was good, and there was a lot of suspense. It was more of a horror movie. This one stunk and was more of an accidental comedy than anything else.

First off, the second film doesn't fit the first installment at all. It doesn't even have the same tone. This one is like one of those cheesy, low-budget Sci-Fi movies. The acting is horrific. No one could act except Khosi (sorry for forgetting the character's name) and the man who played her dad. But even they were bad because of the awful writing. Everyone was two-dimensional and a walking cliche. And that fake Southern accent from the older woman had my eyes rolling. She sounded like someone trying to be Southern and doing a horrible job at it, because she was.

They shouldn't have never made this. An obvious way for Tubi to get some money because there seemed to be no effort for this one. There was no horror, no suspense, no thrills. And maybe Tubi should stop giving away all the plots in their trailers because the trailer even tells you that the people being on the island is a trick so you're just watching the movie and waiting until everything blows over.

I didn't like that Khosi went on a trip with her dad because this man came out of nowhere. In the first movie, she acted like it was just her and her mother (who died) and now all of a sudden she has a father from somewhere? Please. And can we please stop making every black man an absentee father? It's played out and beyond offensive and the "estranged father" trope has been done too many times. I guess they had to do that since they never mentioned this man in the first movie. Just made him up.

This movie would've been more interesting if Khosi had gone to the island with a friend or boyfriend and they'd tricked her, than this. Her and her father had no chemistry, didn't seem comfortable around each other, and acted like strangers. Estranged or not, you'd have some connection to you father. I saw none. They were like two people just stuck together.

Oh, and let's not forget how they have to throw in some predictable "torture" scenes. Yeah, yawn.

Don't waste your time on this one. My only fear is I have a feeling they're making another one. Yikes!
