Exclusive: Sheridan Smith and Céline Buckens have been cast as sisters in The Castaways, a Paramount+ drama series based on Lucy Clarke’s novel.

Smith will play Lori and Buckens is her sibling Erin in the thriller, which marks Clarke’s second series adaptation for Paramount+’s UK service.

After they have a huge flight, Lori boards a plane to Fiji, while Erin does not. The flight never arrives at its tropical destination and months later no wreckage has been located. Erin suddenly hears Lori’s credit card has been used on a remote Fijian island and she later recognizes the pilot on CCTV. She boards a plane to Fiji to track down the truth.

A host of British talent has been recognised in the newly-unveiled list of nominations for the International Emmys 2015.

Sheridan Smith and Rafe Spall are amongst those being recognised, having being nominated for their performances in ITV's Cilla and Channel 4's Black Mirror respectively.

Elsewhere, My Mad Fat Diary has been nominated for Drama Series, while 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy was also nominated for the Non-Scripted Entertainment award.

Engrenages, which airs on BBC Four as Spiral, has been recognised in the Drama Series category.

Meanwhile, the 2015 International Emmy Founders Award will also be awarded to Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, while HBO's Richard Plepler will receive the 2015 International Emmy Directorate Award.

The much loved entertainer - who passed away on Saturday (August 1) - kickstarted her TV career on the BBC back in 1968.

A total of 3.35 million viewers paid tribute to Cilla Black on Tuesday night (August 4), according to overnight data.

ITV's hour-long tribute The One and Only Cilla Black, which featured an introduction from her close friend Paul O'Grady, attracted a 15.8% audience share at 9pm, and was watched by a further 249k (1.6%) on +1.

Elsewhere, Love Your Garden appealed to 3.16m (16.2%) at 8pm (186k/0.9% on +1), and a repeat of Sheridan Smith's drama Cilla gathered 1.23m (11.7%) at 10.40pm (106k/2.0%).

BBC One's New Tricks topped the ratings outside of the soaps with an impressive 5.37m (25.5%) at 9pm. Earlier, Rip Off Britain intrigued 3.60m (20.2%) at 7pm.

Cilla writer Jeff Pope has argued that it is too soon to be dramatising the life of Jimmy Savile.

Pope has been involved in drama projects based on the Moors murders and the life of serial killer Fred West, but insisted that Savile's story is "too painful and too fresh" to tackle.

"I was musing about Jimmy Savile [as a subject] and then suddenly I became the guy who was going to make The Jimmy Savile Story - and it hasn't happened yet, because I don't think it's the right time yet," he told press including Digital Spy backstage at the House of Fraser BAFTA Television Awards.

"I think it's too painful and fresh and there are too many people scarred by it."

Philomena, Mrs Biggs, The Widower and most recently Cilla - Jeff Pope has made a career out of plowing real-life stories to produce drama on both the big and small screen; and it's paid off, with the writer winning two BAFTAs and an Academy Award.

His latest accolade is a BAFTA TV Special Award - an honour presented in recognition of an outstanding creative contribution to television, with previous recipients including TV exec Jane Tranter, director Paul Greengrass and dramatist Alan Clarke.

Pope started his career in journalism - working as a reporter and researcher - and says the skills he learned have kept him "in good stead" throughout his career as a screenwriter.

"It was dealing with stories - things that had happened, facts," he explains. "It's getting the material and shaping it."

The writer of ITV's Cilla biopic will be honoured with this year's BAFTA TV Special Award.

Jeff Pope, whose other works include Mrs Biggs, Mo and Appropriate Adult, is receiving the accolade for his creative contribution to television.

The award was last presented in honour of Alan Clarke in 2009.

Pope said: "Alan Clarke was a hero of mine, and I am delighted to have been honoured with this award in his name.

"I have been lucky enough to work with some extraordinarily talented people, and this is a moment in my life to look back with gratitude to all those who have helped me achieve.

"Writing is all about facing down the tyranny of the blank screen, but my message to all aspiring writers is that once you've hit that first key, you discover it's really not so difficult as you'd imagined."

Keeley Hawes has ruled out a return to Line of Duty.

The second series of BBC Two's cop thriller ended with Hawes's character Di Lindsay Denton behind bars - and the BAFTA-nominated actress told Digital Spy that her commitment to Sky1's Fungus the Bogeyman adaptation rules out a return for the character.

Benedict Cumberbatch has been nominated for the third time as leading actor in his BBC role of Sherlock. This marks his sixth nomination for this category in his career.

Cumberbatch received a Best Actor Oscar nomination earlier this year for his role as Alan Turing in Morten Tyldum’s The Imitation Game.

The nominations, announced on Wednesday by actors Freddie Fox and Amanda Abbington, place Cumberbatch in a category alongside three others.

Less than a month after actor Nick Frost signed on to reprise his Snow White and the Huntsman dwarf role Nion in Universal Pictures' sequel The Huntsman, Rob Brydon, Alexandra Roach and Sheridan Smith have signed on to play three new dwarfs. We reported in January that the sequel will only feature two dwarfs, but it seems Universal has reconsidered that stance. No details were given regarding these new characters, but this is the first time female dwarfs are being introduced into the fairy tale storyline.

In Snow White and the Huntsman, Nick Frost, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Ian McShane, Johnny Harris, Ray Winstone and Brian Gleeson played the seven dwarfs. Our report from January revealed that Toby Jones could not come to terms with the studio to reprise his role, while Eddie Marsan had scheduling complications with the Showtime series Ray Donovan. Line of Duty, Casualty and Harry Enfield & Paul Whitehouse have won at the Royal Television Society Programme Awards 2013-2014.

The event - which honours excellence across all genres of television programming - took place at London's Grosvenor House Hotel on Tuesday (March 17), hosted by John Sergeant.

Line of Duty picked up Best Drama Series, Best Actress went to Happy Valley's Sarah Lancashire and Best Actor was won by Tom Hollander (A Poet in New York).

Casualty beat Coronation Street and EastEnders to claim Best Soap, while comedy Harry & Paul's Story of the Twos received two awards from its three nominations.

Strictly Come Dancing's Claudia Winkleman also took home Entertainment Performance, The Graham Norton Show won for Entertainment Programme and The Island With Bear Grylls triumphed in the Popular, Factual and Features category.

Sky Sports' Gary Neville collected Best Sports Commentator for the second year running, and the Lifetime...

Benefits Street and Sheridan Smith were among the winners at the 2015 Broadcasting Press Guild Awards.

The Channel 4 show was named Best Documentary Series at the ceremony, while Smith picked up Best Actress for her performances in Cilla and The Widower.

Gogglebox took home the prize for Best Factual Entertainment and Marvellous was named Best Single Drama. BBC Two's The Honourable Woman won for Best Drama Series.

Meanwhile, Lenny Henry was honoured at this year's event with the Harvey Lee Outstanding Contribution to Broadcasting award.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Happy Valley writer Sally Wainwright, Marvellous actor Toby Jones and W1A.

The Royal Television Society's ceremony will celebrate the best of television and related media from 2013-14.

BBC One's Happy Valley is up for Best Drama Series alongside Peaky Blinders and Line of Duty. Prey, The Driver and The Honourable Woman are nominated for Best Drama Serial.

Sarah Lancashire is also recognised for Happy Valley in the Best Actor - Female category, along with Sheridan Smith for Cilla and Murdered by My Boyfriend's Georgina Campbell.

Best Actor - Male will be fought out between Toby Jones for Marvellous, Tom Hollander for A Poet in New York and Adeel Akhtar for Utopia.

Graham Norton is nominated for two awards, including Best Entertainment Programme for The Graham Norton Show, where he goes up against Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and A League of Their Own.

Sheridan Smith has told Digital Spy that she was "gutted" to miss her win at the National Television Awards.

Speaking to DS back stage last night (January 21), the Cilla star recalled how she "burst into tears" upon hearing she'd won the trophy for Best Drama Performance, while stuck in traffic.

"I was in the back of a cab," said the emotional actress. "That's not the way you want to win it - I was gutted. But bless the NTAs - they let me go on and say a little thank you."

Smith beat out Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch, Happy Valley's Sarah Lancashire and Downton Abbey's Dame Maggie Smith to win the award.

However, ITV's Cilla lost out to Downton in the Drama category, as did Doctor Who and Sherlock.

Sheridan Smith has said that she started crying in traffic after realising she missed her Nta win on Wednesday night (January 21).

The actress, who won Best Drama Performance for Cilla, was late to the ceremony due to being stuck in a cab and missed her name being read out as the winner.

Speaking to reporters including Digital Spy backstage, Smith said: "Do you know what, I couldn't believe I won when I was in the car.

"I'd been filming since 5 this morning so they would let me go early, and they let me go at four and so I got ready, got in the car, and something's happened, I think. I'm not lying.

"There's definitely something – honestly, something happened. Anyway, there's traffic everywhere. I'm not lying, I was in a cab for three hours. And then I got a phone call going, 'Where are you?' And then they said...

The 20th National Television Awards took place at London's O2 Arena this evening (January 21), with David Tennant, I'm a Celebrity, Sheridan Smith and Ant & Dec all triumphant.

Hosted by Dermot O'Leary, the ceremony welcomed a host of stars from the small screen in celebrating the best in British television.

The cast of ITV's The Frankenstein Chronicles has been announced.

Sean Bean will star as Inspector John Marlott, who will pursue a terrifying foe through 1827 London, in what is described as a mix of the investigative and horror genres.

Joining Bean is Game of Thrones star Kate Dickie, who played Lysa Arryn on the HBO show.

The six-part period drama sees Marlott recruited by Home Secretary Robert Peel after an assembly of body parts is discovered, arranged in a bizarre attempt at a human form.

He soon finds himself tracking down a dangerous and unhinged killer.

Wall to Wall to make Woman in Red for BBC2.

The scandal surrounding 18th century aristocrat Lady Seymour Worsley is to be turned into a one-off docu-drama produced by Wall to Wall for BBC2.

Woman in Red follows Sienna Miller-fronted The Girl, which explored the relationship between Alfred Hitchcock and Tippi Hedren, and was the last large scale factual drama produced by the Warner Bros-owned indie.

The screenplay, penned by David Eldridge, tells the story of Lady Seymour Worsley, who left her husband and eloped with his best friend.

Lady Worseley, played by Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games), subsequently becomes the subject of a high-profile court case brought against her by her shamed husband, played by Cilla star Aneurin Barnard.

The 90-minute drama is based on Hallie Rubenhold’s book Lady Worsley’s Whim, originally inspired by a painting of Lady Worsley which hangs in a stately home in Yorkshire.

Cilla Black will receive the first ever Royal Television Society Legends Award.

The Blind Date host will be presented with the award to honour her 50 years in the television industry.

The award will be received during an Rts Legends Lunch: In Conversation with Cilla Black OBE event at the House of Lords on December 5.

During the afternoon hosted by Jeff Pope, who scripted and executive produced ITV drama Cilla, Black will be talking about her long career in the television business.

Earlier this year, Black received the Special Award at the BAFTAs, which also marked her 50 years in the entertainment business.

Since beginning her career, she has hosted more than 500 TV shows, and has made around 400 guest appearances on others.

Sheridan Smith played the presenter, singer and actress in the recent ITV drama series.

The National Television Awards 2015 longlist nominations have been announced and voting is now (October 14) open.

Hosted by Dermot O'Leary, the NTAs celebrate the best and most popular TV and are exclusively voted for by viewers. The 2015 awards take place at London's O2 on January 21.

ITV's three-parter Black Work has begun shooting.

The thriller follows police officer Jo Gillespie (Sheridan Smith) looking to discover who murdered her husband Ryan, an undercover cop shot dead in mysterious circumstances.

Emotionally distraught at what she unravels in her investigation, she leans on colleague DC Jack Clark (Matthew McNulty) for support.

Douglas Henshall, Geraldine James and Phil Davis also star.

Black Work is written by Our Zoo's Matt Charman and produced by Mammoth Screen.

Smith recently portrayed Cilla Black in ITV biopic Cilla.
