Every family has their stable of Christmas movies that have to be watched during the month of December. New additions like "Spirited" starring Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell attempt to find a way into that annual rotation by updating "A Christmas Carol" and other holiday mainstays, which is a mild form of cheating as far as I'm concerned. Tried and true classics like "White Christmas" and "It's a Wonderful Life" may seem a little outdated, so take no shame in updating the Christmas movie list with "Love Actually" and "Die Hard", or even scarier entries like "Rare Exports" and "Krampus."
The big question for the new holiday action comedy "Violent Night" is whether or not an R-rated, butt-kicking Santa Claus (David Harbour) will end up being worthy of a re-watch each year. In any case, director Tommy Wirkola hopes that his version of a Christmas classic can deliver some crowd-pleasing...

Just days after Michael Dougherty signed on to direct Godzilla: King of Monsters, after previously signing on to co-write the script with Zach Shields, the sequel has finaly found its first cast member. Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, who is currently filming the second season of the hit Netflix series, has signed on to star in this Godzilla sequel. This project will mark the 12-year-old actress' feature film debut, after playing the popular character Eleven on Netflix's Stranger Things.

You likely saw a lot of Stranger Things' Eleven this Halloween but get ready to see more of the real deal when the Netflix series returns for Season 2. In what shouldn't be that much of a surprise, Millie Bobby Brown is set to return to the 80s. TV Line says their sources tell them Brown, who previously starred on BBC America's Intruders, will return for the second season of the hit sci-fi, nostalgia-packed show. Producers Matt and Ross Duffer (aka The Duffer Brothers) told Entertainment Weekly previously they would be continuing the story with characters like Mike, Dustin, and Joyce but "We don’t know about Eleven. We leave that up in the air." Netflix declined to comment, most likely because they'd like to keep how Eleven will be back under wraps. When I heard the news, I wasn't shocked. Brown's Eleven was an integral part of the story,...

The young cast of Stranger Things have been a big hit both in the show and with their talents outside the Upside Down. But Millie Bobby Brown, who played Eleven on the show, made a bigger impact with her shaved head and she's just posted the video of it all going down. Brown, who I recognized from BBC America's Intruders where she played the extremely intense Madison O'Donnell, was a fantastic addition to Stranger Things. She's also one of the few young actors asked to change their look dramatically for a role. A few adult actors have gone the shaved-head route recently - remember when Karen Gillen did it to play Nebula for Guardians of the Galaxy? - but it was a bigger deal for Brown and her family. Not too long ago Variety asked the Duffer Brothers where the inspiration for Eleven's look came from. They wound up...

The kids of “Stranger Things” are, in fact, kind of strange — but in a great way. Child actors can struggle to blend their cute, normal selves with really acting when called upon, but the young ensemble of Netflix’s new hit had no such problems. And leading the way with the most challenging role of Season 1 was Millie Bobby Brown, the 12-year-old U.K. native who brought intimacy and humanity to Eleven.
Brown, who was born in Spain to British parents, made her way to the United States (by way of Florida) at age seven where she took up acting. After moving to Los Angeles and landing parts in “Intruders,” “Modern Family” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” Brown was living in England when she got the call about auditioning for “Stranger Things.”

The world of Doctor Who has changed greatly in the space of just 10 years. The cast and crew have almost completely been replaced since 2005, including a number of new actors to play the errant Time Lord and his companions.
But what has happened to the class of '05? Where are Rose and Mickey now? What is the writer of 'Dalek' up to? And where can you see more work from the director of 'Rose'?
Here it is then, your guide to the main players of Doctor Who series one.
The Cast
After his three-month on-screen stint as the Doctor, Christopher Eccleston's career continued in much the same vein, taking in theatre, interesting television roles and the odd blockbuster.
Post-2005, the Northern actor went Stateside to take on the role of invisible man Claude in the Us series Heroes. From there, he popped up in a very amusing Doctor Who-esque cameo as Dr.

As suspected, the Intruders TV show has been cancelled after one season of eight episodes. BBC America and BBC Two have decided not to order a second season.
On Intruders, a former Lapd detective (John Simm) investigates strange occurences which lead him to a secret society whose members seek immortality by taking over the bodies of others. The rest of the cast includes Mira Sorvino, Tory Kittles, James Frain, and Millie Brown.
Executive producer Glen Morgan broke the news of the cancellation on Twitter and wrote, "Well, Reverti, this life is over. Intruders will live only in 8 episodes. We can't thank those that supported us enough... #Intruders such an intelligent audience willing to be challenged and face tough questions. Hope we will all be triggered in 9 years. Intruders has been cancelled by the BBC.
Showrunner Glen Morgan confirmed that the John Simm series "will live only in eight episodes" after failing to impress the broadcaster with its performance.
The BBC America and BBC Two co-production stars Simm as Whelan, who has escaped a dark, violent past for a quiet life in the Pacific Northwest.
Morgan tweeted: "Well, Reverti, this life is over. Intruders will live only in 8 episodes. We can't thank those that supported us enough..."
Meanwhile, author Michael Marshall Smith - who wrote the book the series was adapted from - praised Morgan and his team for the 'brilliant' job they did on the series.
He wrote: "It was never a given there would be more - though we did discuss ideas for future arcs - and for a variety of reasons the first season had to out-perform the norm in order to continue. Unfortunately it did not.

Keanu Reeves’ current career reboot, kickstarted by a return-to-form turn in John Wick, looks set to continue if this week’s news is any indication. Yesterday he signed up to co-star in Nicolas Winding Refn’s female-led horror, The Neon Demon, he’s already completed work on Eli Roth’s Knock Knock, and now, he’s hitting the streets of New York for his next effort, Daughter Of God.
As the film is currently in the process of being sold at the European Film Market, a small batch of images from the project have hit the web. Reeves takes center stage in both snaps as a police detective investigating the murder of his partner.
Written and directed by Gee Malik Linton – who will make his directorial debut with the movie – the story hones in on Reeves’ Detective, Scott Galban, as he seeks out the truth during his investigation.

Newcomers Davidovich and Frain will be...

Things are getting pretty complex in the supernatural world of Intruders. Here's Gerri's review of Ave Verum Corpus...
This review contains spoilers.
1.4 Ave Verum Corpus
Last week on Intruders, Richard continued to kick ass, Jack and Amy realised that they were in desperate need of couples counselling (or in Amy’s case, a good exorcist), and Marcus continued to terrorize the Seattle suburbs as a nine year old girl. Seriously. A nine year old girl.
Episode four starts out with Marcus, asleep in the back seat of a car, dreaming of the time Maddy’s parents bought the beach house and she sat down at the piano, for the first time ever, and playing like a pro. His dreams got darker as he remembered the end of his past life, getting (what I assumed to be) buried alive. Which begs the question, exactly how long has Marcus been squatting like...

John Simm's Jack is dragged deeper into the weirdness surrounding the Intruders in this week's instalment...
Last week on Intruders, we indulged in some delicious creepy time feelings without being bludgeoned about the head and neck with intrigue. Marcus/Maddie made a run for Seattle, narrowly escaping an ass-kicking Richard. Jack gets a cabbie beaten up in pursuit of his missing wife, after which he gets a call from Amy, who is back at home. And the recently deceased conspiracy theorist pirate radio host has been replaced by the rifle-toting Tim Truth.
This week, Jack tucks his tail and (drinks and) drives back home to his wife. Or, as he is starting to realize, to the person who only appears to be his wife. When he gets to the house, Amy is pissed off and accusatory. She lashes out at Jack for potentially ruining her relationship with her boss...

1.2 And Here... You Must Listen
Previously on Intruders, we met a few odd characters, a couple of sinister ones, and were beaten over the head with exposition once or twice. Immortality: not just for vampires any more. A secret sect has discovered a way to cram their souls into the bodies of others. Very Being John Malkovich. What the series premiere seemed to imply is that the soul cramming happens every nine years, on the victim’s birthday (or maybe nine years after the last host died?). The process is facilitated by Richard and Frank Shepherd. How it is done or why certain victims are picked has not yet been revealed.
Does that make the perpetrators some kind of psychic parasites? Is the host soul killed or forced into submission? Can...

New John Simm-starring supernatural drama Intruders, now showing in the UK, gets off to a bumpy but promising start...
Intruders, created by Glen Morgan of X-Files fame (a man who knows his creeping dread), is based on the 2007 Michael Marshall Smith novel. Like Morgan, Smith is not a newcomer to the sci/fi thriller genre. Winner of the Philip K. Dick award, he is a prolific author who has been compared to both Dick and Stephen King.
Such recommendations can have polarizing effects. On one hand these are writers who have made their money churning out commercial paperbacks. On the other hand they have written consistently engaging work for decades.
What does this mean for viewers? That the series is based on a novel by an author with a proven record of success and that it was adapted by a showrunner with a proven record of success in the genre.

A co-production with BBC Two, the paranormal thriller stars John Simm as a former La cop drawn into danger when his wife Amy goes missing.

The interesting thing, so far, about Intruders — the BBC America drama about body-hopping immortals and the people caught in their path airs its sixth episode tonight at 10 p.m. — is that it invites more questions than it answers. James Frain, the actor who plays the mysterious enforcer Shepherd, knows that the tantalizing plotlines are unfurling slowly, but that doesn’t mean he was up for revealing anything to Vulture in a recent interview. (He did, however, invite us to come up with our own answers and make it seem as if he’d said them himself. “Just give me a couple of your juiciest quotes,” he joked.) The True Blood alum chatted with us about his character’s crisis of conscience, not understanding the show’s The X-Files references, and how he knew his co-star Mira Sorvino in a past life. Do you think there’s any connection between Franklin...

Robert Forster knows a thing or two about reincarnation. The 73-year-old character actor has reinvented himself more than once, most notably with his Oscar-nominated 1997 role as bail bondsman Max Cherry in Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown. Now he’s occupying a new body, as the shadowy hit man Frank Shepherd on the life-after-death sci-fi mystery Intruders, which BBC America is showcasing tomorrow from 4 to 8 p.m. with a marathon of the show’s first four episodes, leading up to the new episode featuring Forster at 10 p.m. “When I was 9 or 10 years old, I was sure reincarnation was how life progressed,” Forster says. “Why waste a whole life on one person if you don’t get another one? I haven’t been at all sure about the subject matter since.” Forster is sure about a few other things, however, like the fact that his legendary Breaking Bad character, the Disappearer,...

"Ave Verum Corpus," the title of "Intruders" Ep. 1.04, is also the title of a hymn by Mozart meaning "Hail, True Body," a reference of course to Jesus but certainly applicable to the events transpiring on the show. Here's a preview plus an inside look at last night's "Time Has Come Today."
"Intruders," from writer/exec producer Glen Morgan, is based on Michael Marshall Smith's novel The Intruders. The series stars John Simm and Mira Sorvino with James Frain, Tory Kittles, and Millie Brown.
The creative team includes directors Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Stamm plus production designer Mark Freeborn. The series is executive produced by Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner for BBC Worldwide Productions, Morgan, and Rose Lam.

Three episodes into BBC America’s Intruders and one aspect of the show’s motives has become clear. The almost painfully slow pace it opened with looks set to continue throughout the remainder of its short eight episode run. If the trailers had been accurate representations of what to expect, they might have emulated say, Kubrick’s teasers for Eyes Wide Shut; a long, uninterrupted shot of something innocuous. Perhaps the dual-persona Madison’s transformative facial expressions twisting from gnarled derision into the gleeful grin of a child. Anything to hint at the true nature of the show.
Last week left off with Madison-Marcus catching a ride with a stranger up to Seattle. This week’s episode opens back in the car with Madison and Karen, the good samaritan taking a chance on a needy kid. There’s some interesting writing choices leveraged into their interactions. If you’re to...

A missing wife (Mira Sorvino), an assassin (James Frain) covering his crimes and a child (Millie Brown) on the run are all seemingly unrelated, but will intertwine to reveal a conspiracy that will lead former Lapd cop Jack Whelan (John Simm) to question everything. Last week’s premiere of Intruders didn’t grab viewers with stereotypical ‘scary’ gimmicks. It snuck in suggestive glimpses at the bizarre goings-on in a series of seemingly unconnected stories. Nine-year-old Madison’s outbreaks in particular held the most intrigue. By the episode’s end there were no resolutions for the mounting mysteries – only questions. Taking this less-is-more approach meant the running the risk of alienating the audience. So, does episode two answer them?
The slow-build mechanics of the show mean that no, it doesn’t. Last week ended with Madison, the precocious split-persona kid, packing her bags, leaving her mom and hitting the road. A sudden change spurred on by the incident in the bathroom. You know, the one when she lapsed into a hideous moment of violence (cat drowning!) It seems her brief altercation with the mysterious hitman awoke within her the spirit of a man called Marcus.

Intruders marks BBC America’s arrival into the current climate of moody spook dramas. Produced by The X-Files’ Glen Morgan, this mystical serial impresses from the jarring opening of its first episode. Why? Because it takes risks. If you’ve managed to avoid spoilers prior to watching the premiere, you may be inclined to agree that the show’s premise, even at the end of the episode… isn’t exactly clear. Therein lies the appeal and the mystery of Intruders. It gambles with expectations.
Dark and brooding from the outset, the show opens on an domestic incident that’s never fully explained, before jumping to a double homicide in suburban Seattle. It cuts to a married couple with a stilted relationship. Next up, there’s a nine-year-old girl troubled by visions. Then we see a bearded nerd delivering his conspiracy podcast out of a van. "In the beginning, there was death." This is the mantra of BBC America's new series Intruders, and the show makes good on that promise from the outset. The body-snatching drama based on British novelist Michael Marshall Smith’s work spans multiple genres, from the ever-popular police procedural, to the vogue of supernatural deaths and rebirths, with elements of classic crowd-pleasers like secret societies, conspiracies, and yes, even creepy children. While Intruders is sure to draw comparisons to The X-Files (which makes sense considering that the hit show's producer Glen Morgan is both writer and executive producer of the new series), it's much less episodic in nature and skews more toward the cult series Twin Peaks than anything else, thanks in part to its Pacific Northwest setting and layered mystery spiraling around its central plot. Hit the jump for my Intruders review, and for why you should welcome this show...

Even before seeing a frame of Intruders, all the ideas sounded good. For starters, you have writer and creator Glen Morgan (The X-Files) getting to make a real X-Files-style show. That’s a good thing. And, since so many actors seem to be British these days, it seemed extra clever that this BBC America series, which takes place in the Pacific Northwest, chose to use a bunch of British actors but have them play Americans. Everybody gets it. So let’s play. And after having watched the first two hours of the eight-part limited series directed by Eduardo

When one character meets a conspiracy theorist in Intruders, a new series debuting August 23 on BBC America, he looks at the wall and expresses disappointment: “What? No ‘I Want to Believe’ poster?” This was a wink to the X-Files roots of showrunner Glen Morgan, who adapted the program from the 2007 novel Intruders by British writer Michael Marshall Smith. “Well, for all of us, it’s kind of the elephant in the room,” laughed Morgan, in a recent interview with Vulture. The series slowly unravels a mystery involving a crew of immortal body-snatchers who can hop into the bodies of mere mortals and make their “hosts” seem a little out of sorts to their friends and family members. It’s an intriguing premise, and takes more than a few episodes to make sense, but like any great installment of The X-Files, not knowing exactly what’s going on is half the fun.

It’s not every day that someone just casually bumps into an Oscar-winning actress in an elevator. Well, maybe not casually. More like energetically forced, but still. Mira Sorvino!
How could I not freak out? Thank God Mira was as graceful and patient as ever. She had no problem answering my questions about her new BBC America show, Intruders. She warned me all about the series’ crazy twists and turns, and how, in the show, people can seek refuge in other people’s brains. Eek! It sounds crazy, but sign me up for a season pass.
Now, I couldn’t call myself a true Mira Sorvino fan if I didn’t talk to her about her iconic role in my favorite movie of all time, Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion. And praises be, she was all about it! We even did the prom dance together.
