Niggies (episode 1) punches hard. It beautifully paints a picture of families in a small town in the Freestate, South Africa, unaware that tragedy is about to hit.
The acting is brilliant and believable, especially Tinarie van Wyk-Loots and Janru Steenkamp in this first episode.
The scenes added to create a feeling of unease works well and the music constantly drives tension higher.
The conclusion of the first episode, although expected, is hard to watch but is necessary to make the viewer feel anxious and realise that this series won't be an easy one to watch.
My mom was friends with the cousins and saw them on their way to the swimming pool that day. She couldn't go herself. I recall her talking about this often and she created a book filled with photos and newspaper clippings.
I think she would have loved to watch this, but I'm not sure she would have been able to handle it well. It haunted her her whole life.
I'm looking forward to the rest of and how the cast and creative team brings the story to life. It deserves to be told.
