The Night Agent continued its run as the top streaming series in the United States in early February.

The Netflix spy drama captured 1.52 billion minutes of viewing time for the week of Feb. 3-9, the show’s third straight week in the top overall spot. Though it fell off by about 48 percent from the previous week, The Night Agent’s viewing total was still well ahead of the second-place show, Netflix’s Sweet Magnolias (1.07 billion minutes).

On the week of the Super Bowl — which recorded a record audience on Feb. 9 — overall streaming volume was down some, at least among the top shows. The 10 titles in the week’s overall Nielsen rankings combined for 9.27 billion minutes of viewing, down from 10.87 billion a week earlier (a decline of about 15 percent).

Netflix’s The Night Agent topped Nielsen’s weekly U.S. ranking of streaming originals for a third straight week, yada yada yada…. But the other headline involved tried-and-true NCIS, which made its 201st appearance on Nielsen’s Top 10 overall ranking, which included acquired series and movies.

Older NCIS seasons stream on Netflix, about half of them can be found on Hulu, and all 22 seasons live on Paramount+. Nielsen notes that NCIS‘ 201 appearances add up 137.3 billion minutes, or more than 261,000 years, of viewing. In 2024 alone, the royal we streamed nearly 36 billion minutes — or by my math, more than 75,000 years.

Netflix’s hit series The Night Agent remains at the top of the Nielsen streaming charts for the second week in a row. The show had 2.92 billion minutes of viewing from January 27 to February 2, 2025. This is only a small drop of 6% from its debut week.

Apple TV+’s Severance is also doing well. The series ranked fourth among original streaming shows with 557 million minutes of viewing. While this is slightly lower than its first two weeks (589 million and 622 million minutes), Severance is now Apple TV+’s most-watched show since Ted Lasso in 2023.

Another Netflix spy drama, The Recruit, had a strong week too. Its second season premiere brought in 1.19 billion minutes of viewing, up from 925 million for its first season debut in 2022.

Netflix’s documentary series American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson had 723 million minutes of viewing. Hulu’s drama Paradise also made the top 10 with 550 million minutes.

Season two of Severance is shaping up as one of Apple TV+’s most watched series to date.

The series ranked fourth among original streaming shows for the week of Jan. 27-Feb. 2, according to Nielsen, with 557 million minutes of viewing. Floyd Russ, the director of the new O.J. Simpson Netflix docuseries, American Manhunt: Oj Simpson, has revealed that he uncovered incriminating evidence that was not presented at Simpson’s murder trial.

Simpson was acquitted of the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.

The docuseries director also told The New York Post that for “almost everybody that [the crew] interviewed, the word ‘regret’ is something that you could talk about for hours.”

“Just looking at the world and what’s happened in the last six to seven years – things like the MeToo movement, Black Lives Matter and the surge of true crime – we think of O.J. as the most epic, iconic, crazy, disastrous, true crime story ever,” he declared. It has themes of domestic violence, themes of race, themes of [police] versus prosecution versus defense, and who controls the narrative. Those are topics that I think people are talking about.

While two of its most recent action-packed original series continued to thrive, the latest season of the fan-favorite romantic drama series returned from its two-year hiatus with less than stellar numbers.

In its first three days of release during the week of Feb. 3-Feb. 9, Sweet Magnolias season 4 (which premiered on Feb. 6) brought in 4 million views globally, which translates to 33.7 million hours viewed. It was followed on the streamer’s list of the top 10 English-language movies of the week by “Back in Action,” charting for the fourth week in a row with 9.2 million views. But the No. 2 most-watched title overall was on the non-English-language movies chart: Korean Thriller “Bogotá: City of the Lost” debuted with 13 million views in its first six days on Netflix. “Lucca’s World” came behind it with 9.4 million views in its second week on the chart.

“The Recruit” returned to the Netflix Top 10 in second place, with Season 2 achieving 5.9 million views in its first four days on Netflix. On the English-language TV chart, it came behind only “The Night Agent” Season 2, which hit 15.2 million views in its second week on top. In this trailer, a Netflix subscriber finds herself taking a journey through some of the many TV shows coming to the streamer this year, including Squid Game season 3, Wednesday season 2, the Cobra Kai finale, The Witcher season 4, and Stranger Things season 5. Don’t expect to see much in the way of show footage in the trailer; this is just about the subscriber’s adventure. Netflix had the actress who stars in the ad do a lot of stuff for this 3 minute promo, but unfortunately they didn’t reveal her name, so I can’t credit her for her work.

Netflix has quite a large slate of new and returning series coming in 2025. The slate was previewed Wednesday at the streamer’s annual Next on Netflix event in Los Angeles, which was also streamed across the globe.

Some of the most anticipated projects include Stranger Things 5 and Wednesday Season 2, neither of which have premiere dates just yet. So far, Netflix has revealed a huge slate for February, as well as a smattering of series that are expected through August, but a large portion of the series the streamer says we’ll see this year haven’t been confirmed for a specific date yet.

Of the dates that were revealed, perhaps the biggest surprise is that the third and final season of Squid Game is coming sooner than audiences might have anticipated, premiering on June 27. June will also bring another season of Ginny & Georgia.

It’s been 30 years since the “trial of the century,” but time doesn’t seem to matter when it comes to this double homicide case. The rise and fall of Simpson, a former football star accused of killing Brown and Goldman, is a story that continues to fascinate viewers. Simpson died at age 76 last April.

In the American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson docuseries, a number of people involved in and affected by the infamous murder trial gave new interviews to director Floyd Russ.

Russ explains that these fresh and frank discussions were crucial in looking at the case anew. “The key was to make sure that both sides were balanced,” he says, “to make clear that this isn’t just a true crime cop documentary. It’s been over 30 years since O.J. Simpson was acquitted on murder charges in connection with the deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.

But interest in the trial of the century remains high, even after Simpson’s death last year at the age of 76.

Now, a new Netflix documentary titled American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson is shedding new light on the trial and its highly controversial verdict.

Simpson murder trial continues to be an area of fascination over 30 years since the former football star was acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and aspiring actor Ron Goldman. In a new Netflix docuseries, American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson, premiering today, Wednesday, January 29, potential witnesses who claim to have seen Simpson on the night of the murders but were never called to testify in court speak out about what they saw. “The audience gets to listen to witnesses who were not called and consider evidence,” Floyd Russ, the doc’s director, told People. “I want them to feel like the jury.” People also spoke to two potential witnesses, including Jill Shively, who says she drove to the Westward Ho Market in Brentwood, California, just before 11 pm on the night of the murders. On her way there, she said she nearly struck a white Bronco with no headlights on.

Netflix offers another true crime series where the filmmakers put the media on trial. The most current example is American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson, a series that, by the third episode, points fingers at the salacious nature of the case, which was perfect for the dawn of putting a trial on television.

However, the series offers eye-opening, fair treatment from both sides of the aisle. It correctly shows that putting the trial on television affected both sides. From the prosecutors to the defense attorneys, from the judge to the jury, everyone thought and acted differently because of it.

That makes American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson so compelling, gripping, and, at times, jaw-dropping. This behind-the-scenes true crime docuseries, the first original from Netflix on the case, pulls back the curtain on the maneuvering and explains why the infamous Hall of Fame football player was charged but never convicted.
