Old secrets revealed

Dutch Menno Meyjes' third directorial attempt De Held (The Hero) manges to keep interest. We understand quickly there's hidden secrets in a Jewish family.

Meyjes has made an apadtion of the eponymous novel by Dutch writer Jessica Durlacher, based on her own family story.

We are introduced to a family through a party, with an old patriarch with an obviously dark secret from his past. And now that past i coming back to haunt him and his family.

When he dies, secrets are revealed, and much of what the patriarch told is not adding up.

The problem from there, which is a great plit, is that the excitement isn't going anywhere. It's s too inept attempt of a trailer, even if the actors are doing their best.

The film comes out mediocre.

Third time's the charm

The past is here ...

... to collect? Well it does do something for sure - so no pun intended. The director has done other thrillers before that, so he is quite proficient in the genre apparently. But none seem to have left much of a dent. That said, if they are similar to this one, I wouldn't call those movies bad by any stretch of the imagination or the word for that matter.

We have a father that seems to have quite a few secrets ... and we get to witness some of them. The main character has gone through a lot and she still will have to endure stuff - if that makes anyone a hero ... well you be the judge of that. Decent movie for sure - and a lot of twists to keep you guessing and entertained until the end.
