The following contains major spoilers for Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 9, "A Favor," which debuted Wednesday, Jan. 8 on NBC.
Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 9, "A Favor" is pretty low-key by the standards of the NBC show. It has an action-packed storyline featuring Joe Cruz, but compared to the utter chaos that's happened in other Chicago Fire episodes -- particularly premieres, midseason premieres and finales -- it's almost calm. In some ways that works really well, and in other ways, the audience might be a little restless.
"A Favor" primarily centers on Cruz, who has to deal with Junior's threat to end his career over a tragic event in the show's early years. The other storyline concerns Mouch's first shift as a lieutenant, and the way he tries to turn up for a man no one else seems to remember. Almost all the remaining characters have little to do, but that's less noticeable...

With the UK streaming release of South of Hope Street this week, writer/director Jane Spencer talks about exploring ‘the big questions’, working with Michael Madsen, black shoes and shunning the Hollywood system.
Your latest film, the visually arresting dystopian drama South of Hope Street, depicts an oppressed society surrounded by wars. As Writer. Director what inspired you to make it?
I have always been very much interested in ‘the Big Questions’: Why do we exist? What, exactly, Are we? Why are we here? A great way to pose these questions is to place us against the forces that do not allow free thought, and to think about these questions.
I wanted t to explore this in an allegory, a sci-film film, with all the characters representing forces in our world: forces of repression, forces of peace, mystery, poetry. Films like this are films that are inspiring to me,...

Daddy Issues, the BBC sitcom written by Danielle Ward and starring David Morrissey and Aimee Lou Wood, has been renewed for a second series.
Sex Education is one of those shows where you could legitimately call every main actor a breakout star. Asa Butterfield continues to star in a wide variety of films, Ncuti Gatwa is the Fifteenth Doctor, and Emma Mackey and Connor Swindells snagged roles in Barbie.
Aimee Lou Wood is no exception. She was recently seen in the terrific Living, opposite Bill Nighy, and British comedy Seize Them!
She recently headined BBC sitcom Daddy Issues opposite David Morrissey, which has now been renewed for a second series.
The synopsis reads as follows:
When hedonistic 24 year old Gemma (Aimee Lou Wood) discovers she’s pregnant after a random hook-up, she has no choice but to turn to her hapless father Malcolm (David Morrissey) for support. Recently divorced from...

Back in 1997, Beyoncé stepped into the recording booth to croon the lyrics to “Sail On,” the Commodores single that Destiny’s Child covered on their eponymous debut album. Her thick Southern twang still coated her singing voice — she was only 15 — as she lamented the end of a relationship in a song penned by Lionel Richie nearly two decades prior. The song was an outlier on Destiny’s Child, buried deep on the track list, and applied the group’s R&b methodology to the Commodores’ country-influenced original.

Another week, another “Saturday Night Live” hosting debut in the books. This week’s “SNL” saw Academy Award winner Rami Malek step into the hosting role for the first time ever to promote the latest James Bond film, “No Time to Die.”
Following both Owen Wilson and Kim Kardashian West’s solid entries into the “SNL” first-timer’s club, Malek came into Studio 8H with a tone set for this current season.
Host: Rami Malek
Rami Malek’s monologue took somewhat of a page out of the Peter Sarsgaard book of “SNL” hosting, focusing on his reputation as an intense actor. As Malek said himself, he has “resting villain face.”
Once again, the monologue really set a comforting tone for the rest of the episode, as this season so far has done so much to play to the strengths of its hosts from week to week. Malek’s strange charm...

“Minyan,” an acclaimed tale of sexual and spiritual identity directed by Eric Steel, has sold to Strand Releasing in North America.
The film, starring stage breakout Samuel H. Levine of Broadway and the West End’s “The Inheritance,” played in the official selection at last year’s Berlin International Film Festival and went on to win Outfest’s grand jury prize for U.S. narrative feature.

Whether you enjoy his work or not, there’s no denying that Adam Sandler has an impressively large collection of films under his belt. Though most of them are mediocre efforts that see him phoning it in and rarely stepping out of his comfort zone, that hasn’t stopped the actor from becoming one of comedy’s most recognizable and successful talents.
And though you can always count on Sandler to draw in a big crowd at the theater, Netflix is another place where he’s proven to be a hot property as well, with the Hollywood star having established a long, fruitful partnership with the streaming giant that has resulted in a string of films that consistently get torn apart by critics, but always go over well with subscribers.
The latest example of this is Hubie Halloween, his new holiday-themed flick which debuted yesterday and quickly took the #1 spot on the most-watched movies chart.

Jewel has shared a previously unreleased demo of her 1996 hit “You Were Meant for Me,” set to appear on the 25th-anniversary edition of Pieces of You, out November 20th.
The demo (understandably) boasts a much rawer feel than the final product, with the woodwinds and soft drums stripped away to leave just Jewel’s voice and guitar. Joining Jewel on the demo is co-writer Steve Poltz, who provides a bit of back-up as they sing, “Dreams last so long, even after you’re gone/And I know that you love...

In 2019, Jimmy Cliff said he considered Frederick “Toots” Hibbert and the Maytals’ 1962 album Never Grow Old the birth of the reggae genre. The two singers often pushed each other artistically through friendly competition, with Cliff also recruiting Toots and the Maytals to appear in The Harder They Come. Following the death of his longtime friend and tourmate “Toots,” fellow reggae legend Jimmy Cliff spoke to Rolling Stone Saturday about the Maytals’ singer.

Roddy Bottum — the veteran Faith No More keyboardist who has also played with Nastie Band, Imperial Teen, and Crickets — is no stranger to pushing boundaries. He came out publicly in the early Nineties when that sort of brazen honesty could lose friends and any chance of being in a hard rock band. “It felt dangerous then,” he told Out magazine in 2012. “I got a lot of warnings. At the same time, it was exciting to be amid people asking, ‘Are you sure you want to do this? You might lose fans.

Coldplay update George Orwell’s Animal Farm in the video for “Trouble in Town,” off their double LP Everyday Life, released last fall.
The band brings the satirical classic to the drug-addled streets of New York, where the city is plagued with homelessness and crime under the regime of a pig dictator (undoubtedly a nod to Trump). The 2020 Democratic debates are mocked as pig politicians argue at podiums on a television screen, which soon escalates into a fight.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (Marielle Heller)
It sounds almost too perfect: Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers, the beloved children’s entertainer. Of course, who else could it be, really? It is so seemingly predestined, in fact, that Hanks’s first onscreen appearance as Fred Rogers elicits knowing laughter from the audience. Yes, Tom Hanks playing Mr. Rogers looks and sounds exactly how you would imagine. Marielle Heller’s A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, however, is much more than an obvious biopic. It’s not really a biopic at all. Nor is it a rehash of 2018’s much-heralded documentary profile of Fred Rogers, Won’t You Be MyNeighbor?...

The passing of a parent is life-changing for anyone, under any circumstances. But for a filmmaker, the epiphany that life is short, which often results from that harrowing and devastating journey, can ultimately be used for another transformative experience: making a cathartic, therapeutic movie. That’s certainly what acclaimed producer, Ant Timpson did with his feature […]

The PornHub closed captioning lawsuit has gotten a response from the website itself, commenting on the active lawsuit that they allegedly violated the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act. Earlier this week, it was revealed that a deaf man was suing the popular adult site for not including closed captioning services.
PornHub offers all types of services, but Yaroslav Suris says he can't enjoy his pornography without subtitles explaining the plot to him. The site, which is also a popular hub for looking up superheroes, has decided to respond to Suris' accusations.
PornHub has been in the news quite a bit over the past several months. They made headlines recently when they added an image of shirtless Eternals actor Kumail Nanjiani. He's now the model for their Muscular Men category. However, the latest lawsuit almost seems like something ripped from an Onion headline. PornHub's Vice President Corey Price had this to say in response to the lawsuit.

PornHub superhero searches may have been quite popular in 2019. But one man isn't buying into the hype, and is instead suing the adult site for not providing closed captioning on their videos. Pornhub, which hosts millions of adult videos, offers all kinds of upgrades to enhance the video watching experience. There's videos streaming in crisp HD quality, playlists, full screen modes, download options, and a ton of other features for the person looking for a good time. However, the site is making it harder for the deaf community to enjoy.
Yaroslav Suris is suing the PornHub video sharing website, claiming "it's denied the deaf and hearing-impaired access to its videos that others can easily enjoy." According to court documents, "Suris says a lack of closed captioning violates their rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act."
While many are probably wondering why you would really need closed captioning for pornography, there...

During the late Eighties and early Nineties, Oakland A’s sluggers Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco shot a bunch of steroids and crushed a ton of homers and dubbed themselves the Bash Brothers as they embodied a new kind of mullet-bro excess in sports. The duo would go on to break sacred records (McGwire), date Madonna (Canseco) and generally play a huge role in signaling an unfortunate transition from baseball’s coked-up, free-wheeling New-York-Mets-trashing-a-plane era to the dark dawn of A Rod. And if you were a certain kind of...

Though it never charted above No. 72, Korn’s self-titled 1994 debut has had unparalleled influence over the last two decades of American heavy music: the rise of nu-metal’s whomping pain-stomp, the road to platinum genre-smashers like Linkin Park and Slipknot, the popularity of the 7-string guitar, the emergence of superstar producer Ross Robinson and his method-acting-style techniques and even the mosh-centric rhythms of stadium dubstep artists like avowed Korn fan Skrillex.

Buried within Sunday’s crazypants Revenge finale was a glorious Easter egg for devoted TV watchers: a newscast delivered by none other than Perd Hapley, a.k.a. Pawnee, Indiana’s most beloved TV personality.
Well, sort of. Perd, of course, isn’t real — he’s played by Jay Jackson, who’s delivered fictional news reports on series including Scandal, Dexter, The Mentalist, The Closer, and Body of Proof, not to mention movies like Battleship and Fast Five. Look at Jackson’s IMDb page, in fact, and you’ll find that he’s played a reporter nearly every single time he’s appeared onscreen.
